Guest taylorsquare Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 I heard Googies restaurant/cafe in the day night area has now changed hands and name to Mushroom. This is the cafe which is in the day night area opposite the hotel, and started off as Papa Davids restaurant, which was then a one shophouse before being sold and changed to Googies around 2006. Googies then renovated and converted the internet cafe shop next door doubling the size. I quite enjoyed eating at Googies during my trips to Pattaya. I found the food quite good especially the breakfasts, the place was clean and open air. Every time I had been there, the place seemed busy. Im not sure of the exact reason it has changed hands, except i had heard the Landlord himself had taken over when the lease expired and renamed it mushroom. Is there any truth to this or was it sold? I must say i will miss the place.I am sad its gone, I remember the same owner also had a upmarket type restaurant further up the road called O briens which i never tried. Can anyone bring to light what happned? Quote
Guest GaySacGuy Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If you liked Googies, then you should like Mushroom. There is really no difference other than a new owner....seems to be the same staff, the same food...mostly the same! Quote
Guest Patexpat Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 by coincidence I had lunch there today - food was well prepared, two substantial breakfasts came to B310. The main negative is that the new people really need to redecorate - right now the walls look dirty and empty, all of the Googie memorabilia having gone of course, so no real ambiance. Plus side is that they now have sliding doors so the inside is nicely air conditioned! Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 Can anyone bring to light what happened? Yes. Googie can bring it to light himself, if he so chooses. Other than that, it's really nobody's business. Quote

Gaybutton discreet and short winded for the first time in his career. Congratuations!!!!!! This is living proof that an old dog can learn new tricks. I think that enough people know the Goodgie story that there is no need to rehash it here. Quote
PattayaMale Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 If anyone knows how I can locate Googie (Michael O'Brien), I would appreciate a PM. Thanks Quote

This is living proof that an old dog can learn new tricks. "How often does a man get a compliment like that?" - Tevye, 'Fiddler on the Roof' Actually this old dog is still up to the same tricks. Sorry, no new ones. If you read previous threads on the Googie subject, you'll find that what I wrote on this thread is the same as I wrote on the previous threads. Quote
