First, I want to thank Astrrro for the information provided to me in another thread about the bars. Without his knowledge, I would not have known where to go or what to do. The bars are all there but finding the would have been hard without his great detail. Thank you!

Nana Plaza isn't for everyone. If you want a totally gay area, this is NOT it. The majority of bars are for ladies. The Ladyboy bars are mixed in with these.

 

Nana Plaza is right next to the JW Marriott. I have stayed there so many times and never spent much time in the Plaza and I am glad I did tonight as we both had a great time and the boyfriend thanked me over and over again.

 

I agree with Astrrro that Obsessions had the most beautiful ladyboys. Cascade was also in the same league. Both bars had some of the most beautiful ladyboys around. The ones from Obsessions were a bit more laid back than Cascade. The ones in Cascade were aggressive and one ran over to me first things and kissed me, hugged me and put my hands on her fake boobies and said she was happy to see me AGAIN. LOL Well, it was a nice trick as I did laugh. But, having never met her, I was not going to tip her just for the good come on line.

 

Cascade was like a cave with rocks and a large revolving stage. I don't know how many girls were there but there must have been 60 or more at least. They were flooding the isles. They also had a good amount of customers. Obsessions also had a fair amount of girls and customers. Both bars were fairly cheap and I think drinks were around 120 baht. We went to a few girl bars as well and they were more expensive than the ladyboy bars but only slightly. All were still SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than Soi Twilight.

 

Casanova was interesting as we sat down and a ladyboy gave me her phone and had me watch a video of her fucking a falang. He had a gift. Her cock was so obvious and she said she would fuck me and the boyfriend could fuck her. Not sure why she suggested those roles but we passed on it. I did enjoy her gyrating on the stage so much I gave her a nice tip when I left.

 

My least favorite bar was Temptations with all the seats sitting around lounging. I didn't enjoy it.

 

The experience tonight was great. We had a few ladyboys over for drinks and made plans later for one of them. The boyfriend is into Ladyboys and I enjoy them from time to time as well as long as they LOOK like a lady and not like a boy. His tastes seem to go for the Japanese looking girls and mine are for the more exotic look and therefore it is hard for us to find a good match for both of us.

 

There a McDonalds right at the corner and easy to find food all over.

 

For those of you that like Ladyboys, give Nana Plaza a try. For those of you that don't but enjoy a good time anyway, it is fun and a great place to spend an evening doing something you would not normally do. I will say I saw more customers tonight in these bars than I have in months in the other bars on Soi Twilight. Plus, many of the customers were quite cute as well. A few very young college age boys from the states were there and offed a few girls. Lucky them.

It has been a while since my review of this area but I was there again last night. Having been to the gay bars on Soi Twilight several times in the past few weeks and with hardly no customers, I was expecting the same in Nana. That was not the case. The bars were full and people were having fun and laughing and spending money.

 

The difference IMHO is the cost. We had 3 beers in Obsessions and the cost was under 300 baht for all three. This means I am very comfortable buying a gogo dancer drinks. If we had the same drinks at one of the bars on Soi Twilight, it would have been 900 baht.

 

So, Nana bars were full with customers (we went to both ladyboy bars and girl bars) and the bars on Soi Twilight are not as busy. The cost is 3 times higher in the gay bar area. I wonder if any relationship can be drawn?

A year or so ago, three of us went to sample the Soi Nana ladyboy bars, never having been there before. We started in Obsessions - and never left! We found the 'girls' beautiful, fun and just had a great time. And as Michael points out, the prices seemed almost ridiculously cheap compared to Soi Twilight.

Obsessions is a lot of fun! The boys I took last night had a great deal of fun and laughs. The ladyboys there are not shy. I had at least 5 come over to talk to me and show me on their cell phone a pic of their cock. They would say: "I have big cock and can fuck you. Your boy can fuck me. I can do everything."

 

No one was insulted when we said we didn't want to buy them a drink or did not want them to sit with us. They would move on to the next chap.

 

And, you are right FH, the prices are crazy cheap for so much entertainment.

Isn't the real attraction of these bars not only that there are ladyboys and the drink prices are very reasonable, as Michael says it's the fact that everyone has a great deal of fun. In my experience, that happens increasingly rarely now in the gay bars.

I definitely agree with that! Your post definitely touches a nerve with me. This is precisely what I have been saying is the problem with the gay go-go bars, Bangkok and Pattaya included. They lack what I call the "fun factor." Martelly, on another thread, wrote about the dull bar shows. In my opinion that is also part of the problem.

 

I keep saying the same thing, so I might as well say it again: I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but I simply do not enjoy going to a go-go bar at which the boys do little more than stand there on the stage doing the "One-Knee Shuffle" while appearing more bored out of their minds than anything else, with excessively loud music volume, with pushy mama-sans or waiters, with high drink prices and off fees, and it's more like a meat display.

 

It's dull. It's routine. It's predictable. And to me, one bar is very much the same as the next. I know if I go to one bar, the next bar is going to be almost exactly the same. The only real difference I see is which heads are on which bodies.

 

Also, in my opinion, the bar shows are lousy. It's been the same old thing at virtually every bar for years. I truly believe some bar shows are more popular than others not because they're any good, but because they are less lousy than other ones.

 

And the owners can't figure out why they have so few customers.

Take a peek (or another look if you've already seen her) at the ladyboy Bob posted on the Ladyboy, ladyboy come out and play thread. Her name is Areeya. Maybe we can get a few clues from that nice photo.

 

As we all know, for every ladyboy we see with silicon-enhanced breasts, there are many many more who cannot afford the money for this op, a ballpark figure for which is 50,000 baht. (The photo says $4000 but you can get it for less than that). With that hefty investment behind her, assuming the ladyboy wishes to work in a bar, she's got a massive incentive to prove to herself it was all worthwhile. She's going to fight for every customer, using every trick in the book. Any ladyboy thinking she can get away with doing Gaybutton's least favourite, the 'one knee shuffle', will soon have to perk up her act. In addition, ladyboys are proud of their 'new' bodies and, quite naturally, want to flaunt it, and flaunting yourself? . . . well, if that isn't fun, what is?

 

Over in the gay go-go bars, on the other hand (and assuming it's a bar which doesn't employ any ladyboys), boys are boys. But there is another important distinction. Some are gay and some are not. I certainly would not dispute that gay boys are also proud of their bodies, but there is a much greater likelihood they take it for granted. When you add to the mix in the average gay go-go bar those boys who're straight, sometimes referred to as 'gay-for-pay', it seems to me the chances are the fun-quotient will be lower in bars like these compared to the average ladyboy bar.

 

If any of us ever venture into girly go-go bars perhaps they can chip in here. If girly bars are fun places too, like the ladyboy establishments appear to be, that suggests the gay places are definitely not doing certain things right. If the girly bars are also a bit hum-drum then that'd mean (unless the ladyboy bar-owners have some kind of magic potion) that it's the ladyboys themselves who make the difference.

 

I have no evidence for this but my explanation does at least seem rational to me. As to the question "why don't the gay-bar owners do something about it", I have no explanation.
