Gaybutton Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 My Thai boyfriend wants to come to the U.S. That's where, in my opinion, you hit the nail right on the head. I think there is a great deal of difference between a Thai boyfriend who wants to go as opposed to a boyfriend who is talked into going. The idea is for it to be a positive, enjoyable experience for all. Quote
Guest laurence Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 One thing I left un-mentioned was the money factor. To experience all of the wonderful adventures in the US with a Thai bf would be well beyond my financial limitations. Someday I may ask the bf of his thoughts but that will lead to some misunderstanding so maybe best not to ask him. Quote
PattayaMale Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 I understand Thaiworthy's feelings about enjoying Thailand better than working or living in the USA where we still struggle with being accepted fully. When I retired I had no plans to go visit the USA. I have many more friends my own age here in Pattaya who share similar interests and are very interesting because they all have had different careers. I find that I learn a lot from them and those that I choose to know best have great sense of humors. I too prefer to live here than in the USA. If my Thai friend would ever decide to work and live in the USA, I would be happy to visit him. I have been in a similar position when visiting Thailand, where people would question my reason for going so often and also "hint" about the sex trade. If they ever mentioned the sex trade, I always replied "Yea, ain't it great!" If ever questioned about underage sex or molestation, I would turn it to how under reported it is in the USA. What I would never do is give anyone the power over me. It took me along time to learn that the only way anyone can have power over me is if I give it to them. Once I learned it though, my life really did change. It was not easy for me however to learn that. I don't want to be seen as "preaching". My life living in Thailand is good for me. I don't think I have ever been happier. Quote
Guest Soi10Tom Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I find that people who are happy in one country tend to be happy anywhere....sometimes a little more some times a little less. I, also, find that people who are unhappy in one country tend to be unhappy anywhere and everywhere....sometimes a little less sometimes a little more. Keep in mind that happiness is a choice and one can chose to be as happy or unhappy as they please any place. One of the most interesting and saddest things that I have found within the expat community of Thailand are a disproportionate number of folks that came to Thailand to find the acceptance and happiness that had escaped them in their home country only to find themselves as miserable in Thailand after a rather short period of time as they were where they came from. After eating, whoring, drinking their hearts out they tend to wake up as miserable as they were in their home country. Be careful to be "HAPPY" and work on your happiness wherever you maybe, so that when your plane lands in "The Land of Smiles" you have had a smile on your face for a sometime. Thailand is not a magical cure for unhappiness. Quote
Guest Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I find that people who are happy in one country tend to be happy anywhere....sometimes a little more some times a little less. Thank you. I think you really did summarize my thoughts very well. I tend to be happy each place I go and have rarely found a place that I can't be happy. Well, except anywhere very cold like Siberia. Loved your entire statement. Thanks. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Soi10Tom and GayThailand, you are missing the point. This dissatisfaction is something we all share. Here is the real point: And I don't need your psychoanalysis! Even when I was on SGT I never had to sustain this level of attack. You two must be renegades from there. I am through with this forum. GOODBYE! Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Well, except anywhere very cold like Siberia. No happiness in Siberia? Damn! There goes my holiday plans . . . Quote

GOODBYE! Thaiworthy, I guess I am missing the point as I was NOT referring to you. I was talking in general. Happiness is easily obtained and a change of locals doesn't really make one more or less happy for the long term. I find I am over-happy at times in Thailand but I find the same things in Brazil, Paris, USA, etc. Of all the people on earth, I will NEVER psychoanalyze you or anyone else. My therapist says that I need to work on myself first and then try to save the world. No happiness in Siberia? Damn! There goes my holiday plans . . . Tell you what Gaybutton, since I love you so much, I will go with you to Siberia. What dates did you have in mind? BTW: I get cold very easy and hope you don't mind cuddling. Quote

Should have lots of opportunities to cuddle...just to stay alive!!!! Quote

Gaybutton Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I think that mid January would be an excellent time for you two to visit Siberia!! Ok, we'll go in mid January. Talk about getting cold-cocked! Maybe we'll open a go-go bar there. That way the boys will have an excuse to get on the stage and just stand there. They'll be frozen solid. That, alone, will remind us of most of the go-go boys in Pattaya . . . Quote
Bob Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Talk about getting cold-cocked! Hmmm.....I'm very hopeful that nobody starts asking who's the king and who's the queen. I don't wanna know! Quote

Bob Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Could it just be two Queens!!!! Probably doesn't matter. In that frigid Siberian weather, they'll both look like third graders anyway. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 they'll both look like third graders anyway. In my unfortunate case I don't have to wait for Siberia. I already do . . . Quote
Guest laurence Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Soi10Tom and GayThailand, you are missing the point. This dissatisfaction is something we all share. Thaiworthy, I did not take anything said by others as a personal attack upon you. But I see your point about the US and basically agree with you. I deal with the same sort of reaction from my gay friends in the US regarding their conceptions of Thais. In their view anyone consorting with a young boy is a perv. But to them anyone younger than 30 yo is a young boy!! I believe the truth is, is that they are envious they cannot enjoy the same type of companionship. In other words I can get all the sex I want and they can't get anything. Would I want to bring my bf to the US? No. Quote
Guest thaiworthy Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Hello again. I have received 4 private mails from posters in this thread who encouraged me not to leave. I have reconsidered my reaction and regret the things I've said about the Soi10Tom and GayThailand. It was over the top as I can sometimes be a very emotional person. And yes, it did strike a nerve. This is a broken world. I don't know how to fix homophobic attitudes so my first reaction is disgust. But one can't live with that, I know that now. It is a rather happy world when maintained by the right perspective. I love Thailand. And I do love the country I was born in. Somehow, someway there will be harmony between the two long after I leave here, if and when I come to visit with the boyfriend. I cannot plan that far in the future as I have since been told I need to live more in the present. I appreciate the help I received with netbook computers and ATM cards and savings accounts. But my real niche is humor and I have had a reasonable amount of success with that on gaytingtong. I don't know what I expected to find here, but honesty and candor on a gay Thailand forum is never easy. Enough said. Let's move on . . . Siberia awaits. --Thaiworthy Quote
Bob Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Glad to have you back (but I'm still at a loss to figure out what anybody said that would piss off most people). Like you said, water under the dam so let's move on. Quote
PattayaMale Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 I enjoy the Gay Ting Tong site too. I particularly enjoy the you tube video links that are posted at times. Quote
