Guest fountainhall Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 We've had lots of posts requesting details of budget or moderately priced condos in Pattaya and Jomtien. Anyone have any suggestions for more up-market (and obviously pricier) accommodation? I'm thinking of somewhere between 2,000 and 2,500 Bt per night. Must be bright and airy, get sunshine during the day and - most important of all - be very quiet at night. I usually stay in hotels in Pattaya because my visits are quite short, But later this year I expect to spend 2 - 3 weeks. I did see one of the View Talay villas last Christmas and liked it, but I think they are more than 2,500 Bt. Quote

It's right next to the Royal Garden shopping mall. There is actually a door connecting them. The location is good. You're within easy walking distance to the Pattayaland bars, or lady-boy go go bars such as Stringfellows, practically next door on Soi Yamato if you're into that. You're within an easy baht bus or motorcycle taxi ride to Sunee Plaza and the beach. You're also close to good restaurants. The Marriott has one of the best breakfast buffets in town. Casa Pascal is right across the street. If you want to stay at the beach area instead, then the Rabbit Resort or the Avalon Hotel would be good choices. The Avalon is only a few steps from the gay beach area. The gay beach are begins literally right out the door. The Rabbit Resort is at the end of the gay beach area, which is also right outside the door. You would simply go outside and sit in their area or walk toward the Jomtien Beach road and the next several concession areas are all gay beach. Quote
Guest Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 The current long stay rate at Marriott for over 14 days is 3900 baht and that includes breakfast and some other amenities. Having stayed there for a long time, I really like the place. The New Holiday Inn is also taking reservations and have good rates for this month and next. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Probably the cheapest high end hotel is the LK Renaisance. As far as condos, how does this one look? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions. I have stayed at the Marriott several times for short trips and like it a lot. But since I'm probably looking at November, that's high season and the nightly rate is bound to be over my 2,500 Bt limit. Have also had an enjoyable stay at The Rabbit, but a lousy one at the Avalon and vowed never to go back. I really do prefer a small apartment if there is one rather like the Marriott rooms, but that may be asking too much. Not crazy about the one in Astrrro's photo, but thanks for posting it. Quote

Since Jomtien area is good for you. I suggest www.asian-escapes.com Beautiful View Talay apartments and should be considerably under your budget and no extra charges. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 You have a good taste! I thought that maybe some guys might prefer a 500 baht condo if they thought it was a 2000 baht one. My appologies for the trickery. I think Rabbit is the nicest place on Dongtan Beach. Many of the high end condos are in inconvenient locations such as Nothpointe or Pratumak Hill. Quote

I wonder if anyone has been to the Fraser Resort? I know it's not apartments, but it looks lovely on the website and I have found one offering rooms in November almost at my upper limit. Quote
PattayaMale Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I am not sure if this is what you are looking for, but may I suggest you ask soi10tom. I am not sure if he only takes long term, but his units are really nice. Quote

Your planning to stay 21 days. So your maximum budget is approx. THB 52,500. Try to find an apartment with a month rate of approx. THB 40,000. Plenty of possibilities. View Talay 1 up to 6 is one of the examples. Quote

I live in View Talay 2 and there is a guy in my building who rents rooms for 950 baht/ night. He may give a discount for 21 days, I don't know. If you are interested PM me and i will give you his contact number. Quote

Perhaps so, but the hotels have been suffering lately and high season is not expected to be of much help this year. If you like the Marriott it's at least worth checking to see if they are offering any deals. Since you are planning a longer than average stay, they just might. Can't hurt to check. Quote

I am booked at Fraser resort for several nights in mid-November. I did a pre-paid rate that was about $2800++ for their top room, other categories were a good bit less. Looks like a nice place and pracitcally brand new. Gets pretty good reviews online. Quote

If you like the Marriott it's at least worth checking to see if they are offering any deals Many thanks - I will. Checking a lot of web-sites, the official and discounted rates for November are much higher. That made me wonder if tourism is beginning to look up. But I hope that for long stays they will make a major cut. I am booked at Fraser resort for several nights in mid-November. I did a pre-paid rate that was about $2800++ for their top room, other categories were a good bit less This is interesting. Again, I have checked the resort's own site and about a dozen others, but I can only find $2,700 for the cheapest room. This includes breakfast but not internet use, which is Bt.350 per day. I spoke to the hotel this morning and was told their cheapest rate is $2,700++ but they'll offer 15% discount for a long stay of more than 10 nights - so this is getting closer to my budget. Thanks to everyone for the other suggestions. Am checking them. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Forgot to post my comments on the Fraser Resort in Pattaya where I spent two nights a few weeks back - a sort of dummy run to see how I would enjoy it for a longer stay. Inevitably one's experience of a hotel is partly based on one's expectations. I have stayed at Fraser Apartment hotels in other cities in Asia and found them excellent. Unfortunately, the Resort in Pattaya is not in the same league. Perhaps I expected too much. The good - i. excellent location ii. nice, funky lobby with two new Apple computers for guests complimentary use. iii. comfortable bed iv. generous-sized bathroom The not-so-good – i. most of the rooms have a balcony, but get no sun as they face a wall only a few feet away ii. most rooms have neither a small desk nor a chair - only the bed and a silly sort of day-bed. The manager told me they thought this was more hip for the younger crowd. So if you want to spend time on your computer, I'm not sure where you'd do it. iii. the pool is a small lap pool on the 3rd floor and gets no sun. iv. no restaurant yet and the rather basic breakfast is catered by Delifrance. v. no vehicle access in the evenings when the area in front becomes pedestrian only. vi. I had requested a room with no connecting door. Even though very few rooms were occupied, I was given one with a connecting door! I was prepared to accept that, but since the electricity in the room did not work, they had to move me anyway. vii. the air conditioning unit is the most complex I have encountered in any hotel anywhere in the world but there is no manual to show how to operate it! The air-con cut out at 1:00am each morning, and not even the technician could work out why! Last negative. On arrival they charged my credit card for the entire stay. They did the same with a colleague who stayed around the same time. This is fair enough if you are on a pre-paid non-refundable rate. But outrageous if, like us, you are not! I am told a number of hotels in Pattaya are now doing this so be very careful at check-in. If all you want is a base close to the action and plan to spend most of your time outside, the Fraser will be fine. Inevitably some of what I encountered were teething problems which will be solved in time. Yet, my overall view is this is certainly not a 4-star hotel - nor is it a resort - as claimed by the management. It barely scrapes by with 3 in my book. Whilst acceptable at the introductory rates, thereafter it is overpriced. Frankly, I have enjoyed better stays with better amenities at lower prices at other hotels nearby. Quote
