Guest fountainhall Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 As reported in the media. there will be a major crackdown on illegal taxis and unlicensed guides at Suvarnabhumi airport starting July 28. Isn't it just so typical! Instead of just doing it, they announce the crackdown days in advance. No doubt this is to give all those who are creaming off millions from tourists plenty of time to crawl back into their metal and glass holes. In a few days, once it's over and a few fall-guys have been arrested, the airport will be declared 'clean' and the scam artists will be as busy as ever. What especially annoys me is that it will probably force more people to use the vastly overpriced AOT taxis. AOT is the only operator allowed to sell its services right inside the customs hall. If you miss them there, then their staff are the first ones to assail you as you walk out. But of course that's an AOT-sanctioned scam. So it will pass scrutiny! Quote

Since they announced it in advance, I doubt there will be any fall-guys arrested at all. I agree with you. What kind of crackdown is it if they announce it in advance? That gives plenty of time for the people who should be arrested to simply skedaddle . . . temporarily. This, to me, seems right up there with crackdowns on Beach Road prostitution, crackdowns on counterfeit goods, and crackdowns on just about everything else. I don't know why, but the word "bullshit" comes to mind. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 On a different, but similar note, when I was working in hospitals and in home care in the US, the inspectors would always give plenty of warning as to when they were coming. Everyone got in a panic and cleaned up what needed to be. I often said if they would just come unannounced we would be forced to keep things in shape all the time. I never understood it. Quote

Guess what Lvdkeyes, JACHO changed their procedures two or three years ago and now they do not announce their inspections anymore. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Guess what Lvdkeyes, JACHO changed their procedures two or three years ago and now they do not announce their inspections anymore. It took them long enough. I retired in 2004 after nearly 35 years as an RN. Quote
