Members endlessdream Posted September 17, 2023 Members Posted September 17, 2023 I have planned a trip to Porto Alegre and Caxias do sul in early Jan. after the new year in Salvador. A friend told me it’s gonna be unbearably hot in POA during that time, so I’m thinking about heading to Fortaleza instead. Any suggestions? I actually have a trip planned for Fortaleza in Juin, but I really can’t deal with heat. I thought POA is much in the south so it’s better to visit during their summer. Am I mistaken? Thank you. Personally, I like warmer climate, so I go to Bahia Salvador during Brazilian winter(June to August), and POA during Brazilian summer( November to March). I avoid Rio/SP/POA in Brazilian winter. Ftrpl Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Porto Alegre is a great place if you’re into more European looking boys. A lot of German immigration there Quote
Members mixer17 Posted November 17, 2023 Members Posted November 17, 2023 Are there any GP saunas in porto alegre? Quote
Members Xclay Posted November 17, 2023 Members Posted November 17, 2023 I praised Porto Alegre here last January (see link below) even before the significant progress noted in the two threads started in June-August (linked in the post above). I just arrived in Porto Alegre today, so I'll provide an update in a week or so. Quote
Members endlessdream Posted November 17, 2023 Author Members Posted November 17, 2023 Anyone heard about thermas 238 and le jardin? They are non-gp saunas right? Quote
Members Xclay Posted November 17, 2023 Members Posted November 17, 2023 Of course you can occasionally come across a random GP hunting at any Brazilian sauna. But, as far as I know, no GPs regularly go to any PA saunas except Lux and Mezzaninu. Compared to much larger cities, it's impressive that PA has two! Quote
Members scott456 Posted November 22, 2023 Members Posted November 22, 2023 This site is pretty negative on Porto Alegre's safety. https://www.travelsafe-abroad.com/brazil/porto-alegre/ But, I am still going there in December. Quote
floridarob Posted November 22, 2023 Posted November 22, 2023 I've always felt safe there, but the locals have said it's dangerous too. Quote
Members Xclay Posted November 23, 2023 Members Posted November 23, 2023 The Moinhos de Vento area with the big park and upscale restaurants has always seemed safe in the two dozen years I've been coming here. I've never heard of anybody having any problems. I always regularly walk at night from Lux (revamped Plataforma) up the hill to Moinhos de Vento. No hassles ever. From more distant Mezzaninu, you'd want to take an Uber. Quote
Members scott456 Posted December 6, 2023 Members Posted December 6, 2023 I notice the way people speak here in Porto Alegre is very different. They speak slowly and gentlely, almost like whispering. It's very pleasant. And yes, the Hilton in Moinhos de Vento is a good hotel to stay and within walking distance to Luxx. Xclay 1 Quote
