Guest Mark7711 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 As most of you know the krazy Dragon is a No Smoking Bar. I would like to make a small poll on this as I have never asked the customers there opinion Please let me have your comments Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Please let me have your comments I have put a poll in place for you. Isn't it true that smoking in bars is now illegal? I realize that several bars are disregarding the smoking regulations, but I still see no valid reason why smokers, including myself, have to subject non-smokers to their smoke. All a smoker has to do is step outside and light up outdoors. I have never understood why smokers would object to that, unless they feel that it is their privilege to force non-smokers to have to deal with their smoke. Quote
Guest zzrichard Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I am a smoker so I voted yes...but that is not to smoke in the bar, but have a small decent outside area for smokers if room permits. Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I voted yes...but that is not to smoke in the bar, but have a small decent outside area for smokers if room permits. I voted "other," for precisely the same reason. I guess I should have been more clear in the poll that the first two choices were meant to apply to inside the bar. Quote
Guest sabaisabai Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 As a non-smoker, I appreciate GayButtons comments. It is a joy to sit in a bar that is non-smoking. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I voted for no smoking (surprise). Not only is it illegal to smoke indoors, but second hand smoke is , at least, as detrimental to health as smoking. I gave up that nasty habit 33 years ago. Luckily, I don't have any health problems related to the time I did smoke. I know and have known so many who are/were not so lucky. Quote
Guest TOQ Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I know and have known so many who are/were not so lucky. That would be me, one of the unlucky ones. I quit 19 yrs ago, but it was too late, lungs and circulation are shot john Quote
Guest Mark7711 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Over the next few weeks there will be more comfortable seating out side for smokers and some more fans as it get a bit hot when you are sat out side, also a reserved sign will be placed on your table inside to stop other customers taking your seats. Guest fountainhall Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I'm not sure what use a poll of customers is when I have seen several of the boys themselves puffing away inside the bar Quote
Guest Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I am a non smoker but I have never left a bar because of smoke. It doesn't really bother me in that atmosphere. I have always had Thai boyfriends who smoke. They always step outside as a courtesy even and they did so even when the smoking ban was in place (most of them anyway). I would suggest following the guidelines as that will always win over your regular customers in the long run. I enjoy a smoke free joint. But, I would not refuse to go inside one just because smoking was allowed. I have known some who throw fits when smoking takes place anywhere and that is their right. Again, his right as it was also his health. It is also the right of the owner to set policies and let customers decide if they wish to participate in the business. Personally, I hate the smell of smoke when I eat. I will get up and move tables. Mark, you run a good business and I am glad your place seems to follow all the laws. A good comfortable place or smokers is also a nice gesture. I remember back in LA when smoking was not allowed in the disco, they provided a place for smokers. It seemed that is where the hottest boys were and normally where I ended up anyway. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 A good comfortable place or smokers is also a nice gesture As a non-smoker who really disllikes being near someone puffing away on a cigarette, I agree. Personally, I hate the smell of smoke when I eat. I will get up and move tables I find this strange GT when you also say - I have always had Thai boyfriends who smoke. They always step outside as a courtesy I can't work out what the difference is between kissing a guy with smoke on his breath and inhaling it when you eat. Quote
Guest Mark7711 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 The question I suppose is a bit brief I want to know if the customers are happy with the no smoking of cigarettes in side the bar. I will also add that is purely for my curiosity and there will be no change in the policy regardless of the out come, but it will allow me to design a more comfortable area out side and give me a clue to the numbers required for seating out side so please continue to vote. I find this strange GT when you also say - I can't work out what the difference is between kissing a guy with smoke on his breath and inhaling it when you eat. Well, that is easy. I am a foodie. It is precious to me. I like to enjoy every bite. The difference with that an kissing a boy is I have never been with a boy in Thailand more than once that doesn't gargle with Listerine before kissing. I do the same and expect the same for anyone I am with. The smoking does not bother me with BF's and that is up to them. I have always wished they would stop but I am sure they would wish I would stop going to gogo bars as well. I am not giving that up and I doubt they will give up the smoking. That said, the new BF does not smoke, drink or do drugs. When he is in town, I don't go to gogo bars. Luckily, he works a 9-5 job and is only in town infrequently. Quote
Guest Mark7711 Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I'm not sure what use a poll of customers is when I have seen several of the boys themselves puffing away inside the bar I am sorry but you are mistaken there has been NO smoking in the bar for 12 months, there was 1 occasion when a Thai customer lit a cigarette and he was asked to take it out side witch he did straight away with out any complain and apologized when he returned. Quote
PattayaMale Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 Mark, as I understand, smoking will NOT be permitted inside the bar; and as a concerned owner you will be making a comfortable area outside. If that is right I really applaud what you are doing. I enjoy Krazy Dragon. I almost crossed it off my list when I thought you might change your current policy. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I am sorry but you are mistaken there has been NO smoking in the bar for 12 months I'm sorry too, but I was certainly not mistaken. A friend and I saw several boys openly smoking in the area behind the bar on at least two occasions since mid-December. That said, I am also a fan of the bar! Quote
Guest laurence Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Awkward question/poll Mark. How do you permit "no smoking"? But, in the spirit of your question, I enjoy a non-smoking bar to the point I would leave if other patrons were smoking, even if just one person. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Awkward question/poll Mark. How do you permit "no smoking"? I don't see how this is awkward. "What is your preference? No smoking permitted Smoking permitted Other - please specify" Quote
Guest laurence Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I don't see how this is awkward. "What is your preference? No smoking permitted Smoking permitted Other - please specify" Like the lawyer's question, "is it not true'? etc. No matter how you answer you are not right. "No smoking permitted" suggests that "smoking is permitted" Better, Smoking prohibited. Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 "No smoking permitted" suggests that "smoking is permitted" Obviously everybody, including you, knows exactly what it means. You wish to nitpick about it. Go right ahead, but I have an idea that the majority of people reading this are thinking the same thing I am, which is: Who the hell cares? Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 This slight mis-use of the negative is common around Asia. You see it on all sorts of signs and also hear it in announcements. I have heard "no eating and drinking is allowed" in dozens of theatres/concert halls, when the precise english should be "eating and drinking is NOT allowed". But because it is so common, everyone understands it! Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Like the lawyer's question, "is it not true'? etc. No matter how you answer you are not right. "No smoking permitted" suggests that "smoking is permitted" Better, Smoking prohibited. The verb "is" is understood. That means : No smoking is permitted. Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 It was pretty clear to me what the question was...but then I made it through the 3rd grade too!! Quote
Bob Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 "No smoking permitted" suggests that "smoking is permitted" "No smoking permitted", which clearly means that "smoking is not permitted", is perfectly clear and acceptable English. Your thought that the phrase suggests that smoking is permitted is simply in error. Quote
Gaybutton Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 "No smoking permitted", which clearly means that "smoking is not permitted", is perfectly clear and acceptable English. If anything, wouldn't "no smoking permitted" mean you are permitted not to smoke? After all, we wouldn't want anyone putting a gun to our heads and forcing us to light up against our will, now would we? But this little issue may prompt me to create a new list. I already have my "I Don't Get It" list. Now I'm think of starting a "Who the Hell Cares?" list. Quote
