TotallyOz Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 We had a nice breakfast this morning in which I invited all those who participated in the contest and had over 150 posts. We sat around and enjoyed the morning and some good food. We had a drawing in which one of our waiters/hostess from the hotel picked the name out of a hat. Yes, it was an actual cowboy hat from my wild west days. Lvdkeyes name was drawn and while he was not in attendance, I did speak to him and congratulated him. Thank you to Gaybutton who worked hard to keep the contest tallies and to everyone who participated and posted. I had a great time with this and loved reading so many diverse opinions on many subjects. I hope you all continue to post and keep the board active. Quote
Guest lvdkeyes Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Lvdkeyes name was drawn and while he was not in attendance, I did speak to him and congratulated him. I am stunned that I won this contest. I have never won anything in my life. The postings have been interesting. Thank you to Gaythailand for being so generous and to the staff for the work on this contest. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 My congratulations too. I gave lvdkeyes a call when I returned home from the breakfast. He told me GT had already informed him and he said, "I'm just stunned!" He said he didn't come to the breakfast because by the time he woke up this morning it was already too late for him to get there. On top of that, Pattaya had another heavy rain storm this morning. For those of you who did not know about the breakfast, GT was generous enough to host a breakfast at the Marriott this morning for invited guests. The guests invited were those who were eligible to win the contest and some additional people who post on the board and are local in Pattaya. We wanted to make sure we had people who could attest to the fact that nothing was 'rigged.' Those in attendance, along with GT and myself, were PattayaMale, GaySacGuy, and Shebavon. Although they were not contenders to win, Geezer and RichLB were also with us. Yes, as GT says, the names went into a real hat. Our hostess was a young Dutch lady who is a management trainee at the Marriott. We asked her to do the honors when it came time to draw the winning name. GaySacGuy was the official photographer for us. Today he is returning to Ubon Ratchathani. After he arrives home he'll get the photos posted. GayThailand is also leaving us this evening. He's headed off to the USA and expects to return to Thailand in about two months. So, a good time was had by all. I'm almost sorry to see the contest come to an end. I got so used to counting and tallying posts that now I'm going to have to figure out something else to do! Again, congratulations to lvdkeyes. For those who didn't win, now is the time to start trying to convince GT to sponsor another contest . . . Quote
PattayaMale Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 I want to add my thanks to GayThailand for hosting the breakfast and sponsoring the contest. This was the first time I met GayThailand and found him to be a really remarkable and fun guy. If you have not met him, I hope you will at some point. I think he said he was going to return to Thailand in about 2 months. The entire group who attended the breakfast were very interesting people to talk with. Quote
Guest fountainhall Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 My congratulations to lvdkeyes - and especially to GayThailand and GB for coming up with the idea and tabulating the results. That breakfast must have been something! I for one have enjoyed posting here and plan to continue doing so. The serious posts have been interesting and often enlightening, without bitchiness (well, not much!). The fun posts have been mostly just that. Long may the site continue! Quote

Ditto, ditto and ditto. I missed the breakfast. Too far to travel from Seattle. Do we get a raincheck? Quote

Congrats to Lvdkeyes, as well, and to all that made the contest possible and so fun. I wish I could have attended the breakfast buffet, but hope to make the next one, if there is one. Quote

That breakfast must have been something! I for one have enjoyed posting here and plan to continue doing so. I agree!! Logged in one day to check out some visa stuff, saw the contest, and had fun posting. perhaps for the best that I did not win as it makes it somewhat more likely that I'll look for work in the States. Congrats Lvdkeyes and of course thanks to GT and GB! Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 For those who didn't win, now is the time to start trying to convince GT to sponsor another contest . . Here's an idea to get beyond the 11 posters in Contest Numero Uno. Taking a page from multi level marketing why not have a contest where each of the original 11 plus GB and GT enroll contestants. Same same rules as the first contest but every day the new poster gets his name in the hat, then so does his enroller. GT is an excellent forum but does not yet have a critical mass of posters. This type of contest would make the Forum an extremely busy place. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 GT is an excellent forum but does not yet have a critical mass of posters. This type of contest would make the Forum an extremely busy place. If obtaining a "critical mass" of posters was the goal, your idea might be considered. I'm sure GT will consider it anyway, but from where I sit, and I've consistently said this for many years, numbers of posts and numbers of members mean absolutely nothing. That's not what we're all about and that's not what we're trying to become all about. My personal position is that we're after quality, meaningful, reliably informative posts. We're after being a place for people to come when they wish to discuss issues intelligently. We're after being a place for people to come when they have questions, and know they will receive answers to the best of our ability to provide, without being ridiculed simply for asking. We're after being a place to come where people know that personal attacks and slanders will not be tolerated. Those are the kinds of people and posters I want to see on this board. If there are people out there who wish to join us with regard to that kind of posting, they're welcome to do so. If that attracts more posters, wonderful. If not, so be it. But I'm definitely not interested in sacrificing the kind of quality we've set out to achieve here for the sake of gaining numbers of posts and posters whose posts are, shall we say, of a different nature. I don't want to see a lot of one time post and people dropping in and out just to get their names in the hat. Also, we in the states would have more trouble interesting someone in a Thailand board. Oh, I could have friends and neighbors do one post, but that would get silly very quickly. I too like this board, or I would not post. What ever happened to the idea that "if you build it they will come." I know it was a corny movie, but let us keep the board up and just see what happens. One thing that is strange is why some SGT posters do not post here. I am thinking of George, X, Dave, and others who can talk about more then what new boy is in what bar. Just my vote, others may and can differ. Quote
Gaybutton Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Here are a few photos of the name drawing: The names are all in. Marriott's Management Trainee mixing up the names. The magic moment when the winning name, lvdkeyes, is drawn! - And thank you very much, GaySacGuy, for supplying the photos. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 One thing that is strange is why some SGT posters do not post here. It surprised me that they didn't especially during the contest. I assume they knew about the contest. One reason could be that to post 3 meaningful quality posts per day it helps to have a variety of threads to respond to. Quote
Guest shebavon Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Congratulations to LVDKEYES for his lucky win, and to GB and GT for setting up the contest and the breakfast. This is a fun board to post, and word of mouth is the best advertisement. Contests are fun too. Quote
