Almost time for my first trip! Gym question.

Hey guys,

After canceling my April 2020 trip to Brazil, it's now time for my first dip.

I've got most of the info I need from this forums so big thanks to all. 39 yo Israeli here.

My itinerary is spending this weekend (5 to 9 oct)  in SP, mid week rio (9 to 13) and returning for next weekend to SP (13 to 16 oct) with one night at Tomorrowland. It would be great to meet someone from this forum and go to the GP sauna or any other adventure, PM me if interested. I'll also go clubbing and to the regular saunas.

One piece of info I didn't find here or any other online resource is regarding gyms. I'll be staying in Paulista Av in SP and Ipanema in Rio. I'm looking for a gay gym. And by gay gym, I mean a gym that is a regular preferably high end gym that is also frequented by a high concentration of gay guys. That combination usually leads to shower fun / steam room action. For reference, imagine the old David Burton gym in NYC. Any inspiration or suggestions on where should I workout?

Thanks again for all the info!

For your first trip to Brazil, I trust you know to be super careful with the packed mob at Tomorrowland!

Bring no watch, no ring, no billfold.
If you cannot live without your phone, consider stashing it in underwear with security pockets, such as here and here.
And you can always put some reals in your socks or underwear.

Young 39yo Israeli, eh? Of course, if you look even remotely like your porn countrymen Jonathan Agassi and Michael Lucas, you'll have plenty of covert fun at any Ipanema (if you want more upscale) or Copacabana gym.

I am afraid the regular posters on this forum do not have this type of experience.  You need to look hot yourself to attract anyone for the type of action you described.

The main gym chain is Smart Fit, but from what I can tell, the gay guys are spread around (there are so many branches.) The guys there are not impressively hot typically, as you would hope. The hottest beefiest guys, in my experience, although again not necessarily gay, are at the gym Forma Fitness coincidentally for you in the basement of the Center Israelite (they don't really seem affiliated) in Copacabana. In SP, the SmartFit at R. Augusta, 1053 - Consolação, São Paulo, does seem pretty concentratedly gay, but I dont recall there being a steam room....showers, though...

Shower fun and steam room action is not a thing in Rio unless you are in the saunas....Take all of the freaky perverted things that you do in your home city and remember that while prostitution is legal....Brazil is still a pretty conservative country...

And the gyms all have gay men in them in Copacabana and Ipanema...unless you are hot, you will be one of many tourists lurking and looking and wont get any attention...

I would avoid cruising in the gyms if I were you....

Use your big brain and not that little one...

I'm also heading to SP in a couple of weeks. Did you need a CPF to join a gym or is there a pay as you go option for gringos?

I have been staying at full service hotels in SP and use hotel gyms.  But I will be happy to know if there is any gym that sells day passes or short term membership.

We went a few years ago and SmartFit Had a kiosk at the front counter. we were able to purchase a day/multi-day pass.

I think it was a bit pricey though. We bought a 3 day pass at the gym in Ipanema.

No CPF needed. SmartFit has a cumbersome day pass system, but the staff will help you. Most I went to are 25 reais, premium locations 30 or 35.

the SmartFit at R. Augusta, 1053 - Consolação, São Paulo is quite gay, and not as shockingly crowded as some other branches (e.g. Copacabana)

nb. some locations get the idea that the AC is supposed to cool, but not that it's supposed to also remove the humidity from the air. So you can get 70F and very high humidity and you are sweating profusely....

Good info.  I will check it out next week in SP.

About AC, I found it strange that many places(restaurants, gyms..etc) have AC on, but leave the windows open.  I just don't understand this practice.

One observation from my recent Brazil trip--the beard epidemic continues!. I would guess that maybe 90% of the guys walking in the gay area in Sao Paulo are sporting some kind of beard. It's not really my thing . This trend seems to have started a few years ago and continues to grow in popularity. I still was able to meet non bearded guys in the saunas but also a trend the amongst the guys there as well. As a side note--not so many beards in Colombia but more than a few years ago.

This is great news for those of us who love to see manly men sporting manly beards -- on their faces, rather than walking beside them!

On some guys, the beards accentuate their looks.  These guys usually have angular features and the beard is relatively short.  Other guys just look unkempt  or have these bushy beards that I don’t think is attractive at all.
