PattayaMale Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Yesterday, Wednesday, my Thai friend and I went out to eat at Cherry's Restaurant on Third Road. We haven't been there in a long time and so we were surprised that they had a buffet laid out. You could have the buffet or the regular menu. The buffet is only 295 and included salad bar, appetizers such as medium shrimp on toast, spring roles, quiche, chicken wings, cold cuts such as ham, roast beef and other. The main dishes were 4 different fish dishes including salmon, battered cod, white fish in white sauce, and grilled fish, beef fillet, beef stuffed with cheese, beef in wine sauce, thinly sliced roast beef, lamb served with mint sauce (sauce on the side), pork medallions in mushroom sauce, pork stuffed with spinach, chicken in a white sauce, mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, spaghetti with four different sauces, fried rice and I am sure I have forgotten some dishes. Desert section had fresh fruit, caramel flan, teramisu (sp?), and several other items. I am not sure because I was so full I did not want any more. Maybe this was reported before but I missed it. The food was great! Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Were you able to determine if this is something they're doing daily or just on certain nights? Quote

Guest pingalicker Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Thank you Pattayamale for the report on Cherry's, it's on my "things to do" list for my next trip. Coming from the LAND of buffets (Las Vegas) I'm always up for a good stuffing. I love the White Night buffet and dine there often when in Pattaya. This will be a welcome addition for Farang food for me, although most often I'm eating Thai. Do you know the nearest cross soi on 3rd road to Cherry's? Or simple directions or landmarks. Thank you. Gaybutton Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Or simple directions or landmarks. Thank you. Directly across the street from the X-yte Disco on Third Road, Soi 18. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 I have been confused about Cherry's. Awhile back it was posted that they had moved. I have been past there many times and the Cherry's sign is still there, but it seems to be less popular than before. Can anyone enlighten me? Quote

Cherry's did move but just about 4 or 5 shops down from where it originally was. Thats why it looks to you like its still there. john Quote

PattayaMale Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 Cherry's did move a little bit north (maybe 20 meters). If you look for the first entrance to Xzyte Disco, Cherry's is on the opposite side of the street. There is a small soi between Cherry's and Villa Mama which leads to a small parking lot. Actually it is still very busy and packed for the buffet. The main dinning room is in the back of the restaurant so even though it has an entrance on Third Road, you will not see the main dinning area from Third Street. (between South and Central Pattaya road but closer to Central Pattaya) PINGALICKER: My Thai friend and I will be visiting Las Vegas (his first trip). Maybe you would PM me and be so nice as to give us some eating tips (I looked at www.cheapovegas.com) Thanks Quote

Guest DanT Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I have noticed reading this board over the past several months that the people who post about food rarely know what they are talking about. I decided to post when someone started to compare the buffet at Cherry's or White Night to the kinds of great buffets you get in the world capital of buffets, Las Vegas. It's like comparing one of those awful Thai/Cambodian border casions to any of the lavish LV casinos/hotels. They just aren't on the same plane. I stopped going to Cherry's a long time ago when the original restaurant expanded into the big mess that it is now. The food is close to inedible and the service tries to match it. The fact that it's so cheap doe not make up for the obvious lack in quality. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I decided to post when someone started to compare the buffet at Cherry's or White Night to the kinds of great buffets you get in the world capital of buffets, Las Vegas I have never been to Cherry's or White Night. I tend to agree that at those prices you can never get excellent quality unless the restaurant severely limits the number of dishes for each course. Yet, Thailand does have some great buffets that do indeed compare to Las Vegas. Go to the Sunday brunch at The Sukhothai or the daily buffets in the Royal Orchid Sheraton in Bangkok. Not only can you can generally eat enough for a week, the quality and variety is usually superb - although I am not sure how the prices now compare with LV. One problem I have with buffets is that hot dishes, especially those with sauces, inevitably deteriorate quite quickly when over a flame to be kept warm. I have never yet found a restaurant that is able to overcome this. Quote

I have never yet found a restaurant that is able to overcome this. This kind of problem would rarely exist in Las Vegas because of the huge turnover they get for these buffets. Nothing is left to deteriorate quickly. The price also cannot be compared to Thailand, because in the casinos in Las Vegas, the cost is supplemented by gambling revenue. Even if you're not in the mood for a buffet, there are those 99 cent foot-long hotdogs, shrimp cocktails, and strawberry shortcake. You think they're really making a profit on those? They use every trick in the book to get you to come into the casino. Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 They use every trick in the book to get you to come into the casino. This is all fascinating, but I remind everyone this thread is about the buffet at Cherry's, not buffets in Las Vegas. If you would like to talk about Las Vegas buffets, the 'Beer Bar' forum is the appropriate place to do it. Quote

PattayaMale Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Ok, what can you tell us about the buffet at Cherry's john There is no comparison between White Night and Cherry's. Cherry's food in my opinion is very good. I am not saying White Night's is not good. Just try them both and decide which one you prefer, if at all. Quote
Guest TOQ Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Just try them both I don't need to try them both. I don't like White Night at all and have found Cherry's food to be just fine each time I have gone. Consistency is good, you know what you are going to get. john Quote

Guest TOQ Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 So you HAVE tried them both? As a comparison no. I should have reworded that. I went to White Night once before it changed hands and once after. I don't like it. Food is always cold.. You like cold quiche ? Under the new owners when I went the buffet serving area was very messy and the same serving spoons and forks were being used for multiple dishes. No thank you. john Quote

No thank you. john I tried once in march and i can confirm the food was mostly cold. Boys and waiters have more problems with looking in mirrors and make up and not to care about the buffet. The quiche was absolutely cold. It was the first and also the last visit - for buffet i prefer more casa pascal or the Marriot ( already the breakfast buffet has more to offer than White Night). Gaybutton Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 for buffet I prefer more Casa Pascal or the Marriott ( already the breakfast buffet has more to offer than White Night). I can certainly understand the preference, but don't forget that the prices are somewhat different from what you pay at the White Night, by at least 500 baht. So at the higher end places certainly you're going to get much higher quality food and service, but you're going to pay for it. However, I don't see much of an excuse for crummy service under any circumstances. The boys are hired to provide service, not for admiring themselves in the nearest mirror. For an inexpensive buffet I think the White Night is a very good deal for the price, despite cold quiche and half-hearted service. I don't care for cold quiche either. You know what I do? I don't eat the quiche . . . However, at most restaurants, and I would think the White Night included, the owners do appreciate it if you let them know of any problems or complaints. Quote
