A great less expensive way of seeing the Norwegian coast and fjords is the daily Hurtigruten ferries. Take the amazing train ride from Oslo to Bergen and then stay on the ferry right up past the Arctic Circle to basically the top of the civilised world if you wish. The only problem is that the cabins are very small. But I thoroughly enjoyed my four days November trip some years ago.

Many thanks @Marc in Calif. It's a very scenic part of the world especially at that time of year, despite clouds and occasional mist. I was unable to see the Northern Lights on the ferry due to low cloud in the evening. I had to wait until i got to the far north of Finland before getting some amazing photos.

I refer to them as an appetizer sampler platter....you visit some ports that were nice, but not interested in going more than 1 day,  then you come across Barcelona and decide, this place I must return on land for a longer stay.

I have a younger friend that LOVES the gay cruises and raves. I have ZERO interest in them, He posts tons of pics and there isn't ONE person besides him, that I'd like to meet and hang out with. Guys in their 50s, 60s dressing and acting like a 20 year old is just insane. I'm open about my sexuality but not flaming open, plus who needs that much competition for the crew, lol

I think I have many of these same photos 🙂 I did the Bergen to Flam ride on one of these local ferries - also in September about 5 years ago. Gorgeous scenery. I think it was about 5 or 6 hours. Then took the train from Flam to Oslo the next day.

I did a four-day trip from Bergen up past the Arctic Circle to the lovely town of Tromso. I had found a lovely little hotel in Tromso where in addition to all-day tea and coffee in the little lounge, they served pancake mix and various jams in the early evening. I'd never seen that before.
