Throughout Thailand, it's April 13-15. In Pattaya, about 4 more days tacked on the end.

Songkran is great. Just go into it with the intensions of having a lot of fun. You just may enjoy it :)

If it were only one day I would enjoy it, like it was when I came here as a tourist, but when it was for 6 days of getting constantly soaked and powdered whenever I went out, the fun ended. The first year I lived here I stayed for Songkran and vowed I would never do it again as long as it was within my power to leave. I think KL, Melacca and Penang are good choices this time.

if you enjoy the "water festival" it is spelt Songkran, if you don't enjoy it then is is spelt songkram which translates as "war"

The various boards annually go through the "I love it" or "I hate it" views of Songkran.

It's fun if your a kid at heart whereas many falang simply hate it. The Thais seem to love it.

I spent this last Songkran in Hua Hin where it's only celebrated for one day (other than some minor/preparatory water tossing on the back sois during the evening of April 14th).

Typically, I'm in Chiangmai and, although it's only 3 days there, it's a bloody war surrounding the moat of the old city. But, hell, wear a t-shirt, flipflops, shorts, and put your wallet in a plastic baggie - and go enjoy the smiles/carnage/etc.

I'm with TOQ. I love it . . . all of it. The only aspect of it that I dislike are the drunken farang dousing people and trying to knock people off their motorcycles. That part I'm sure we can all live without.

Songkran seems to be something you either love or hate. There doesn't seem to be much of an in-between.

GB, during Songkran try leaving your car at home and using songthiews or motorbike taxis to get around and see how much you like it them.
