Guest fountainhall Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Has anyone actually found his way to this Spa? I recall on another post Stef tried and failed. I'm waiting for a report before deciding. And I wonder what is new about the Spa since it has been there for years. I also notice that there has been no change to the confusing map and photos. Quote

Guest fountainhall Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Thanks - but I live quite near and prefer to walk. Stef spent a long time walking around and could not find it since there is no sign outside. I suggest you might consider putting up a sign with an arrow by that parking garage. Quote

I feel sure they would send someone out to get you. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted July 22, 2009 Posted July 22, 2009 Now, why didn't I think of that! Perhaps because I have never before had to call any establishment. I have always found maps useful and know I have got directions right when I see a sign or arrow. The one for Candle Spa does seem somewhat obscure. However, I'll check the directions myself in the next couple of days. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 Well, I did my research this afternoon, and have returned home hot, sticky and not at all reassured by the Spa's map or its location. Let me first say that I travel a great deal and am very good at reading maps. Also in general I have little faith in Bangkok taxi drivers' ability to read maps in Thai or to know where somewhere is even when written in Thai, unless it is very close to one of the main roads or a well-known building. Equally, from considerable experience, when the place I am visiting is out of the way, I have no faith in their ability to understand directions given to them on the phone by a fellow Thai. This may not be true in other cities in the country, but I have found it is certainly true here. However, I decided first to give a taxi the chance to find the Spa. I got one on Sathorn near Soi Convent, showed him the map (which of course is in English) and the Thai directions. The driver hadn't a clue. So I got him to take me into Rama 4 by the Night Bazaar and up the unnamed soi opposite Lumphini Tower (as indicated on the map), the biggest landmark building around. As also indicated on the map (wrongly), we then turned first right and ended up in a bustling street-side market in a low cost housing estate. Nowhere could we locate a parking garage. After some more exploration, I gave up, paid the driver and walked over to Starbucks in Life Centre at the top of Sathorn to relax and read the papers. I ventured forth again around 5:15pm - this time on foot. With map in hand, I wound my way through endless roadside stalls (including some very tasty looking food stalls) to Soi Bukjit (spelled on the road sign as Soi Pluk Chit). But this is not opposite Lumpini Tower - it is a good 80 or so meters before that building. So I walked on until I found the Siam Commercial Bank and turned into the unnamed soi immediately after it. As indicated on the map, I turned first right, all the time looking for the garage entrance highlighted on the photos. This was a rabbit warren of food stalls, low-cost housing and eventually squatter housing. Like Stef some time ago, I wandered in and out of several little alleyways, with absolutely no success. Coming back out on to Rama 4 near the expressway, I retraced my steps. This time I went back up the unnamed Soi opposite Lumpini Tower, Instead of turning first right. I walked straight on towards some high blocks of low cost housing - almost the last place I'd expect to find a gay massage spa. But after about 100 meters, there I finally saw the sign to Rama 4 City on my right. Sure enough, if you then walk into the Stygian darkness of the ground floor of the garage, on your right you soon come to the Spa. Since it's so dark in there, I for one would not wish to set foot in there much after sunset. You will no doubt ask why I did not use my phone and call them. Firstly, if an establishment is so hard to locate - and this one is HARD, then I will only resort to the phone if I have had several people tell me what a fantastic experience they had there. Secondly, I do not think it is up to me to find my way to an establishment that gives its potential patrons absolutely no sign of any description indicating where it is. There are plenty of other massage places on the other side of Rama 4 which are extremely simple to locate. I for one do not plan to make that hike again. SInce I cannot see tourists finding their way there, I assume the Spa is essentially for Thais. If a few posters take the plunge and report that it is the best massage in Bangkok, I might just be persuaded to give it a try. But the reviews will have to be raves! Quote

S I suppose this is a foolish question, but after you went to all the trouble of finding it, why didn't you go in? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 In KL I had a hard time finding a sauna and ended up calling them and they told the taxi driver where they were located. When we got to where the taxi driver said was the place, I called them again and then sent a guy downstairs to meet me. Believe me it was well worth the effort, which was considerable. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 after you went to all the trouble of finding it, why didn't you go in? 2 reasons. Firstly I did not have time. Had I found it with the taxi, perhaps I would have gone in. But the ground floor of the car park is very dark, even in daylight. Getting there close to 6:00 pm, I would be extremely reluctant to come out 90 minutes or so later into what would be near pitch black. I really think the location sucks big time! When we got to where the taxi driver said was the place, I called them again and then sent a guy downstairs to meet me If anyone can get a taxi to find this place, I'll buy the drinks! Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 If anyone can get a taxi to find this place, I'll buy the drinks! What's that old business adage? Location, location, location. Ok, Mr. Candle Paradise Spa, I think it's about time for a serious response from you. You chose to advertise here and now you're seeing posts from people who have tried to find you. Some can't find you at all and one who could doesn't want to go in because of the darkness of the entrance. I think you're going to have to do much more than provide a map that people can't seem to follow or tell people to have the taxi driver call for directions that even he can't seem to follow. How do you intend to address these problems? Quote
Guest Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I am making it my mission to try this place over the weekend so I'll see for myself how easy to find and how good the guys are. I am looking forward to testing this place out. Their site looks great and some sexy guys on it. Quote
