Guest lvdkeyes Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 What was going on today that the traffic was so horrendous? We went to Central Festival to see a movie via Carrefour. After the movie we went to Friendship than back home to Jomtien. The traffic was nuts going and coming home. Quote

After the movie we went to Friendship than back home to Jomtien. The traffic was nuts going and coming home. The traffic in Pattaya is getting worse and worse. It's not only today it's everyday. Last saturday at midday I went from Bangkok to Pattaya with a friend. Bangkok (Rama 4) to Pattaya Sukhumvit Road by the turning off to North Pattaya Road took 1 hour and 10 minutes. From there to the South Pattaya Road turn off down to Second Road took another 55 minutes !!! The traffic along Sukhumvit Road, South Pattaya Road and Second Road has been awful for most of this year and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. We used to complain about the traffic problems in Bangkok. These days it's nothing compared to the snarl-ups in Pattaya. Quote
Gaybutton Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 The only thing that makes any sense to me is the traffic problems today were due to yesterday's holiday. Maybe some sort of festivities that none of us knew about were also going on. I got caught in it today too, even on "The Dark Side." It was nearly 9:00pm by the time things got back to normal. Quote

Yes, for sure it was the Rama V holiday on Friday in Bangkok that caused the above normal exodus to Pattaya and Hua Hin. Bangkok was like a ghost town on Friday...well, the underground at rush hour still had seats available. Quote
Guest mauRICE Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 And let's not get started on the air traffic - all those flying farang crowding Pattaya's friendly skies... Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 I too was caught in slow moving 2nd Road traffic. Thought maybe everyone came for high season all at once, thanks for the explanation. Quote
Guest joseph44 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 exodus to Pattaya and Hua Hin. and since there was the Summit in Hua Hin, a lot of Bangkokians choose to take the 7 to Pattaya instead of the 4 to the other side. Traffic is like crazy from Thursday on. Quote
Gaybutton Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Part of the problem was Sukhumvit Highway. Heading south, the turn to Central Road (Pattaya Klang) was blocked off by the police, so most people trying to get into town were all using the turn at Pattaya Tai. There are two turning lanes there, but you know how the Thais drive. They created their own third and fourth turning lanes, which resulted in two of the through-traffic lanes being completely blocked off. That had traffic backed up all from Pattaya Tai to North road (Pattaya Nua). Of course, no police were anywhere to be seen, so no one was out there doing anything about the chaos. What normally is a ten minute drive for me took more than thirty minutes. Quote
