Guest HeyGay Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 What ever restaurant you choose, may I suggest you ask for a "Kobe Steak", the marbling in the Steak makes it melt in your mouth, hard to know who has this 'Kobe' but your never want anything else in a Steak again, the restaurant I go to is Amapola. its amazing. http://www.bangkok.com/tatler/restaurants/amapola.html 72/1 Sukhumvit Soi 51, Bangkok 10110 casual Reservations: Necessary for lunch, recommended for dinner Tel: 0-2258-7077 My other favorite is, well you did ask for the best, these are the best in the World :- Normandie Grill Bangok Oriental Hotel Oriental Avenue Bangkok Thailand This is good if you have a head for hights. Vertigo Grill and Moon Bar Phone: +66 2 659 9000 ext. 3380 Soi Chan 18/7 Yaek 21 Sathon, Thung Wat Don, Bangkok BANGKOK 10120 02-6791200 Vertogo Bar and Grill isn't just known for it's spectacular view. The food and the service is beyond compare. I shared a 400 gram Australian rib eye steak with bone marrow and a bottle of red house wine with my partner and we had a blast. With a couple of chilled towels to soothe us from the Bangkok heat (even on the 61st floor) the breeze was short and rare. the service was true to Banyan Tree expectations and the food was beyond compare, this was an experience well worth the money. Complimentary phoros were arrenged for each guest to take home and the service was leendary Banyan Tree. The view was a perfect compliment to the extraordinary experience. This bar and grill is a place perfect to splurge on because it's simply worth every penny. I love steak too, but no steak in the world, including Kobe, is worth that kind of money to me . . . unless of course someone else is paying for it. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Until you posted that GB, it was becoming apparent to me that many of the posters here are a lot more affluent than moi. Quote
Guest alaan Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Remember he did ask for the BEST steak in Bangkok...... and didn't give a maximum price limit. Quote

So I gave up the idea of a great steak and instead had one in the hotel's Coffee Shop. This was certainly one of the best I have ever enjoyed in Bangkok - and at a very modest price. Quote

Unless you have a very cheap Mortgage, you can have an excellent Kobe steak here for around 2500. Try it once and you will not want anything else. http://www.taasty.com/thailand/amapola Quote

Guest HeyGay Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 All depends on your standard of living and the quality of life you like to live, if you go to the Grand Palace then get a nice genuine guy from around there for 500 or so, you can save money to which you can then treat yourself and may be the boy, when you fall in love with him and dont need to go to expensive Bars any more, then you can afford the qualities of life. Gaybutton Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Considering the counterfeiting that goes on in Thailand, how do you know that what you're getting is really Kobe beef? Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Considering the counterfeiting that goes on in Thailand, how do you know that what you're getting is really Kobe beef? Having been catering trained and owned a 4 star Hotel in my previous life, it is easy to tell, just look for where the marbling has cooked with in the steak and if you taste it, your know its like having an orgasm in your mouth, I can asure you the restaurants I have added above are beyond counterfeiting, you can be asured your getting the real thing here. http://www.google.co.th/search?hl=en&q...amp;aq=f&oq= Quote
Guest lazarus Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 then you can afford the qualities of life. If I want a good steak I can buy it in the USA, but for a good boy, I come to Thailand; that is where the qualities of life are the best. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 If I want a good steak I can buy it in the USA, but for a good boy, I come to Thailand; that is where the qualities of life are the best. So does that mean when your in Thailand looking for a nice boy and want the best steak in the world, you unknowingly have them flown over from the USA, well ill let you in for a shock the restaurants I have told you about, are some of the best in the world, so if you can fly here for a boy where do you find that boy, because like steak, if you look at the right part of Thailand, you can find quality, if not your get a dud. Guest lazarus Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 You are right, HeyGay, I did get off topic mixing up the best steak with the best boy. Actually my bf seeks the best steak but I cannot afford that in Thailand; wish I could. Quote

I'd want the whole freakin' steer for that much. I'd even hand massage it myself and send it chocolates and flowers - although, if it's truly a steer, I don't imagine chocolates and flowers would matter too much. Maybe poppies. Quote

Guest Hedda Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 If you want a real dining experience and a good steak to boot - at a fraction of those five-star hotel prices - try Mizu's Kitchen ( aka Sarika's Steaks) in the sleazy heart of Patpong One, No. 32. It's a dump by most standards, a hole-in-the-wall that's been there for over 40 years, with two small dining rooms, up and down, and loads of character, like the old Japanese owner sitting by the cash register at the tiny first floor bar. But it serves a really good steak at less than 350 baht, the last time I looked. I have read that the steak is from a beef ranch up north and is served aged but not frozen. I have also read that the restaurant was a haven for CIA spooks during the Vietnam war era. Some think the red checkered tablecloths haven't been washed since then. Order the Sarika Steak, which is the house specialty, and which comes medium-to-medium rare. If you prefer it cooked longer, just let it cook for another minute on the hot griddle on which it's served at table. The place is a hoot, but a real bargain for an enjoyable beef steak. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 If you want a real dining experience and a good steak to boot - at a fraction of those five-star hotel prices - try Mizu's Kitchen I am amazed I thought your standards were very high, "HEDda" I was taken there a few months ago, I have seen the place for years with all high expectations, if its the small Cafe type place, as you describe, on the Soi opposite Screwboy GoGo in Patpong, the food was disgusting to be polite, I was most disappointed, but for 350 baht what can you expect, when you have tried the best, cheapest old cuts are disgusting, I'm afraid, GT was asking about the best. not the worst. May be it has gone down hill, I dont know when you was last there, but go now and then tell me it is good. even though to be fair, Customers were coming and going I must say. not for me though. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 If you want a real dining experience and a good steak to boot - at a fraction of those five-star hotel prices - try Mizu's Kitchen Maybe it's not good enough for HeyGay, but it sure sounds like my kind of place. No matter how good a steak is, I don't think I would enjoy it very much knowing I'm going to have to part with 2500 baht or more, plus tip, to pay for it. I have much better things to do with my money than to pay that much for a steak. I like steak too, but not that much. Next time I'm in Bangkok I'm going to try Mizu's Kitchen and judge for myself. Guest stef Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 Thanks Hedda. I'll make sure I give it a try next week when I am in Bangkok. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 The one thing good about this Mizu's Kitchen is it is as Hedda says, like going in to an old Black and white movie, you think at any minute Humphrey Bogart is coming down the stairs, I will be very interested in your honest opinion, of the food there, I must say I have many favorite 300 baht eating joints, but lets say this is not one of my favorites or may be I just ordered the wrong item on the menu 32 Soi Patpong 1, Th Silom, // Phone 0 2233 6447 Scroll down this page its all here :- http://hubpages.com/hub/Bangkok-Patpong-Red-Light-District As for the 2500 baht Steak you must realize this is all according to how much your wine is, to push up the bill and I’m sure now and then you like to spoil your self, at least once with some thing special or may be its me who is a food freak, but the other problem is I’m also hooked on fine wine as well, so when your palette gets the taste of this mixture, its hard to stop and live in dining rooms that are inferior, but as I said, there is so many good restaurants in Pattaya and Bangkok for 500 baht and above, some for 200 if you know where to look, I know GT and GB does, so we are truly blessed I must say in Thailand. GT did say he was looking for the Best Bangkok has to offer and as you see above, Bangkok has so much to offer, if you want to pay for it. I'm a firm believer of variety is the spice of life and that what I do, a little bit of everything it sure makes me happy any way. Quote
Gaybutton Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 GT did say he was looking for the Best Bangkok has to offer That's the problem. Everyone has his own individual opinion as to what constitutes "best." To me, the best is whatever I enjoy the most. If Kobe beef is really that good, then many are going to feel that's the best. For me a 2500 baht price tag, along with wine (which I don't really give a damn about), and everything else, by the time you're done, dinner is going to cost a bundle. I just wouldn't enjoy that. Maybe on a very special occasion, but that's about it. For me, the inexpensive steaks may not be the be the best, but what I look for is the flavor and texture I like best, not to mention a decent portion. One time, a few years ago, I was in Bangkok and I just had to have prime rib. I went to Hamilton's Steakhouse on friend's recommendation and had their prime rib. 1100 baht was the price and I wanted it so badly I was willing to pay it. It was excellent, but I ended up disappointed. The slice served to me was so thin I think I could have seen through it if I had held it up to the light. That's not my idea of a great dinner. If it's anything I can't stand, it's paying a premium price and ending up leaving the restaurant still hungry. To me that's a lot of crap that I can do without. I have the same opinion about Romanasia, in Pattaya. Their food is very good, but the portions are just too small. It's not just me. I ate there with two friends, neither of whom are particularly big eaters, and both said the same thing. All three of us left the restaurant still hungry. The portions at Manhattans, on the other hand, are so huge that even I can't finish. However, the last two times I ate there the quality of the prime rib was not even close to the quality that they served before they fired Tom, their original manager. I was disappointed in the quality twice. I don't think I'm particularly interested in a third try any time soon. Quote
