Wellhellothere Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I'm a 32-year-old residing on the sunny island of Singapore in Southeast Asia. I'm considering a trip to Bangkok in April. I'd be interested in arranging a meet-up to visit a gogoboys bar together (I'm a bit hesitant to go alone), or we could also grab lunch or dinner together. I'm eager to gain insight into the gogoboys bar culture, including the dos and don'ts. vinapu, stijntje and TMax 3 Quote
Popular Post caeron Posted February 26 Popular Post Posted February 26 I get the nervousness, but it isn't that scary. The only real "danger" is you'll get charged more than average if they sense you're naïve. Hopefully some locals will offer up more current details. Have fun. I love the city. Don't be hesitant to go alone Thai people are very friendly and polite ,Just make sure never to tell that’s your first time in Thailand to avoid overcharged prices and fees. vinapu, Londoner, dscrtsldnbi and 1 other 4 Quote
Londoner Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Welcome! Your first visit....how I envy you. I can still remember my first night in Thailand, where I went, what I saw. And who I met. That was nearly thirty years ago. You're in for a treat. Any questions you have will be answered by regulars on this site. vinapu and Olddaddy 1 1 Quote

IMHO not at all, but the only choice we have is either to enter+pay or not step foot in a bar at all. However, to be fair, 500 is not the price of the beer. It is a combo price for the following: 1. The beer. 2. The waiter's effort bringing it to you and watching you like a hawk for the rest of the evening in case you leave without settling the tab ("check bin"). 3. The gogo boys' pittance of a salary for being there on stage. 4. The extra allowances paid to those boys who participate in shows. 5. Your share of rent and utilities. 6. Your share of the brown envelope money that even permits the bar to operate the way it does. 7. Costs of other staff such as the DJ who does not know what tolerable volume level means. 8. Management profit. All the above add up to 250 baht, which would be more or less what the girl gogo bars charge. It is 500 baht because each customer who steps into a boy bar has to pay the share of the missing customer who, having seen the fast declining quality of the boys and their undress (less undressed than before), the boring shows, and the escalating prices, have since stopped to the bars or much less frequently than before. If not for paying the share of the missing customer, there won't be enough revenue to keep the bars going. Enjoy 😛 Shax, eurasian, Boy69 and 8 others 3 1 7 Quote

As macaroni said above you have choice. At least you will have beer, if you order bottle of water it still will be the same 500. Banana Club in soi 4 has lower drink prices, not sure it's 300 or 400 . Speaking about choice , old KLM joke ; Stewardess is asking passenger " will you have a lunch?", ' do I have a choice ?" , ' yes , yes or no". I guess the same about visiting go-go bar dscrtsldnbi 1 Quote

12is12 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I just checked the conversion rate. 500 baht = $14. What's the price of beer in the US ? Quote

Only difference in our route was walking over the bridge. While coming off on other side we found a very competitive game of volleyball being played beneath the bridge superstructure. We marveled at how these young men could get their bodies nearly horizontal to return the ball. Turned out to be one of the unexpected pleasures of the visit. Like you we also found the church locked when we arrived. Thanks for great photos and history. macaroni21, 10tazione, BL8gPt and 2 others 4 1 Quote

Leaving go-go bar alone is by no means guaranteed and if happens may be considered failure either because you are too picky or bar is not staffed properly Pantherz, BL8gPt, Boy69 and 2 others 2 3 Quote

srvhakko Posted February 27 Posted February 27 2 years ago, I was also shy about visiting a bar alone, but you don't have to be afraid, just focus on having fun. I was at Banana bar last night, customer drink is 450 baht, boys' drinks are 300 baht, bar fee is 500 baht. l paid 3900 baht totally ( 2 drinks for me, 2 drinks for my ultra cute Cambodian, 3 days off bar fee for my ultra cute Cambodian, 2 drinks my Cambodian's friend and 1 drink for mamasan). By the way, I will be in Bangkok in the 2nd week of April, if you are available, I can accompany you for a bar visit. My favorites are moonlight bar and banana bar🙂 vinapu and MarcSingap 2 Quote
