Guest xstreamlove Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Hi, It has been a while since I posted on here but hope all you lucky guys who get to live in the land of smiles are doing well. I will finally be back in the land of smiles in 2 weeks and wanted to offer too those that cant find certain items there that you might really need from here in the USA. (Please keep it simple and small) I don’t want to carry too much but I am willing to help you out if I can. This really goes out to Gaybutton who really helped me out with his information and guidance when I made my very first trip there. Your kindness has never been forgotten and maybe this time we can meet for a laugh and drink. Also this goes out to gaythailand who was helpful to me also, I am coming from NYC and if you need anything let me know. Times are hard here in the USA and hope you would all take the time to smell the roses in the land of smiles. I work here in an orphanage and the numbers are up as times get harder and it really gives you a real dose of reality when you look through the eyes of a child who has no one. So please be nice to your fellow farangs and the people of Thailand because we can get complacent with how lucky we are at times . I will be staying at the new hotel The Venue as I like to give a new farang owner a chance to succeed and it looks really nice and you can't beat the price. I see so many negative comments on these boards when someone tries to open a business there and can't understand why. Maybe some day when I can retire there in paradise I will understand, but then again I think I would be able to find a million other enjoyable things to do there other than that. Its been a few years since I was are there any changes I should be aware of ? Certain bars or areas that one should avoid? What are the top bars and restaurants ? How are the beaches and water as far as being clean? Well hope you are all doing well and let me know if there is anything small you might need from here in the USA as I will be there on June 4th. hope to see you there. Quote
Bob Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Its been a few years since I was are there any changes I should be aware of ? Certain bars or areas that one should avoid? What are the top bars and restaurants ? How are the beaches and water as far as being clean? I can't help you with the bars as I haven't been in the bars in Pattaya or Bangkok for years. Just do some searching of prior posts on the various boards as there is a lot of information there (of course, like you intimated, a lot of one's enjoyment of a given venue depends on one's attitude going into it - and it sounds like you'll have fun wherever you go). For beaches, I always thought the waters around Pattaya (with the exception of Koh Larn) were pretty dicey; yet, if you really don't care to swim, going to Dongtan Beach provides you with a lot of eye candy. For swimming, boarding, or whatever, you'll find excellent beaches in Phuket, Hua Hin, Cha-am, and probably many other places. Have fun and don't do anything I wouldn't do (that gives you ample latitude....). Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 Xstreamlove,You sound like a very caring person,i hope you a have really good time. I will be there in late June so I will miss you. As you are staying at The Venue,be sure to write a review for all of us,im sure it would be a positive one. A great boy bar is opposite the Venue called Rock Hard Boys run by a NYC guy Mitchell,he s a friendly guy once he gets to know you. Theres a few go go bars in Sunee Plaza who i noticed on my last visit to have underaged boys. This is up to you,and I will not judge anyone, but I prefer now due to recent events, to look at I.D of the guy you wish to take so that he is 18yo,rather than get any nasty surprises whilst in Thailand or a knock on the door when your back in your own country,as has happened in the last few months in different parts of the world,Australia,Sweden,U.K. Depending on what rocks your boat,Boyztown is mostly "manly" type guys,Jomtiem has a mix of ladyboys, versatile and straight manly types. A baht bus ride 20 baht will take you from jomtiem to boyztown. Sunee Plaza is mixed as well with a lot of beer bars. Krazy Dragon go go is well run in Sunee Plaza but you will find your own special bars, just relax take your time and enjoy. Im sure everyone on here will help if you have any thing you are unsure of whilst in Pattaya. Anyone else have advice? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 A baht bus ride 20 baht will take you from jomtiem to boyztown. The baht bus fare to/from Boyztown/Jomtien is 10 baht. Don't be taken in to pay more. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 I must admit i feel rather stingy paying 10 baht. The moto cycle drivers used to charge me 50 b,jomtiem complex to sunee. Quote

You're feeling stingy because you're applying western standards to your concept of what things ought to cost in Thailand. It just doesn't work that way. Actually, I think people are making a mistake by paying more than standard fare because it encourages the drivers to try to cheat farang. That, by the way, also goes for the motorcycle taxis. Jomtien Complex to Sunee Plaza on a motorcycle taxi shouldn't be more than 30 baht, 40 at the most. If you wish to pay more than standard, by all means do so, but when giving the driver the extra money I suggest saying to him "Tip for you" so that he'll realize you do know the standard fare, but you wish to be generous with him. Guest aot87 Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Regarding what gaybutton has said about the motor bike taxis from boystown/sunnie plaza to jomtiem , i have always been asked for 50 bht for the last few yrs, so I now consider it the going rate Quote

Guest xstreamlove Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Well not quite the reviews I was hoping for but thanks to those guys who tried to help/ I am not really worried about 10 baht savings but was more interested in the bar scenes and beach conditions. I am not looking for underage guys but thanks for the warning that is something I am very careful of and they are not really my cup of tea. Also the Venue checks the boys cards if you have a guest visit your room and this is something I want from a hotel I stay at for my safety and the hotels. I would really like to know what bars are hot right now and how the beaches are. If someone could help there I would appreciate that a lot. I would also like to here gay buttons reviews on some restaurants that I could eat at that might be enjoyable. Thank you all for your help I must say I was a little disappointed that I got no response from either gay buttons or gay Thailand on my offers or any advice from them. Quote
