Missing Thailand Already

The flight to LA was hell. Long flight and the NWA flight from Bkk to Tokyo was horrible. I got into LA and I carried my bike I rode in the TourDeThailand.com charity bike ride. It was a nice cannondale bike. I had to get a special taxi for it and all my luggage. I got to the hotel and then went to the bike shop to have it serviced and a tune up before I start preparing for my next adventure. I took it from the bike shop to Starbucks in Marina Del Rey (a very nice area next to the ocean) and walked to the movie with some friends. The bike was in front of the Starbucks. After the movie, I went to get the bike to ride to the hotel and guess what? The bike was gone. It was special as I had ridden it around Thailand. I called the cops who filed a report. They said, "welcome to LA." I said, "Toto, I don't think I am in Thailand anymore."

Sorry to hear about your bike GT.

The LOS is much safer than the USA for sure.

Sorry about your bike. It really sucks that our property is not safe anywhere.

Like everyone else, I empathize with the loss of your bike. I hope the bike shop was responsible, insured, and will cover the financial loss - although the connection to your trip across Thailand can not be replaced.

My ex in the states was a triathlete and had a bicycle that cost more than our car (well, not exactly, but it was expensive). One evening thieves broke into our garage, moved his bike out of the way and stole MY cheapo one. We filed a police report and several months later they called and told us the bike had been found. It was in a pawn shop. We smiled and told them to pick it up and bring it to us. They shook their head and informed us that we could get the bike after we paid the pawn shop their asking price. That's right. In order to get our stolen property back, we had to pay the shop for it. Talk about justice. Let's not throw too many stones at the Thai system, the California system seems just as looney to me.

Didn't Lance Armstrong's bike get stolen in California a few weeks ago while he was in a race?

So, while it is certainly cold comfort, you are in good company. I guess things are getting pretty desperate in California these days.

I can’t believe what I’m reading a man as worldly wise as you say you are, would leave an expensive bike out side a restaurant, when I’m in Ft Lauderdale I would not leave my grandmother around, for fear of some one kidnapping her.

It beggars belief, and then you called the Cops, expecting to find it. Wow you are too naïve for your own good. Next your be telling us you left a gaggle of boys, in your home in Thailand, hoping they would not get up to mischief, with out any observation or a trusting friend living there.

Where have you been hiding on the moon.

I lived a long time in LA and I don't know of anyway to protect a bike from getting stolen other than put it inside the house. Chains and locks just don't work. It is unfortunate.

What happened with the flight? I personally have given up on Northwest (maybe they are better but I have avoided them for 6 years).

Anyway, good luck with your next adventure and remember this gives you a chance to get a custom seat for the new bike.

Desperate? To say the least. I was staying at a nice Marriott and called down for room service at 11:00 PM. I was told they were closed. In a giant hotel in a major city, I was shocked. I asked why and was told they had low occupancy and they had to cut costs.

My oh my. I have never said I was worldly. I said I was worthless. There is a huge difference. :) I have never been to the moon, although I am looking into one of those Russian space flights when I win the lottery. :)

I only have 2 full-time boyfriends in Thailand. I trust them implicitly (as long as they stay at their home with mama when I am away).

A friend to take care of them? Humm. A novel idea. Let me ponder it. :) Ok. thought it about for sec. Nope. :)

God is telling you something GT about biking. Take it as a warning!

Here we go now. Who is it that is hearing these voices. There is a psychiatric term for people who hear voices.

Would that be normal or not deaf? If you mean voices when no one is around the name for that is daydreaming. Now if mean voices that tell you what to do and when to do it, the name for that is married. However, If the voice you hear is the voice of God then the name for that is George W. Bush.

God speaks in strange ways! The bike being stolen was an omen that GT should give up biking. Once my Jeep Wrangler was stolen and I took it as an omen that God thought it was too dangerous for me to drive. Wished he had given me a warning, I had canceled the theft insurance one week previously.

You just proved my point for me. Thank you.

Well, God only sends me omens, but He visits GB and has a drink with him. But then seeing is believing.

I also think that GT received an omen not to fly in those Boeing 757s from BKK to Tokyo.

Damm right. I only need one warning and I won't do it again. I was raised in the deep south and very religious and when I get an omen, I listen.
