Guest taylorsquare Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 I see a new luxrious hotel has opened up in the old Bondi hotel site. Unfortanetely, whilst i would love to stay there my budget will not let me. 1290 baht is the cheapest room. Whilst they dont have pics of rooms on their website,it certainly looks to be nice. I am jealous of you who will be able to afford to stay there, but sometimes i just prefer a simple room,as long as its clean and tidy and a comfy bed. Anyhow i wish them luck,i would imagine its not only the gay market they are after, however oddly their cabaret seems to be more for a gay crowd. I think its fantastic that someone has rejuvenated this area. Quote

Guest taylorsquare Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Do you think there will be a market for it? I dont think theres many high end hotels in that area,....except the Poisendon? Quote
Guest kotter Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Do you think there will be a market for it? I dont think theres many high end hotels in that area,....except the Poisendon? Taylorsquare, I think that if you go to the site and look under 'rates' it shows a promo price until much later in the year at 999 baht plus an upgrade if there is one available at the time of check in. Worth a look. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 We just came past The Venue and it is open. Quote

It's been said, "Build it and they will come." There were many doubters on this website who questioned the wisdom of Punya opening the sauna. Quote
Guest taylorsquare Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 well 999/1000 baht seems very reasonable. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 well 999/1000 baht seems very reasonable. 1000 baht is very reasonable, but 1290 is way out of budget? There isn't much difference in those prices. Quote
Guest Oogleman Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 apparently the drink prices are very reasonable. Quote
Guest aot87 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 What about an up to date web site with pics of the bed rooms etc? Quote
Guest kcampb49 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 The Venue had a "soft opening" last night for the shows. Doors opened at 8:30 and the first of three shows began at 9:30. I stayed for the first show which was well done for a first time. A nice size crowd was there, drinks were reasonable, many cute servers, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I'm not sure when the "hard opening" is scheduled. Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I'm not sure when the "hard opening" is scheduled. I suppose that would depend on how sexy the show is . . . Can you fill us in with a bit more detail? How much did you pay for drinks? Can the staff be taken off? If yes, how much is the off fee? Is it air conditioned? Is the air conditioning adequate? Are they forbidding smoking? What about the show? How long is the show? What time is the show? Can you describe the show? I'm hoping it's not primarily the usual boys-in-drag and lip synch show. I hope it's something truly new and different. What goes on before and after the show? Is it a go-go bar, a host bar, or what? Quote
Guest skeet45 Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 GB with that many questions maybe you should just go and check it out for your self Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 GB with that many questions maybe you should just go and check it out for your self Why, what a clever suggestion. Why didn't I think of that? Of course! Go and check it out for myself. Maybe I will, but since kcampb49 has already been there, somehow I think he won't mind taking the three minutes it will take him to address the questions I asked, assuming he has any of the answers. You're assuming I have the time to get there any time soon. You're also assuming I'm even in Pattaya right now, to be able to check it out. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Doors opened at 8:30 and the first of three shows began at 9:30. I stayed for the first show which was well done for a first time Any thoughts on how noisy the bar is during the shows, kcampb49? I assume the 'residence' is above the bar. If the bar is pretty noisy, then much of that noise is going to filter upstairs. And if the first show is at 9:30, when does the last one end? I realise most of those staying will be late-night owls, but for those who aren't, it's better to know what you might be in for before you book. Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 I was also at the successful first night and chatted with the owners. To answer some questions: 1. it is NOT a host bar. It's a showbar. What the staff do after they finish work is up to them. 2. drink prices are reasonable 80-120, but cheaper in daytime/early evening 3. has aircon but also the whole front can be opened up to suit time of day, weather etc. 4. I only saw people smoking on the outside terrace 5. there are three shows approx every hour from 9:30 each about 20 minutes long 6. snacks/light meals are available too 7. can't comment on how quiet the rooms are but 8 there is a lift to all floors have I missed anything? Guest Oogleman Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 From another forum: by GWM_IN_THAILAND on Thu Apr 30, 2009 5:59 am I had the pleasure of attending the "Soft Opening" last night and walked away impressed! Doors opened at 8:30pm and upon entering The Venue, the pre-cooled air conditioning was extremely welcome as April is the cruelest month in Thailand. The nightclub is of a comfortable size allowing for a good sized audience yet not feeling cavernous. Decor is modern (chrome & glass) and the club is well lit . Tables and chairs were well spaced and I never felt cramped Pre-show music levels were comfortable allowing patrons to carry on conversations without shouting plus the music selection was up tempo 60's & 70's (they obviously know their key demographic). Ray Cornell, the owner made a point of stopping by every table and was the genial host (he even sang nicely later in the evening!). Lots of familiar faces amongst the waiter staff who all were working hard to keep drinks and tabs flowing (not an easy thing to do first night!) As noted in the previous post, drink prices were very reasonable. I stuck with orange juice (I'd had enough Beer during happy hour) and was pleased when the check bin arrived and it was only 60 baht each! The show started just before 9:30 and was well costumed and choreographed. The boys threw themselves into the production numbers with style, atheticism and gusto. Obviously a lot of work went into rehearsal. In a very smart move, the shows (there are three different ones a night) are only about 15 minutes in length. This allows the performers to "give their all" for three short sprints as opposed to one long marathon and, of course allows the waiters more opportunity to sell drinks between segments as patrons are more likely to stick around longer knowing the next show is only 30-45 minutes away. Only negative I found was there were some sight line issues due to ceiling to floor columns (I assume the are a structural necessity). That is but a minor quibble. All in all, a delightful evening that I shall repeat often. These days there are more and more reason's to hop a baht bus down to Jomtien Complex for the evening and THE VENUE certainly is at the top of the list. Quote

Would add to Patexpat that as I understand it noise insulation has been applied to stop any unwanted noise reaching tthe upper levels. Tonight with a good crowd the show was finished at 11.45, so unless you are a really early sleeper you would have no concerns. Draught Heinekin at 85 baht. Gin and Tonic 95 baht etc. Good after the beach place to have a drink. Prices lower still!! Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 have I missed anything? Only one thing. The nature of the show. Is it the typical kind of bar show we see in Pattaya, featuring lady-boys in drag and lip synching, or is the show really something new and different? Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 The show is well rehearsed and the dancers perform well, it does have lypsync and some ladyboy dancers too but is done to a high standard. I suspect the show is a 'work in progress' so lets see what happens by the time the formal opening happens on 3rd June, but all in all an enjoyable experience. Quote
Gaybutton Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 it does have lypsync and some ladyboy dancers too but is done to a high standard. Oh well, let me know how you like it. Lady-boys and lip synch tells me all I need to know to keep me away, no matter how well done the show might be. For me it's a "been there, done that" and with most such shows I wish I had never been there and had never done that. Of course, that's just me. Obviously plenty of people like those kinds of shows or the bars wouldn't present them. Based on what you say, the show is well done, but nothing essentially new and different from just about every bar show in town. Quote
