Guest GaySacGuy Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 The sources said the woman returned from Mexico early this month and became ill. She was admitted to the hospital Tuesday OK...returned early this month and to hopital today, Tuesday. I am no expert on the incubation period of this flu, but I think there is too much time from exposure to sickness??? Maybe not, but she might have reacted to the fact she was sick and came from Mexico?? Only time will tell...we can hope!! Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 Undoubtedly the panic we have started to see in various parts of the world is going to increase - probably exponentially. So, amidst all the rumour and concern, it's perhaps important to realise that most people just do not know what they are talking about because this strain of 'flu is so new. The BBC website has a number of medical views. Here are two which put it into some persepctive. The professor clearly makes the point that the effects of swine 'flu are not nearly as bad as those of bird 'flu. We all got through the last bird 'flu scare without too many deaths. Hopefully, we'll be as lucky this time around - maybe! PROFESSOR JOHN OXFORD, VIROLOGY EXPERT AT ST. BARTHOLEMEW'S HOSPITAL AND THE LONDON HOSPITAL If the avian flu H5N1 virus had spread from human to human like this then I would be extremely worried. It would be top of my Richter scale. But this swine flu worries me less because as a population we have a basic immunity to H1N1. Outside of Mexico there have been no deaths, so it doesn't seem so aggressive. And not only are we coming up to the summer, which makes it less likely for these viruses to spread as well, but Britain has enough antiviral drugs for half of the population. So we should not panic in any way. This does not look as though it is going to be a virus that sweeps the world and causes huge mortality. DR ALAN MACNALLY, MOLECULAR BIOLOGY EXPERT AT NOTTINGHAM TRENT UNIVERSITY I still think we are a day or so away from knowing what the threat is. WHO has gone to stage four, so we know there will be an epidemic stemming from direct contact with these cases in Mexico. We will see more cases. But we will have to wait to see how it spreads to know if there will be a pandemic that sweeps nations. The key thing is how lethal a virus is it. Outside of Mexico it has not caused any deaths, which is good news. And we are prepared for it. We should have a complete picture in the next five to seven days to answer these questions. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted April 28, 2009 Posted April 28, 2009 There is an excellent article on MSNBC's website. The headline is Swine flu spreads to Asia, Middle East Cases confirmed in New Zealand, Israel after officials raise alert level The whoe article is http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30398682/ It is very informative and tells about the various levels, and what is being done around the world. Guest GaySacGuy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 The cost for the drugs used for this flu are going upward very fast: Tamiflu 10 pills Sunday $70 Monday $104.99 Tuesday Drug expiration 10/09 $99.99 2010+ 149.99 Tamiflu 30 pills same info as above $240 $299.99 $299.99 $449.99 Relenza Five pill rotodisk (1 dose) Mon $104.99 Tues. Now $174.99 Three rotodisk (3 dose) Mon $314.99 Tues Now $524.99 The relenza is up a whopping $210 for three doses in one day. The bad part is that it is probably going higher, and may get to the point that it is unavailable. Go Figure!! Has anyone priced these in Thailand??? This is from Drugdelivery.ca, which delivers worldwide from several different pharmacies. Nothing like jacking the price...Today, Wednesday Tamiful 10 doses 10/2009 exp. $149.99 2010+ $199.99 30 doses $449.99 $599.99 Relenze 1 disk $199.99 3 disk $599.99 So, since Sunday, Tamiflu prices have more than doubled in two days. Is that price gouging. Here is what there note say: "We are selling Tamiflu and Relenza faster than ever before. It is getting VERY HARD to source these products as we are competition with governments world wide. If you do not have an emergency supply for your family yet, we can not stress enough the importance of acquiring some NOW. We do not care where you get it from, just get it" Quote
atri1666 Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 Here in germany still very cheap with prescription for 5€ and with privat prescription for around 37€ for 10 pills Quote

Governments worldwide have been building their stockpiles of Tamiflu for well over 3 years. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted April 29, 2009 Posted April 29, 2009 There has now been at least one death in the US. And this from the World Health Organization: GENEVA — The World Health Organization has raised its pandemic alert for swine flu to the second highest level, meaning that it believes a global outbreak of the disease is imminent. WHO says the phase 5 alert means there is sustained human to human spread in at least two countries. It also signals that efforts to produce a vaccine will be ramped up. WHO has confirmed human cases of swine flu in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Britain, Israel, New Zealand and Spain. Mexico and the U.S. have reported deaths. WHO Director-General Margaret Chan made the decision Wednesday to raise the alert level from phase 4 _ signifying transmission in only one country _ after reviewing the latest scientific evidence on the outbreak. Guest GaySacGuy Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 This pretty much takes the prize. The WHO told Mexico on March 18 that they had confirmed case of swine flu, but they waited one month before doing anything!!! How about WHO telling a few other people and the media?? Maybe much of this could have been prevented. This is from a Newsweek Article from MSNBC's website:: Manuel Camacho Solís went home last week feeling intensely ill and struggling to breathe. Hours later, he went to the emergency room of a private hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. Several tests later, the news got worse: the former mayor of Mexico City was suffering from swine flu. Camacho was not alone. The same day that his virus was confirmed, the Mexican government announced that 18 of its citizens had died of this particular flu, closed the nation's schools and asked scientists around the world for help in preventing a pandemic. As cases of swine flu—and fear of the virus—move across global borders, Mexico now also faces political and economic fallout from the health crisis. Some residents are questioning whether the government should have started taking preventive measures sooner, when the World Health Organization (WHO) first informed authorities of confirmed swine flu cases in Mexico City, on March 18. Others fear the impact the outbreak will have on their recession-hit economy as foreign tourists cancel trips and businesses are forced to cut back on their operations.
