PattayaMale Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I have been trying to think of a new place to travel to. Being a US citizen, there are some barriers against Cuba. But searching the web, I noticed that there are flights from Bangkok. I see that most of the world can visit without a problem (what is up with this US Embargo). So since many gay men living in Thailand like to travel, has this been a place someone has visited? And is there gay life there? Quote
Guest Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 I don't know of a non stop from Bangkok. Which airline does the transfer? If you go to Mexico, using the Cuban airlines are easy. Cuba will often not stamp an American passport as they don't want their visitor to get in trouble. The scene there is great (from what I have heard). It is more of a street scene and some areas similar to Sunee. But, you need to speak the language and you need to be careful where you stay. The nice hotels (there are many there) will not allow you to have a guest. You can rent places that will. The cost is very cheap for the guys if you are looking for a companion. They love USD. They are manly guys. Very similar to those in Brazil. Why not just meet me in Rio for Carnival? I show you the saunas there? BTW: Brazil also has flights to Cuba. Quote
Guest Oogleman Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 what are the visa requirements for Brazil & Cuba GT? Before i get old and senile (some say i already am lol) i might go on a final world trip. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Now you have upset me. I'm sorry I have a personal Ban on speaking about CUBA, because my self and my regular CUBAN Vacation friends, say none of us want the embargo to end with AMERICA, we love it as it is now and has been for years, do you think we want all the negative side of the USA to spoil CUBA, when I go ,as I am soon, there is so many Americans there, they don't need to raise the EMBARGO to be there. Who wants to see Mc.Donalds on ever street corner or Yucky KFC and all the other hideous sites, I wont go into here. BURGER KING Microwaved in a Bun. In other words see what has happened to our last Holiday Hot Spot 'Puerto Rico' you could now be in MIAMI or any where in America, its totally lost its true Identity, like another Hot spot before in the 70s 'Hawaii' previously, see what happened there and that will tell you all you need to know. So if your a brave American you can go easy to CUBA, as many do, if not leave CUBA alone, we all love it as it is now, not the worst of the USA ruining it like cancer, in the name as they say of progress, they are trying to ruin Thailand now and we will all be moving on, in the next few years, so soon there will be No where untouched by progress, the very reason we came to Thailand, CUBA or Puerto Rico, Hawaii, is because it was not as it is in AMERICA. If we want America we can all go there, not these fabulous places. No forget CUBA the men have very small portions, the food also and is disgusting, the Beaches are horendous, and the people very unfriendly, the cars are very backward and its such a dump forget CUBA please. Yes stay visiting South America, what fun to win the lottery, if your going to get out alive, unless your street wise there like GT its so dangerous, they should have a health warning for RIO. Sao Paulo. Last time I was there 100 yards up the beach, I heard a gun shots and the people there had there bags stolen one dead, in the Hotel I heard more gun shots and went to investigate the next day and about 8 small boys, were there laying dead, they said the shop owners pay the off duty police, to shoot them, as they run in a shop, in numbers, steal what they can and run out., we went to a restaurant and we all got robbed, the police came shot the robbers dead, we had to step over them and we thought, it was like a disney reinactment robbery, but no this is for real, I can go on. Yes go to Brazil its great just like America. see this:- http://ipsnews.net/n...sp?idnews=46596 Quote

I don't know for British guys. For Americans to go to Brazil they get a 5 year visa they have to pay for. I think you can stay up to 6 months a year in the country and can stay for months at a time. I think the same is true for Brits but you pay less visa fees. You can also take your Thai boyfriend to Brazil easily as they have reciprocity agreements. Rio is amazing. Simply fabulous. So is Sao Paulo. These are more typical of the guys you will see in Brazil. My friend took these photos from the guys at the saunas. As you see, if you are into the skinny lads, this is not the place to go. IMHO They are trying to ruin Thailand now and we will all be moving on, in the next few years. I don't think Americans are trying to ruin Thailand. I think that all foreigners will end up spoiling it. The western drive for material possessions and progress is not a uniquely American thing. I do agree with that that I don't think Thailand will be as good in a few years and many will move on. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Yes, when I said 'they,' I mean all westerners and in particular those in Thailand who want it to be like there own home. The very opposite reason, us old timers came here before the 90s, in the first place is that it was nothing like our own country. But the influence on Puerto Rico, Hawaii are very American negative, if you was there before the American Influence, as I was and we just do not want it to happen in CUBA Thank You. Strange your photos do not come out on my computer Quote
Guest Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Strange your photos do not come out on my computer I have changed the way I uploaded them now. Can you see them now? These photo were thanks to TomCal, a friend in California who knows more about the sauna scene in Brazil than anyone I know. I added them as I know you of all people would enjoy the visuals. They are very sexy guys and the thing that keeps me going back to Brazil 4-5 times every year. And, I thought Oogie might want to see what to expect in the saunas. What about it Mr. O? Want me meet me for Carnival next year? Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 As some of you probably know, I do like to play devils advocate, to slap some readers round the face with words, to stimulate them to write on the forums. But now I must genuinely say the last Time I went to Brazil, to get guyz like you have in the photos, unless they are none scene, they were charging ridiculous prices and some of the best guys are even flown around the world, as if they were "Take Aways" but if Oggie goes with GT he will direct you round the land mines of danger and you may have a half a chance of getting back on the plane. I hate to tell you The Carnival time, is the most dangerous with the most deaths, and violet robberies, because as I said, you have to get the stunners before they get on the scene, as you do in the west, because then they will charge big money and can get it. so to find the guy, types, you like in thailand, you have to go to more dangerous areas, Sao Paulo area is the best I found, but the most dangerous.. Most Dangerous City in the World? Ill let you into a well kept secret Colombia, is a lot safer and I just love the men there? http://www.gayscout.com/queerguide/c0g174/Colombia Quote

Hey guy........................ The reason I want to go to Cuba now is that I imagine the travel embargo will be lifted within the next 2 years. As far as Brazil goes, I am not sure I could afford it. I heard the prices were very high. maybe they are in Cuba too. I see in the photos that the guys are wearing numbers. Same Thailand? The escort fee is usually what in Brazil......please don't say up to you. Quote

I like getting slapped around a bit. You are wrong about Carnival time IMHO. It is the safest time to go. Why? There are more cops on the street than any other time of the year and more security and the drug lords have a pact with police to curb violence during this time in order to keep tourists who pay 5 times normal rates for hotels. I book my 5 nights of Carnival every year with points. Why? They are the same number as a regular night and the hotels don't care as the company headquarters will pay them a percentage of the daily rate for that time. Brazil is more dangerous than Thailand. But, walking in the park by the palace at 2am is not as safe as going to Siam Paragon. One just had to be cognizant of their surroundings. Quote

I see in the photos that the guys are wearing numbers. Same Thailand? The escort fee is usually what in Brazil......please don't say up to you. Totally incorrect. The prices are similar. The American Chain hotels are about the same as here. If you stay at a local place you will get a good rate. Depends on the quality you desire. I pay about 150 USD a night for the Intercontinental in Rio and 250 a night in Sao Paulo. That is comparable to the rate at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bangkok. The food is inexpensive. The boys are the same rate. The boys in the saunas do a short time for 50R. They may ask for 60 or 100 but will always go for 50. For a newbie, they will try to get more. It is talked about up front and before you go with them. NEVER up to you! NEVER. Talk about it before and agree. The rates are very similar in Sao Paulo and Rio. I normally pay agree to 50 and tip what I want. When I give a good tip, they remember me and so do all their friends. At Carnival, have taken boys to the parade many times which is only a fantasy in many people's minds. The rates for a ticket are up to 3500 USD. It is a priceless experience for a Brazilian guy. I had one BF there a few years back and we were going to the parade and with my third boy. The last guy canceled at the last minute and I told the BF to invite one of his friends. He invited a bartender from a sauna. Now, when I go to that sauna, he tells everyone, "that is the man to go with." I get showered with a wave of beautiful tanned surfer boys. I saw where I could fly to Hong Kong and then onward. Also many of the European airlines fly there. GT= I am curious as to why you have never tried Cuba. If you don't mind... Thanks. I didn't know that. I did not say I have not been. I said my friends go all the time. It is not legal for an American to go there. I will go often when the law changes. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Yes if you want the biggest dicks you have ever seen, and at the right price similar to Thailand, get to CUBA now, before the flood gates open The Americans that are there on vacation, arrive from Canada or Mexico, or British Airways direct london to Sao Paulo is the way I go, they have to spend cash and they do not get a stamp on there passports, No problem. If it is safer now at Carnival, it must have changed a lot since I was there, the last time I went 9 guys were murdered On the the first day. As for prices for boys, they must have come down as they use to charge minimum 100 dollars a time. I can get any one I want in Europe for that money. Including Brazilians. unless you went to the dangerous areas. One stunner told me if you want stunning good looks, you have to pay, I only go for the weekend 800 dollars, mind you, he was a sensation, so was his friends. By the way I go direct, Virgin Atlantic from London, Gatwick Airport, to CUBA Havana, no problem. Quote

Guest Posted August 30, 2009 Posted August 30, 2009 Hey GT Having been to Brazil with you, I am convinced you found the only 3 non muscle boys in Rio and maybe Sao Paulo also. LOL Well, I try. That is why someone needs a tour companion. I know where to look. Heyday my dear, I have been to Brazil for many many years and have never been asked the rates you quoted. I am flabbergasted. It was 50R in the saunas 8 years ago and is the same today. Now, I did have one boy I met on the Internet who wanted more. He asked for like 1k for a weekend. I had him for one hour and paid him for the hour and he stayed with me for a month. He had a nice hotel, a nice shopping trip daily, etc. but, like all places, a hooker will try to get what they can from you. Being a businessman, I often make them a deal they can't refuse. For those Interested, here are some Carnival Pics from 2006. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 You can also take your Thai boyfriend to Brazil easily as they have reciprocity agreements. What route do you fly to get from Thailand to Brazil?? I know that you can't go through the US, as all of the airports require you to enter the US before transiting to another country....even if only there a couple of hours. I have been trying to find a way to take my Thai partner to Mexico, but same problem...you have to have US visa to transit through LAX etc. Anyone know how to beat this system?? Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 What route do you fly to get from Thailand to Brazil? Air France via Paris is one way to go, and I am sure there are several other European airlines flying there, as atri1666 suggests. Quote
Guest njjim Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Just felt I needed to add a view of Rio from someone who can not afford the Inter Continental (in Bangkok or Rio). To give the impression that Rio and Pattaya are comparable is I think misleading on several levels. For most of us the cost in Rio would be considerably more than Pattaya. My experience has been that $100 is about average for a decent, safe hotel in Rio (a lot more during Carnival). Also, be aware that most hotels do charge a joiner fee, which can be substantial - so do check. And guys in the saunas who will go with you for R50 ($25) are certainly available. But I think R60-70 ($30-35) might be more of an average -unless you are a regular or willing to let your first choice walk away - but there are many choices. But you must also add in $12.50 to get in to the sauna, and $10-$20 for the room(depending on whether the room has AC or not- and the rooms can be quiet warm) and this fee is charged each time you take someone to a room. If your budget is tight (there are some nights with reduced room rates). Plus there is the bar bill (drinks are not expensive) and it is customary to buy you friend a drink. So adding it all together, it is not difficult to run up a bill of $100 just for the sauna and that is on top of whatever you have given the guys. But the main difference is safety. Rio is a dangerous city. In Pattaya, we worry about pick-pockets or having something stolen from the room. In Rio, the worry is muggings (they happen day and night) and often involve knives or guns. Drugging is widespread - watch your drink or Good Night Cinderella - as the drugs are sometimes called there - and some theives have mastered the art of administering the drug with a kiss. So a few basic rules would be - after dark take taxis, do not pick up anyone on the street (no matter how attractive), no jewelry, no expensive watches or cameras - carry only the money you will need for the evening (anything else of value stays in the safe). And the climate is considerable different than Pattaya - May-September (winter there) can be cool and rainy. So don't expect the beautiful beach scenes in the tourist brochures unless you go during high season. But having said all this - my advice is do go. Just be prepared -take: plenty of money and even more common sense - err on the side of caution. There are any number of sites with lots of advice, so do some research - it will pay off. Rio is incredible and the guys are unbelievably hot. Quote
dapitt Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 Thanks for this info from your point of view, njjim. It is sure to be helpful to anyone planning or even contemplating a trip. Well done. Quote
Guest gorcum Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I have been several times to Cuba, it is a beautiful country and the people are fantastic. Their is a gay scene, but not in bars or clubs, you can meet gay guys on Malacon and in central parks. you can not take a Cuban friend in a hotel, but you can rent rooms in private houses, and than take some one along. transportation in between cities is good, with tourist buses, but local transportation in cities is just horrible. you will have to take a taxi to get places. the food is not very good and the hotels are not very well run. I understand a lot of shortages of everything again in Cuba because of the global economy. The Cuban immigration officers do not stamp a passport, so US citizens do not have to worry about that. Quote
