Members belkinDC Posted December 12, 2022 Members Posted December 12, 2022 Hi all, I'm currently planning a trip to Brazil over New Year's. Thus far I just have my main plane tickets booked; I'm arriving in SP a few days after Xmas and leaving about two weeks later out of GIG/Rio. I had been planning to just spend a few nights in SP before heading to Rio for New Year's and the remainder of my time there. But, looking now at Airbnb (and hotel) prices in Rio over NY, it seems it's probably not the best time to visit for someone who isn't particularly interested in their NY festivities. The easiest option is just to stay in SP until 1/3 or 1/4, but I've already spent plenty of time in SP (including 9 nights in late Sept) and wondering if this might be a good opportunity to broaden my Brazilian horizons a bit (which has been limited to Rio/SP thus far; this will be my 6th trip, the first having been in Aug 2019). Does anyone have recommendations? I'm in my mid 30s, decent shape, American, don't speak a ton of PT but enough to get buy with GPs, and don't drink or do hard drugs (another reason I'm thinking NYE in RJ might be a skip for me). I've previously wanted to visit POA but recent reports from the city aren't too promising. Another option that a local I met in Lagoa recommended (not necessarily for NYE) is Buzios in RJ state, but that looks more like a destination to perhaps take a guy to once you've already set something up. Anyone have ideas, especially if you've spent NYE there in the past yourself? Is Rio worth taking a 2nd look and just biting the bullet on the higher prices (they aren't necessarily a deal killer for me, but just giving me a bit of sticker shock based on what I've paid on other trips)? Members BlkSuperman Posted December 13, 2022 Members Posted December 13, 2022 Rio is definitely worth taking a second look if you want your mind and other BODY parts blown. It is ELECTRIFYING for New Years eve. It's also a great way to meet lots of guys from other parts of Brazil because they come from all over to make money in the saunas, as that is a very busy and lucrative time for the garatos. The patrons in the saunas are SUPER FRIENDLY as well. The airbnbs and hotels are DOUBLE, some TRIPLE in price, but I've noticed that the airbnbs in copacabana aren't AS expensive as the one in Ipanema and there are still some available in copa. If it's just you going then consider renting a studio instead of a 1 bedroom apartment. You can save money that way. You say you're not into the NY festivities, but you can always go to the sauna, order a few beers, meet a few of the garatos, chill out there for a few hours and enjoy the shows. I've been blessed to be in rio for carnaval and NY eve and I can tell you the vibe during NY eve is 100 times better.l and worth every extra penny you will spend. The men are beautiful and they are in your face all night long vying for your attention while beating their hard dicks in the palm of their hands. Trust me, you WON'T REGRET going for NY EVE. #HaveFun BL8gPt 1 Quote
Members HiThereAll Posted December 13, 2022 Members Posted December 13, 2022 FWIW: I have been to Rio for NYE. Great fun, but remember they might require pre purchase of Metro tickets to go to or leave the area of your party. Otherwise, good luck getting back to where you are staying - might have to walk. Same was true at Mardi Gras from what a friend told me 10 years ago. If you are staying in Copa there might be fireworks at the beach. Will 117 or Pointe have a party, I would not think it likely. NYE 2023 might be slower than pre COVID, who knows. Be aware that many people still mask in Rio !! For Germany, NYE: Silvester in Frankfurt am Main (nicht zum Oder !!) it's cold but very enjoyable. Not known to most non Germans. There are leather bars with backrooms near the center and hotels near the DB HbF are not that expensive. MN on one of the bridges was very much enjoyable. Lots of security too, which is a good thing these days. Koln, Colonie, Cologne for Karneval, Carnaval, Mardi Gras. Not known to the English speaking world. But huge fun for the German speakers. www.bing.com/search?q=koln%20carnaval&qs=n&form=QBRE&=%25eManage%20Your%20Search%20History%25E&sp=-1&pq=koln%20carnaval&sc=10-13&sk=&cvid=F162934925C9438A9206BABA49EEF774&ghsh=0&ghacc=0&ghpl= The Cologne Carnival (German: Kölner Karneval) Quote
Members HiThereAll Posted December 13, 2022 Members Posted December 13, 2022 Forgot to add: Koln has one of the nicest bath houses in Europe, if still open due to COVID. It is also a very good gay city with many bars of all types (memories of pre COVID travels). The old center has been partially rebuilt and is very pleasant. Kolner Don survived the war. Easy airplane access (close to the city center) and a good HbF. Quote
