Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 As of June 1st, BBC Entertainment channel will be dropped from True Visions. I called for an explanation and was told that the contract was up and it would be replaced with AXN Beyond by popular demand. What populace demanded it I don't know. I surely wasn't polled. BBC Entertainment has many programs that I enjoy. I looked up AXN Beyond and found nothing I would be interested to watch. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 Replaced with AXN Beyond? Excuse my ignorance, but is AXN bEYOND a current affairs program? Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Replaced with AXN Beyond? Excuse my ignorance, but is AXN bEYOND a current affairs program? No, it has mostly drama shows. You can check it out on the web. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 was told that the contract was up and it would be replaced with AXN Beyond by popular demand The "popular demand" bit is nonsense! The fact is that BBC Entertainment has increased its subscription fee to rebroadcasters and True has refused to pay it. Public demand had nothing to do with it. I assume AXN Beyond is considerably cheaper. I do not pay the extra for the Platinum package and so am not affected by the change. However, I do believe True is now using its monopoly on paid cable/satellite channels in the country to the detriment of viewers. When cable was in its infancy here, there were 2 broadcasters and a degree of competition. Since they merged about 10 years ago, we're stuck with just True. I assume politicians' personal business interests will mean there's no chance of ever again getting a second one. Quote

As long as the right person's brother-in-law is getting rich, you're probably correct. That seems to be the way just about everything works in Thailand. Quote

The problem is I like Star World and it is only available with Platinum or Silver packages. Quote
Guest shebavon Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 If only they could replace FOX with MSNBC. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 If only they could replace FOX with MSNBC. If only they could replace Bill O'Reilly with anybody. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Out here in Satillite land, we don't get FOX or MSNBC. You can have CNN International, BBC, or business channels Bloomberg or CNBC International Business. I get all the podcast from MSNBC to get my politcial "fix" as often as available. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 If only they could replace FOX with MSNBC. No Fox or Bill Riley on True Visions. HURRAH!!!!! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Out here in Satillite land, we don't get FOX or MSNBC Whaddayamean "out here"?? In the metropolis of Bangkok most of us are stuck with the satellite signal, which at this time of year drops out when every major rainstorm comes along. I reckon we should all be getting rebates for the all that loss of signal. Quote
Guest Soi10Tom Posted May 12, 2009 Posted May 12, 2009 Try this. Have a friend back home, where ever home may be, buy a "Sling Box" for $200 to $300US, hook it to their cable or satalite feed back home, plug it into their Internet connection, and you watch your home town TV anywhere in the world over the Internet. You can even view everything right on you TV in Thailand by just running a hard wire from you computer to your TV. http://www.slingmedia.com/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slingbox Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 The problem I have with that, is that my computer and sling box must both be at the US site to get started..so I am told...and that this can cause heavy traffic on the friends computer??? Quote
Guest Soi10Tom Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 This is quoted from Wikopedia. Quoted from Wikopedia: "A Slingbox can redirect one of its inputs to a single computer located on a local network or remotely, when using a broadband Internet connection, anywhere in the world. To avoid copyright infringement, only one user can access the stream from a Slingbox at a time. This way of accessing content is known as placeshifting. "A Slingbox connects a TV source (via coaxial cable, composite cables, component cables, or S-video cable) to an existing Internet connection. Digital video recorders and cable or satellite set top boxes can be controlled through a separate infrared (IR) cable that lets users change channels from the remote location. Software on a user's computer or mobile device connects to the Slingbox and provides the user interface for viewing the video stream and changing channels. Onscreen virtual remote controls are provided for controlling almost all connected devices. Note that all control inputs are done in the SlingPlayer window via computer mouse. There is no provision for use of hardware IR remote control units while watching SlingPlayer even if the PC has an IR receiver." Your computer needs to be with you, not in the USA or with the Sling Box. Although it may slow down your friends Internet connection because of the time difference he would be sleeping or at work most of the time that you are using the Sling Box. If not it would be cheap enough to upgrade your friends Internet service to the best available. Quote

Guest Patexpat Posted May 13, 2009 Posted May 13, 2009 Sophon has MNET which is from S. Africa. Thanks but Sophon don't have BBCE ... there is a payable satellite service whereby you can get BBCE South Africa, and BBC Lifestyle, and a host of other stuff ... downside is that transmission times suit the SA time zone not Thailand ... but a DVD recorder can sort that! SO anyone know a company in Patters? Quote
