TotallyOz Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 I'm a fan in the USA but I have not made the pilgrimage to the new one in Bangkok yet. Has anyone else given it a try? How are the lines now? I remember when Krispy Kream first opened, it was a madhouse and this is no different but it will slow down and then I want to swoop in. https://thethaiger.com/news/bangkok/shake-shack-opens-for-business-in-thailand tm_nyc and floridarob 2 Quote
Popular Post TotallyOz Posted July 3, 2023 Author Popular Post Posted July 3, 2023 Well, I finally made it there today. I had to go to the Apple store to test something in person and the Shack was calling my name. No line for me at 1PM and got my order pretty fast. The burger was really good. I opted for the Salted Caramel shake and it was good too. All in all, I'm glad I gave it a try. It is a good stop if you are in that area. KeepItReal, TMax, vinapu and 3 others 5 1 Quote

You sound like that idiot vinapu who does the same and feasts on pizza in Madrid Tavern. floridarob, TMax and KeepItReal 3 Quote
fedssocr Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 The one across the street from me just keeps raising their prices to an almost unsustainable extent. I hope the one in Thailand is a bit more reasonable. Quote

I've eaten all over the world and most places I couldn't remember for whatever reason, but the few times I've eaten with Oz, have been very memorable, not sure if it was the conversation or his entourage (either Thai boys or Falangs) 😉 TotallyOz 1 Quote

I actually read about that in some guide. Patpong location was quite famous because of Vietnam War history , at that time was considered den of spies reader 1 Quote
Popular Post reader Posted July 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted July 4, 2023 That den of spies (a CIA safe house) was located just above the original location of the Madrid Bar. For those veteran members who were lucky enough to visit before it shut its doors during Covid, you could see photographs on the walls behind those comfy leather booths that depicted some of those operatives drinking together. if you look carefully as you walk along Patpong 1 nearer the Silom end, you still still find the old—and shuttered—Madrid. What became of that memorabilia I don’t know. Maybe the Patpong Museum (Patpong 2, opposite Foodland) may have managed to get its hands on some. In any case, the museum does document that particular history among its displays and is worth a visit if you’re a history buff. Btw, the pizza at Madrid was among the best in town. Vinapu has posted that the cook has purchased the right to the name and opened a shop on Soi Charoen Krung 49 where he maintains the same high standard. https://restaurantguru.com/Madrid-Bangkok For you history buffs out there, here’s a vintage snapshot showing some of those spies drinking at the Madrid. Anthony Poshepny (aka, Tony Poe) is second from right. He is recognized as the inspiration for Col. Kurtz (played by Marlon Brando) in “Apocalypse Now.” floridarob, TMax, 10tazione and 3 others 4 2 Quote

Maybe you saw it there too? Oh wait, have you been too busy with boys, left, right, front and back each time you're in Bangkok, and not yet visited the museum? Quote

I learned about Madrid Tavern and dined there with various forum members well before Patpong Museum was opened. Yes , I visited Museum last year and even reported it in my trip report. Being busy with boys doesn't meant one can't take them for some sightseeing too although that is another subject. fedssocr and reader 2 Quote

I think the late Firecat introduced me to this place years back. I was leery but it was good. floridarob and vinapu 2 Quote
reader Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 This afternoon strolled through Patpong to observe the small army of young men erecting the night market. Along the way paid homage to memories of Madrid. (I believe Patpong Museim has the sign) floridarob 1 Quote
