PeterRS Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Two issues strike me from that damning account. Quote Tesco said that protecting the rights of everyone in its supply chain was absolutely essential and that had it identified serious issues like these at the time it would have ended its relationship with VKG immediately. Tesco started using the factory in 2017, despite its own initial inspection identifying areas of non-compliance that experts say should have been red flags. and Quote A Tesco spokesperson said: “Protecting the rights of everyone working in our supply chain is absolutely essential to how we do business. In order to uphold our stringent human rights standards, we have a robust auditing process in place across our supply chain and the communities where we operate." In other words, Tesco's auditing process and its holier than thou attitude is just a sham. Profts are profits and damn be those who suffer as a result! Shame on them. Ruthrieston and vinapu 2 Quote

We are appalled and then go shopping and hunt for cheapest prices pretending not to understand connection between price and wages in both factories and sales points. PeterRS 1 Quote
forrestreid Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 Shocking story. The Tesco side of things was bad enough, but looking at it from the perspective of Thailand, you just know that the only reason that the employer was able to get away with so much is because these workers were presumably all Burmese. The fact that they are not Thai citizens seems to be an excuse by employers across the board to treat them badly, from fishing boats, to maids, to factory workers. Ruthrieston and vinapu 2 Quote
