Hi All. Sorry about this topic as probably many posts before. Anyone suggest a nice gay friendly hotel in Pattaya? I guess i am too lazy to troll through all those i can find on various web sites and am looking for a personal experience recommendation. Price range - i guess somewhere around 1500-2000Baht per night. If you know of cheaper and nice please let me know.

Somewhere near the gay area and gay beach would be good. I have obviously never been there before.

Grateful for any advice.

Thanks

The gay areas are not near the gay beach.

I prefer to get hotels near the gay areas, as I can walk to & from the bars easily at night. Going to the beach in daytime is no problem, because the baht buses are frequent & cheap.

The Ambience in Boystown is a good option.

The obvious options to look at to me would be The Venue (had friends stay there last month and were very pleased) or Poseidon ...

It depends on your length of stay. If you're going to be here more than three weeks, it would pay to rent a Condo for a month. Rentals at View Talay condos in Jomtien abound at under 17,000 baht a month. Do the math. A 1500 baht a day hotel room will cost you 45000 a month. You can get a helluva lot of action with the difference. If you want maid service, you can contract that at a reasonable price, especially if you don't need it every day. And all the Jomtien action is just a short walk across the street. I've gone that route twice with excellent results.

I've always stayed at the Mike Hotel which is around the corner from Boyztown. It's above the Mike Department Store and colocated with Mike Billiards, Mike Massage and Mike Beauty Parlor. It's not gay but gay friendly. It's not gorgeuos but the suites are spacious as are superior rooms. What I like most is the staff. Very friendly. They've saved me a lot of hassles and a lot of money. They check ID cards carefully and will advise if something is suspicious. They will also give you an accurate idea what you should pay the baht busses to various locations. My last trip I had some medical procedures scheduled at Bangkok Pattaya hospital. The desk clerks told me not to pay more than 150 bht each way, but outside drivers wanted 1100 - 2000 bht, obviously because I am farang. It's also a short walk to Sunee. You can catch a baht bus to Jomtien on Beach Road not far from the beach road entrance to the dept store. Boat Bakery is across the street with cheap but very good Thai and European food. American breakfasts are about 85 bht if I remember correctly.

On my first trip there I had booked with Tours to Paradise. Their Thai guide advised to put a couple hundred baht in an envelope and present it to the desk staff at check out at the end of my stay. It's more a show of respect than a financial windfall for the staff, but when I did, I was not forgotten on my next trip. In fact, they gave me a handful of keys and let me pick out the room I preferred for myself.

A frequent traveller friend of mine always tips hotel staff in the first day or two of a longish stay. He says that always works wonders :p

Tipping early in your stay helps for sure. It helps for future stays if you tip at the end of your stay also.
