Respect History: Chinese Names for Places Occupied by Russia

A month ago China issued a directive requiring that Chinese names are added to the eight places occupied by Russia:

I don’t disagree… I posted the article published in China to convey some of the sentiments that exist there. Chinese have long been complaining about the “unequal treaties” (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unequal_treaty).

Waah, waah, waah. What a bunch of crybabies. If they're so big on history, maybe they should give all of their territory back to Mongolia. After all, in the past China was part of the Mongol Empire:

Not quite the same. They are not “crying” after what they used to have as a result of a conquest, but rather what they lost to other empires. More like Mexico/US, Spain/UK, Armenia/Turkey... There are plenty of examples like that pretty much all over the world.

You think that the US didn't acquire most of its territory from Mexico from conquest? When the Mexicans sent 80 troops north of the Rio Grande to support their claim over that area, the US sent troops to attack Mexico all the way to Mexico City then pretty much forced the Mexicans to sign the treaty giving the US most of the territory the US wanted. The victor in wars usually sets the rules. C'est la vie.

Chinese directives can require all kinds of things - but enforcement is another matter. For example, the "Measures on the Management of the Reincarnation of Living Buddhas" require the Dalai Lama to reincarnate in Tibet according to Chinese law and some very Confucian bureaucracy when the time comes.
