True Visions

i can't resist. I have to share this. I subscribed to True Visions (UBC) back at the beginning of September and finally received my first bill. Of course it was all written in Thai and I could not figure out what any of the numbers referred to. The frustration began when I called True Visions for an explanation and received a recorded message that for English I was to press 9. Dutifully doing so, I next heard a voice menu all in Thai and NO English. I waited in hopes of someone else picking up to no avail. I called back, repeated pressing 9 and got the same recording. I finally called back and pressed any number at random and asked the lady who answered to transfer me to someone who could speak English. Surprise, surprise she did so.

But now the fun began. The kind lady, struggling with English, directed me to remove my key card from my receiver and tell her the number printed on it. She didn't want my account number, but the keycard number. Luckily I was home. I politely told her I could make no sense of the bill. None of the 13 numbers on the first bill(I received two different bills) corresponded to anything I was expecting. She politely told me that the reason was that the bill had not been updated. Of course it was for 2000+ baht more than I owed, but she just insisted the discrepancy was due to it not being "updated". The second bill was for October and half the sum of the first bill. That charge, too, was a mystery number. The kind lady told me to go to 7/11 and pay still a third amount (a fee reflecting what I thought I owed). She assured me this would bring me up to date and settle my account with True Visions through October. The eventual total was two thirds of the bills I was sent and corresponded to no number on any of the bills.

Just be warned. Scrutinize your bills from True Visions. I have yet to understand what any of the numbers mean, but will be satisfied with the kind lady's directions.

I have my October right here in front of me. It is all in English and easy to understand. I wonder why yours is in Thai.

I wonder why yours is in Thai.

Does that depend upon whether a farang or a Thai actually opened the account? RichLB, did you or your boyfriend open your account? If your boyfriend is actually the person who opened the account, then I can understand why the bill would come in Thai.

If you opened the account yourself, then based on what lvdkeyes is saying, I would go right back to the office, tell them that you have a farang friend who receives his bill in English, and you want them to arrange that your bills arrive in English from now on. Of course, that will probably require 176 visits to their office before they actually change anything, if you're lucky enough that anything will ever change at all . . .

I had opened the account in my own name, but in defense of True Visions, the kind lady on the phone did ask me if I would like future bills to be in English and promised to change the language the next time.

Did she tell you why your bill was in Thai even though you opened the account yourself?

No she didn't and I didn't ask. even though she was struggling with her English, she was very patient and tried as best she could to explain why the bill had no relationship to my charges. I still have no clue what she was talking about (why would updating result in a lower figure and why did I get two unrelated bills?). Anyway, I'm waiting for the next bill to see if the problems are resolved.

May I suggest you go to www.truevisionstv.com and register for on-line services. The web page has English and used to show billing details/history in English.

My bill has always been all Thai but it is paid by direct debit so no problem to figure out the due dates.

I had previously registered for on-line services. But as it was several years ago, the user account has expired and when I tried to re-register using a new user name, it said my house number was incorrect...so I gave up...but if you have never registered before, it may work.
