Free drinks for the boys. If they sat with you and you did not give them anything at all, and yet they chatted with you for free for 30 minutes-1 hour, does that happen? If this does happen and you get this for free I will never tip them again for sitting with me. Because why pay if other older farang get their company for free? Not accurate. The difference is you asked someone to sit with you. Sometimes you make friends. Jomtien Complex is more than just boy bars. There are lots of asian boys who drink there who are not trying to sell services. The experience as an expat is far different than that of a tourist. Just as the rules in a gogo bar are vastly different than a beer bar that you frequent most nights, year round. Quote

This is new. I assume (from your first post) that you were referring to Jomtien Complex. What you described above sounds like a gogo bar. Was there one in the Complex before when you visited? Has the ban on gogo bars been lifted? Quote

A couple of times not even bothering to shower. OK, they are professionals and are there to make money but as the motto of Winchester School has it, "Manners maketh man." this brings me to shower issue. While I never ever me Thai guy with hygiene problem recently I noticed strange practices. After showering together or separately guy excused me and locked toilet and after a while I could hear bum gun in use. Wouldn't be more logic / hygienical to do whole thing before than after shower ? I did not raise an issue but can't say I like sequence. floridarob 1 Quote

I can't see anything THAT different, in both you go , have a drink , call boy or not, off him of not and that's about it, no ? Quote

People who are here for a limited time with desires to fill, don't have time to be messing around. If they want a boy, they need to get him before they fly home. My use of the word vastly was because I feel if you are going to a gogo bar, you are going there for boys. It might not be everyone, but generally that's their objective. You don't go to buy a glass of wine and read a book..... Lot of people go to beer bars in Jomtien Complex for a drink and a chat with and expat friends. Some guys sit there every night alone reading, watching the world go by. There is an American guy who sits trading crypto all night, every night! I know for many, myself included, our fun is normally a late afternoon thing. Evenings are for expat friends, dining, and some drinks. If you live here, having an agenda isn't really necessary. When you have friends, regulars, boys that you know well, it's easier to just go with the flow. See what happens on any given night. - Maybe a regular you haven't seen for a while who just gambled all his money away will jump on your knee and offer you a deal you can't refuse. - Maybe a boy you haven't seen in months walks back into the complex looking hotter than ever. - Maybe you just sit and have drinks with some friends, but you organised tomorrow afternoon on LINE so no problem. I can't say I personally ever went into a gogo bar for any other reason that look for a boy to take off when I was alone. It's since changed to now sometimes going with a group of expat friends for drinks and a good time. vinapu and Boy69 2 Quote

There is no ban on gogo bars at Jomtien Complex it's just classified as residential area and not an entertainment zone since Gogo bars are restricted to Entertainment zones only you can't have a license to operate gogo bar on JC. Rumours says that the land is owned actually by the royal family so there is no way gogo bars wii be aloud there ever. Quote

Shophouses in jomtien complex are private owners I recall over 15 years ago a shophouse was selling for 3 million baht , imagine the price now😳 Quote

The new laundry building next to the Agate I am 80% sure it was 12 million. Testing my memory there. Not all shophouses are privately owned. The closed JQK Bar is owned by the complex, and a few others. It's a mix match of private and complex ownership. Suffice to say the rent is much lower on the privately owned ones. The bars that open and close every year or so, are almost exclusively complex owned. There is no way to make money on the 70k+ a month rent. Boy69, Olddaddy and vinapu 1 2 Quote

Yes I agree if you are not falang owner with deep pockets who is running the bar for fun there is no way bar in JC can survive. Quote
Shonen Posted June 13, 2023 Posted June 13, 2023 So are the owners of the bars in jomtien complex mostly falang or Thai? I would guess that falang owners would struggle more than Thai or Cambodian owners. Just dealing with the workers of the bar. When I ask boys where their room is, many say they sleep in the bar. It would be interesting to know how much profit or loss all the bars are doing. What % are privately owned or owned by the complex. I’m hoping more are private owned as the complex charges more and more bars will probably close because of this. Quote
