Guest Astrrro Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 The room that I rent in Pattaya has one of those standard brown blankets that aren't very comfy. At home I have a duvet cover which I put over a comforter. I was thinking of bring the duvet cover to Thailand to put over the brown blanket. Is this workable or are they really only meant to be put over a down comforter. Another issue is that the duvet i have is for a double bed and measures 6 feet wide, thought it was smaller but just measured it. The blanket inPattaya is for a queen bed which is certain;y widewr than my bed at home but don't know the blanket size. Will this present a problem. Or should I just buy one in Pattaya? If so where, Big C, Homeworks? Anyone have any idea of the cost? I'm trying to not burden myself down with extra stuff (not sure how log I'll stay) or extra expenses.
Gaybutton Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 I'm not sure they even have them in Thailand. If they do, I've never seen any. But why bother? Why not just use the comforter as is?
Guest Astrrro Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 The comforter is far too bulky to bring to Thailand. Well, I guess I could but might take up a whole suitcase.
Gaybutton Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 The comforter is far too bulky to bring to Thailand. Well, I guess I could but might take up a whole suitcase. Why not just buy a comforter here? They're sold all over the place. I was under the impression you either already had a comforter here or intended to buy one here. Why else buy the Duvet cover? If you absolutely must have a Duvet cover, and if you can't find any here, you could always buy a couple flat sheets and have one of the street seamstresses make a Duvet cover out of them.
Guest jomtien Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Why else buy the Duvet cover? BECAUSE HIS DUVET IS TOO SMALL!! HE WANTS TO COVER IT!!! PERSONALLY, I'M NOT INTO BIG DUVETS, BUT SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO BE!!
Gaybutton Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 BECAUSE HIS DUVET IS TOO SMALL!! HE WANTS TO COVER IT!!! Latex?
Guest Astrrro Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Why not just buy a comforter here? In the USA I have a duvet cover that I like and was thinking of bringing it to Pattaya and putting the standard brown blanket provided at my Thai apartment inside the duvet. Is this a stoopid plan? I'm not very domestic and am really clueless about these types of things.
Gaybutton Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Is this a stoopid plan? If it's something you really like, don't want to be without, would not be costly to bring, and would not take up so much room in your luggage you would have to deprive yourself of something else you want, then it seems like a perfectly reasonable plan to me.
mahjongguy Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 The new Central Festival department store has a wide selection of duvet covers. At the moment most of them are on sale for 30% off. One brand even has selected items that are "buy 1, get 3". Most brands make a king size duvet cover and sell it as "King/Queen". If your brown blanket is really too small for the cover, then just take the cover to a sewing shop. There are so many of them in South Pattaya, especially behind the Tukcom IT center.
Guest Astrrro Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 My concern is that the brown blanket will be too big. Is 6 feet width the normal size for a queen duvet?
Gaybutton Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Is 6 feet width the normal size for a queen duvet? I have no idea, but the next logical question is, given the temperatures in Pattaya, what do you want with a blanket in the first place?
Guest laurence Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I have no idea, but the next logical question is, given the temperatures in Pattaya, what do you want with a blanket in the first place? It's his woobie blanket!
Guest Astrrro Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I have no idea, but the next logical question is, given the temperatures in Pattaya, what do you want with a blanket in the first place? That's a good question GB! What i had been doing is runing the AC full blast right before going to sleep, then turning it off and turning the fan on all night. Sometimes if I wake up hot then I'd throw the covers off. The blanket is on the bed so i use it. Do you guys just use sheets? Btw, I have been asking many minor little questions lately, coffee, shoe repair etc. and I'm sure some guys are thinking don't I have more important things to think about? I view the forum as a virtual bar or coffee shop and these are some of the things I'd be talking about if we were having a beer or cup of coffee. Just everyday life stuff and not which bar has the hottest boys.
Gaybutton Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 I'm sure some guys are thinking don't I have more important things to think about? If they are, that's their problem. Nothing is wrong with your questions. I'll bet plenty of people are interested in the answers. We don't have a screening committee around here to determine whose questions and what questions are the most important ones. We try to answer them all, if we can. Granted that questions about coffee may not have the same seriousness and significance as asking why the universe continues to expand, but if it's a question that's on your mind, then it's an important question.
Guest joseph44 Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I brought my 4 season bed cover (Duvet?) with me when I moved to Thailand. I bought a Duvet-cover (?) at Tesco. It's impossible for me to sleep without aircon and under just a sheet. After 5 years my Duvet was at it's end and I bought a new one at BigC. Unfortunately, the white duvets (meant to use in a duvet cover) are hard to find. They only have them at Carrefour, but i found out too late) Bedding in Thailand is usually sold in sets, one set is 2 pillowcases, 2 bolsterscases and one fitted sheet. Duvet covers are sold seperately. I find them rather expensive. Important measures when buying bedding in Thailand: the width and height of the mattrass. 5 foot is queen size and 6 foot is king size Prices: Duvet THB 895 up Bed cover set: THB 399 up Duvet cover: THB 599 up
Guest laurence Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 If they are, that's their problem. Nothing is wrong with your questions. I do agree that if someone has a question it is proper to ask, but often times people already have made their decision and seem to be fishing, or is it trolling, for more and more responses as they dole out more and more info. Anyone that has been in Thailand, to the point where they intend to come here on a one-way ticket and live, must have some reasonable idea of services available here. You often see this type of obsessive questioning, not only on this forum, but also on the other forums. Which by the way, just why does the universe continue to expand?
Guest Hedda Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 I don't pretend to understand your sleeping habits, with or without that Duvet, but since you're apparently unfamiliar with Thailand, you should understand that bedding here is ferociously inferior in quality and design - or outrageously expensive to get something decent. The most expensive stuff is impossibly priced, if you can ever find it. The best stuff is all devoted to exports sold where you're coming from. The standard bedding package is one fitted sheet, two standard pillow cases and two bollard cases. You are expected to sleep under a blanket, with no flat sheet in between. That's why the Thais are so fastidious with keeping their bodies clean; they don't want to dirty the blanket and have to wash it too, which they rarely do. The pillow cases are standard sized, even those sold in a King size package. Many patterns don't bother to make a matching flat sheet or duvet cover. You rarely find king pillow cases that match anything. Standards linens in places like Big C and Lotus can be inexpensive, if you don't mind sleeping on fine polished burlap. Since sex is far cheaper than linen here, and you enjoy sleeping with quality in both, bring your bedding with you and save the money for the boys. There's also quality linen available for delivery to Thailand on the internet and the customs duties are surprisingly low.
Gaybutton Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 often times people already have made their decision and seem to be fishing, or is it trolling, for more and more responses as they dole out more and more info. Ok, what do you propose we do about it, set up a screening committee and require judgment on the quality of the questions before we permit them to be posted? Next question from me is: Even if what you say is true, so what? Who or what is being harmed by the questions you consider to be frivolous?
Guest laurence Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Ok, what do you propose we do about it, set up a screening committee and require judgment on the quality of the questions before we permit them to be posted? Next question from me is: Even if what you say is true, so what? Who or what is being harmed by the questions you consider to be frivolous? Nope! A stupid quesion deserves a stupid answer. No screening comittee; no one is harmed; nothing is too frivolous. Just let posters, post what they want, and let people like me post what I want without you getting your tits in a ringer! Fair enough?
Guest laurence Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 The best stuff is all devoted to exports sold where you're coming from. Agree with you Hedda. I brought my own linens with me, but, I bought extra deep for the non-existent box spring, so the fit is like the wrinkles on an elephants ass!. But it is, oh so soft on the skin. I bought it in the USA but it was made in Asia for export!
Guest Astrrro Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Anyone that has been in Thailand, to the point where they intend to come here on a one-way ticket and live, must have some reasonable idea of services available here. Yes, I do have a reasonable idea of what services are available on Pattaya. But, I figure by taping into the collective consciousness of a forum I may find out the best place to buy something. Although I've spent a total of about 18 months in Thailand there's still plenty I don't know. This is especially true for household items since on my last trip I was living in a furnished room. The only things I bought were a big fan and a water heater for coffee and instant noodles. Didn't need to buy any clothes even though I was here for 9 months. Everyone knows different stuff. For instance, I would think that many of you may not know the soi where you can get 100 baht Thai or foot massages. That'd be Soi Xcyte. In Manhattan last night by dumb luck I happened upon the Renegade Cabaret. So I'll tell my friends who without me might never find out about it. Renegade Cabaret I suppose everyone has a different tolerance for newbie questions, stoopid questions, info that could be found by searching, etc. On a ladyboy forum that I help moderate, if someone asks some of these irititating questions and I get there first I'll just answer it for the guy while if another moderator sees it he'll post something like, "f*ck off and go away".
Gaybutton Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Fair enough? No sir, it isn't. Your posts are starting to insult people. Calling people, their posts, and their questions 'stupid' is absolutely unacceptable on this board. One thing we don't need around here are posts like that, or anything else that makes our readers concerned that if they wish to ask questions, now they can look forward to a put-down as a response. We're not going to have people reluctant to ask their questions because someone like you will probably be right there to insult them. So, go ahead. Write an insult post again and you're gone. How's that for getting my tits in wringer?
Guest lvdkeyes Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 I don't understand why some people have to be rude. If they think a question is stupid, at the first sign of "stupidity" STOP READING it. So simple! Just like watching TV, if you don't like what you are seeing, turn the channel.
Guest laurence Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 So, go ahead. Write an insult post again and you're gone. No need Gabybutton, I'm gone now. You can have the forum to yourself which is what you crave. You can huff and puff like the Wizard of OZ, who, same as you a nice man, was basically full of hot air behind his facade as a wizard. Perhaps, someday, you may learn the meaning of the word "moderator", but for you words only mean what you want them to mean. Yes, you are more a dictator than moderator. Is that insulting enough? As usual you can and will have the last word. Laurence
Gaybutton Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 As usual you can and will have the last word. That's right. And my last word to you is don't let the door slam you in the ass as you leave. We'll try really hard to struggle along without you. Meanwhile, I'm sure people who wish to ask questions appreciate your departure announcement. Now they'll know they can post their questions and they'll know I mean business when I assure them they won't have to put up with put downs. Apparently you thought being a moderator means I'm going to allow you to insult and name call. You thought wrong.
