Gaybutton Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Note: I believe one of the names may be familiar to a number of you. For that reason I remind you that at this point these are allegations and nobody has been found guilty of anything. 3 Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of Young Boys 5/12/2009 The Associated Press (AP) — BANGKOK - Two Swedish men and one British man were arrested Tuesday at a Thai beach resort town for alleged sexual abuse of young boys, police said. Police Maj. Gen. Chaiwat Ketworrachai said the men were arrested at their homes in Pattaya, 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of Bangkok, and were charged with sexually abusing children under the age of 15. He identified the suspects as Briton George Stanley Gibbs, 67, and Swedes Karl Erik Berglund, 60, and Lars Anders Ellerman, 65. Police did not release their hometowns. "We cannot give more detail before the cases are filed to the prosecutors," Chaiwat said, adding police confiscated sex toys, still and video cameras, computers and a nude album of young boys. If found guilty, the men could face up to 20 years in jail. Several Southeast Asian countries-including Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam-are popular with pedophiles because of lax law enforcement, corruption in the justice system, and poverty that forces children into prostitution. A number of high-profile suspects have been caught in Thailand, including a Canadian arrested in 2007 after an Interpol manhunt sparked by some 200 Internet photos showing him allegedly abusing Vietnamese and Cambodian boys. He was sentenced to eight years and three months in jail. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 13, 2009 Author Posted May 13, 2009 The following appears in THE NATION: _____ Thailand Nabs Three Europeans after Paedophile Tip Thai police on Tuesday arrested three European tourists, all in their 60s, on charges of sexually abusing minors at a beach resort. The suspects were rounded up in Pattaya, 100 kilometres south-east of Bangkok, after Thai police were tipped off by Interpol about a Swedish child sex tour to the beach resort, notorious for its sleazy entertainment scene. The men arrested were Swedish nationals Karl Erik Berglund, 60, and Lars Anders Ellerman, 65, and British national George Stanley Gibbs, 67. "These men have abused many children in the Pattaya area," said Police Major General Chaiwat Gaetworachai, head of Thailand's Child Protection Division. He acknowledged that several of the men on the sex tour had evaded arrest. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 And it was only several months ago ,Australian undercover police swooped on an Australian ex bar owner outside the Pattaya Hospital, and then arrested his friends in Australia, who i hear are yet to await trial. However I am fully supportive of this, and its obvious there are "expats" in the gay community who are undercover federal agents. There goal is to remove those who belong to a group who are not really homosexual, but try to pretend they are,and some of these are married men who come to Thailand seeking boys. Now they (undercover agents)are getting smarter and gathering the evidence on you and waiting till you get back to your home country and even waiting months before they do anything when you are back. I do have sympathy for these men who have a fetish for this kind of thing.A little sympathy I dont know how you can change a person who wants to have sex with a 8yo boy, refer to recent arrest of the British rail worker 2 months ago. The thing is you will never know who they are,(interpol agents acting as expats)they could be American, they could be gay,but they are there to do a job at putting an end to those who like to march under the gay banner when in reality they should be looking at seeking help instead of making excuses that its ok to abuse those who are not old enough to be an adult. I dont know how they are gathering the evidence, but it seems many numbers will be coming up. If you are gay you have nothing to worry about. Quote
Rogie Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 If you are gay you have nothing to worry about. I sense you are saying that in order to provoke a response, so here goes: Yes, the individual gay man has little to fear. I know you have drawn a clear distinction between homosexual men and paedophiles and I would hope all readers of this message board are in accord with you. However, it is the way these arrests are reported, they are very high profile and the man or men who have committed the alleged offense(s) are, by dint of the fact the minors involved were boys, at least in the popular imagination, gay men. It is easy for those with an anti-gay agenda to capitalise on this. That makes it awkward for the likes of us. KhorTose 1 Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 Undercover agents? I doubt it. Every so often I'll read a news item about a Thai plain clothes police officer in a bar, but they're not in the bar to check farang. They're in the bar to check on any illegal activities in which the the bar might be involved. I'll repeat what I've said many times. I have never heard of a farang arrest for taking an under-age boy off from a bar. The only arrests I ever hear about stem from farang taking neighborhood boys home with them. The same holds true in this case, based on my interpretation of the articles. They don't say what led to the arrests, but it seems clear to me that these men were not taking boys from bars. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Another item that seems to be common to nearly all of the arrests....sex with a boy UNDER 15. Not 17, or 16 or even 15...but UNDER 15. Major change in the law and increase in penalty when the child is under 15. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Undercover agents? I doubt it. May 12th The Pattaya arrests were part of a joint investigation, codenamed “Snapper”, carried out by the Royal Thai police and the Scandinavian and European authorities. The police said the suspects had been under surveillance . Undercover agents? I doubt it. And March 20th A Sydney man accused of being part of an international child sex tourism ring has faced court charged with sex offences against a Thai teenager. David Anthony Hudson, 40, from Russell Lea, is one of three men charged with alleged child sex offences uncovered during a joint operation involving Thai, Australian and British authorities. Hudson and a 23-year-old Eastwood man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were arrested by Australian Federal Police (AFP) after raids on their Sydney homes on Thursday.Hudson appeared in Sydney's Central Local Court on two counts of committing an act of indecency last year on a 14-year-old in Pattaya, Thailand, and one count of possessing child pornography. The two will face charges of child sex tourism. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 I hope the undercover agents look like Matt Damon from the movie The Departed. Quote
Guest Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Did anyone see the recent documentary about Pattaya and Soi Sunee Plaza? I watched it and thought it was a very misguided piece in that it seemed like those that were doing the arrests were bumbling around like little twats. Quote
Guest HeyGay Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 The story was on UK TV http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-New ... ach_Resort Quote
Guest FatRichard Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I had dinner with a friend from the UK recently and while we were talking about some of the more 'interesting' characters that have passed through Sunee Plaza and Pattaya, he asked me whether I knew what happened to George Stanley Gibbs. I said I didn't and I vaguely remembered the case as it were. He led me to the story as reported below. Apparently George had a history of sexually abusing children that goes back forty years - including one at gun point - and is now serving life in prison in the UK. I remember he had a some very good friends from the gay Thailand forums who staunchly defended his innocence. The things he has done are too repulsive to repeat so I'll just leave you with the links. Unnnbelievable, you couldn't make this stuff up! http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/predatory-paedophile-george-gibbs-jailed-7405248 http://www.andrew-drummond.com/2014/07/briton-who-abused-boy-at-point-of-gun.html Quote
williewillie Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 George denied everything. He found out he had no friends when he pleaded for financial help while in the monkey house in Thailand, and nobody helped him. The begging was sad but to no avail. Often, one can pay off and get out of the monkey house, but without money, you sit there for years. George was very active on the gay Thailand forums years ago and was not a nice guy. He also had an interest in a Pattaya boy bar, All Boys, which one might say was like putting a fox in charge of a hen house. George tried to buy SawatdeeGT from Neal, as I recall. Quote
