First time visitor, can someone explain it all to me...?

Hey friends,

 

I will be visiting Bangkok for the first time in a few weeks.  I'm interested in learning the ropes on how to meet guys at the spa, club, and apps.  

 

Would anyone be willing to walk me through it and answer questions?

 

I have read a lot of the posts here so I have a lot of info, but it's hard to put it all together.

Spas are pretty simple, although some places offer more legit massage so if you're looking for hanky panky you'll want to visit one of the spas offering happy ending type massages. You probably won't get a great massage but you'll have some sexy fun. The manager or person at the front desk should be able to suggest some one if you tell them what you're looking for if you haven't selected someone already. They're all pretty much on Line and/or Twitter so contacting them is fairly easy.

I never tried much to meet guys on the apps, but obviously others have had good luck.

The gogos are relatively straightforward for the most part. You go in and you will be met with one or several waiters/captains/mamasan who will direct you to a seat and ask you to buy a drink. Be sure to find out how much the drinks cost and how much "boy drinks" are as well. That way you won't be surprised when the bill comes. In most places the mamasan will ask you which boy you like to try and get you to ask one to join you so you will buy him a drink. They will also ask you to buy them a drink too. Given the high cost of drinks they can add up quickly. If you choose to take a boy home with you there is the "off fee" for taking him out of the bar and then the fee you will owe him for your time together. Make sure to find out if he will do what you are looking for before you take him out of the bar. It's not a guarantee that he will actually do what he says, but it can help to eliminate disappointments. Just keep your sentences short and use simple English for communication. Google translate can also be helpful when you don't speak the language. I guess it can be a little intimidating at first, but you'll get the hang of it quickly. Be on your guard but not too stand-offish as these places exist to separate you from as much baht as possible. Set yourself a reasonable budget before you go out for the evening and carry cash. Try to get smaller notes, 100s and 500s especially rather than dealing with getting change for 1000s which can be a way for the bar to game things a bit to extract tips from you. Count the change carefully. And you may want to have 100s should you choose to attempt the world-famous Vinapu Tuck (TM). Don't necessarily expect everything to go perfectly. But have if you have a friendly, good attitude you should have a great time.

I love the chaos of Bangkok. You'll be there during rainy season so expect some downpours and possible flooding rains on occasion.

Explain exactly what is required. And make sure the boy understands. 

If in a bar, make sure the Mama San says the boy does understand or use your phone to translate so there can be no misunderstanding.

Say what you want to do and what is expected from them.

Say how long u want them to stay, e.g. short time or otherwise.

Whether u want bare back or not.

Before taking the boy agree the tip that will be paid including any travel cost or other costs.

-If they cannot do or perform as agreed then at your discretion you can reduce the tip. Never pay in advance.

 

By way of an example:

I usually don,t involve mamasans but at times translation may be necessary.

Conversation starts with obligatory questions you will be asked: what,s your name , where you are from , how long you stay in Thailand. That,s ritual and feel free to lie, just remember your lies.

One more thing you may find useful, when in bar try to have exact change. Thais are honest lot but in bars sometimes thay may forget to bring you that 100 baht change.

I,m on my 30 trip and still on Sunday one bar tried to charge me for 5 while  I and  my boy consumed 4.

Pay as you go may be better strategy instead of accumulating drinks a d than paying whole tab in the end. In beginning it,s easy to lose head in bars with all that bodies on display

This is Thailand. Hotel staff know what's going on. They see it everyday, many times. Some hotels may charge you a "joiner fee". Whether they are cool with it or not is not a worry for you. If you choose a hotel that most people here stay at (many threads on that topic) it's standard policy with most guests that they will be bringing new friends back to their room. I had one experience at a Pattaya hotel where the receptionist messaged me on Grindr when I took a boy up to my room, asking to come join. I declined, but it was funny. 

As for the ID. It's actually Thai law that all people in the hotel have to be registered. Many hotels will keep your new friends ID behind the desk till they leave. Some will even call your room to check everything is OK before returning their ID to them when they are leaving. Again, depends on the hotel you choose to stay at. 

As for bars, and if they have short time rooms. Some do, some don't. But if you don't want to take a boy back to your room, just ask them where to go, or the mamasan before you leave. You are never far away from a short time hotel. It's just an added cost.

Here you may run into problems. My only advice would be to befriend a Thai with good English, drag him around with you and have him do the negotiating. There was a fetish bar in Pattaya, but it died in 2019.

The other solution is study some Thai language before your trip. Communication with just a few key words can do wonders. 

As for "rough stuff".... I'd advise against anything like that. It's generally not the way here. You can quickly get yourself a bad reputation, and that will do you no favours. 

It's best to keep in mind these are generally poor guys trying to make their way in the world. They deserve the upmost respect.
