Well, what can i say.........there was a time when Chiang Mai was dying a slow death on the gay scene..

I remember my first visit there aound 2001 where it was very gayfriendly with ADAMS APPLE,and their jerk off shows, and a few other go go whose drink prices were all under 100b and a boy off fee was 150b.

There was even a alley of gay bars called the night bazaar.

On my last visit to Chiang Mai,july 2007,it had all changed and gone downhill fast.

No more was the ADAMS APPLE,a few go go bars i went to all/most had drink prices from 180b upwards, the go go dancers were mostly fully clothed and not my type.

Even only 1 bar in the night bazaar remained open, but no boys there.

The gay scene back in 2007 was finished as far as i was concerned and it would be my last visit to CM.

But no lo and behold i have come across a re emergence with a new gay hotel just opened and a large boy masseur base.

yOU COUld spent your entire holiday in this hotel and not have to leave it once.

anyone been to this place yet?

This looks like a very nice place with reasonable rate.

One swallow does not make a summer - or whatever the phrase is. I have been in Chiang Mai 3 times this year and it really was virtually dead, apart from the mushrooming number of saunas. All the former gogo bars seem to be host bars now. The Peak bars are dying off and those behind the excellent D2 hotel seem to have quite a bit of trade. Adam's Apple has been resurrected with a nice cocktail bar on the ground floor. The upper floor had not been finished when I was last there and so I do not know if the old Adam's Apple will reappear.

Certainly, Chiang Mai is no Pattaya - yet!

According to reports on the other message boards Adams Apple is now reopened and apparently quite nice.

I don't expect Chiang Mai would ever be allowed to become another Pattaya. Too many conservatives there I would imagine. And there's no beach. :)

Do you happen to know more detail about its latest incarnation? It used to be quite a fun, tho' sleazy, go-go bar. The downstairs has been converted into a rather pleasant looking cocktail bar, but it would be nice if Chiang Mai had at last on go-go bar again.

In my earlier post, I mentioned a proliferation of saunas. Sorry - I meant massage places.

I'm answering my own question, having checked on thaivisa.com. From the rather heated correspondence which has now been closed by the moderator, the New Adam's Apple seems to be quite unlike the old one. Call that naughty, sleazy or whatever, but the bar certainly seems to have been 'cleaned up' in more ways than one. I find that a real shame as I always felt the old Adam's Apple was fun and entertaining. Others will no doubt disagree.

The following is an abridged version of 2 posts on Baht-Stop today.

I'll keep this brief as I'm not one to wax lyrical over brothels and go-go bars. I was in Chiang Mai last week for a whirlwind visit. Dropped by ADAM’S APPLE which had been opened for three weeks or so and the new Power Boys which is part of the Lavender Lanna complex which had opened on Oct 5.

Adam's is still at its old venue but completely remodelled and refurbished. All hi-tech and flash. At least twice the size of the old Adam's. New sturdy stairway leading to the bar on the second floor. Fairly big stage and a runway that leads to a go-go podium in the middle of the bar. Sofa seating as well as stools at the bar counter and around the go-go podium. Service was prompt but I noticed they hired the mamasan from Circle Pub who is not very popular with the boys in the biz. I know he put off a lot of farang customers at Circle with his hot-and-cold routine and by showing a clear preference for wealthy Thai johns.

Show was a combination of lady-boy acts and awkward attempts at go-go/erotic dancing and j/o simulation. There was full frontal nudity but I don't know if they had a f--k show as I didn't stay for the entire show. Boys looked bored and uninterested; none bothered to make eye contact. Mostly Tai-Yai and chao kao (hill tribe). I'd say most of them were straight, skinny to athletic build, on the shorter side and ordinary-looking, at best. Surprisingly pretty lady-boys though. A 200Bt cover charge gets you one drink.

POWER BOYS is located in the basement of the Lavendar Lanna Hotel, formerly the Sri Tokyo. Big, modern bar with plush, tiered seating and a huge stage. I arrived after the last show, so can't comment on that. Many boys, ranging from scrawny to athletic and again on the shorter side. I reckon most were straight although there were a couple of obviously gay ones. Better looking than the ones at Adam's IMO but none that would win a handsome boy contest bar one who had defined southern-like features and an amazingly ripped body. I didn't ask the mamasan where he was from but they did have boys from other regions of Thailand, not just Tai-Yai and hill tribe. Mamasan approached me a couple of times to ask whether I needed any help. Good selection of drinks

I, for one, certainly mourn the passing of the old Adam's Apple.

When they bring back the Boy Scout j/o act, I'll know Adam's Apple is alive

I went to Adam's Apple with the bf and another friend the other night.

Regarding the premises, all jazzed up and brand new. Metro Bar is on the first floor,

bathroom is on the second floor, and the showbar is on the third. Still somewhat of a narrow stairway to the showbar but it's a new and a hell of a lot nicer than what it used to be. In any event, nobody likely will complain about the premises.

We stayed for the show and it was okay. Last time I went there was in 2005, about 3 months before it closed. I've seen all the old acts including the boyscout routine. The new show (at least the one I saw) did not include the boyscout act but, as noted above, there was a fair amount of full nudity and some mild action. The show started out with some guy using his engorged member to play a vertical piano (sort of....). I will say that they do have some rather big-dicked guys (enough to put me to shame...).

I'm not going to say anything negative about the show for the basic reason that I'm not a big fan of any of the bar shows. I go to one every 3-5 years whether I have to or not.

Thanks for the Report Bob. I guess the nude go-go dancing on the catwalk is no longer - or am I wrong?

During the show, it surely does happen. I happened to be sitting at a table right by one of the stage/catwalk extensions so the nude guys were litterally dancing - and wagging their weenies - within 3 feet of my face. I have no problem with that theoretically but personally I don't like the in-your-face stuff (so, if and when I go back to AA - which actually might be in 2 weeks if a certain buddy coming to town wants to go), I'm going to sit back against one of the walls a little farther away. Plus the front tables only have stools and my back didn't appreciate that after a while.
