Guest RichLB Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I've googled it, looked through stacks of old bills, but for the life of me I can't find a phone number to call UBC and subscribe. I know where their office is across from Carrefour, but I'm hoping to avoid driving there. Does anyone know the telephone number and if UBC is offering any tasty promotions? Any help appreciated. Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Their number is 0 2725 2525. I don't know of any promotions right now, but they can tell you when you call. Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Personally I ditched UBC after they dropped BBC Entertainment - the huge number of repeats couldn't justify the cost of their packages. They even have a little trailer - in Thai - where a kid asks 'why are there so many repeats" only to be replied by his granddad (respected authority figure) 'It's so that people who work nights and shifts can watch the programs too' The young boy smiles in agreement .. personally I canned 'em .... Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I was also upset when they dumped BBC Entertainment, but I like all the Discovery channels, especially Travel & Living, so I am keeping it. Quote

Guest jtrack33 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 In Pattaya, I thought you had a good, cheap alternative to UBC. When I stay with my Thai friend in Pattaya on Sukumvit Road, he has free cable access in the building (Bht2,300/month...so you know it's not a classy joint), that shows CNN, BBC, CNBC and Fox. Fox has got to be more fun than Discovery Channel than all the other stuff I pay Bht2,250/month for here in Bangkok! Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I don't get Fox. What is so great about Fox? Their news really sucks. I get Star World that has a lot of US sitcoms. Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 What do you use now? ummm .. actually BTV (which for the money is fairly decent - Universal, Sci-Fi, movie channels, and even History Channel after 10pm. Also has TAN ... Thai Asian News Network Thai news broadcast in English ... very useful..... and a feed from South Africa to get my UK favourites ... Quote

Now that Sophorn Cable has Universal and Sci-Fi, I am now watching that more than UBC (Trurevisions) by far. I am seriously considering giving up UBC. They seem to hardly have anything but reruns. I miss BBC Entertainment too. I don't see the value in UBC (Truevisions) any more. Quote
Guest RichLB Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Thanks guys for all the input. I finally got ahold of UBC (Truevisions) and they do, in fact, have a promotion during the month of September. If you order either their platinum or gold package you get free installation and a year of either the Discovery Package or the Disney Package. I agree that cable has a lot of good things to watch, but I miss my History Channel, Sports Channels, and CNN which Sophon doesn't offer in my building. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I think you will enjoy the Discovery channels. Quote
Guest jtrack33 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Yes I agree, the Discovery package is worth having. Without the benefit of the promotion, I have to pay about Bht200/month extra for it on top of the platinum package. I was lucky and had saved all the Little Britain episodes on a Panasonic HDD/DVD recorder before they pulled the plug on BBC Entertainment. I don't think of Fox as a serious news channel, but it's just so biased it unintensionaly has entertainment value. But I am guessing it would be very annoying to watch every day. Quote
Guest painai Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I also like UBC, mainly for CNN and the Thai programs. My Thai friends like the HAY HA comedy channel and I like some of the Thai language talk/documentary shows. Watching Thai soap operas gets pretty boring. As for the Travel/Leisure channel, seems like every time I tried watching it--it was either LA Ink or Miami Ink. I dropped it, shows about tattoos are pretty boring. It wasn't worth the extra cost. Guest lvdkeyes Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Too bad you canceled it, the tattoo shows are on late in the evening only. Quote
Guest frodo Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 UBC is expensive for what you get, in my humble opinion. I download my TV programs via torrent websites for free, and watch them when I want. Quote
