reader Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 There a banner suspended from the Surawong side of entrance, accounting the return of the market on December 5th. Don’t know how long it’s been there but the date draws near. Will7272, floridarob, TMax and 1 other 4 Quote
TMax Posted November 20, 2022 Posted November 20, 2022 I hope so, it will be good to see life on Patpong returning at night time. Lucky and reader 2 Quote

reader Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 Another thing to keep in mind is that all of the buildings and roads comprising Patpong (1, 2 and the connecting alleys) are on privately owned land. Finding sufficient vendors to rent space on Patpong 1 could be holding up the re-opening. Since the market is dismantled every evening and reassembled the following afternoon, and the display stands stored in a garage off of Patpong 2, the logistical expenses are huge. vinapu, Will7272, TMax and 1 other 4 Quote

I would love to know the no doubt weird and wonderful reason for that daily build and strip routine. I've always assumed it was either as there's some law that prevents there being a permanent market there unless approved by the authorities / Palace etc OR that the landlords perhaps rent the land to the market owners on the condition that they get the contract to provide all the kit and the manpower labour to build and strip it all every day of the year and THAT is how they're making the REAL money from the deal. As when you consider that the strip can be going on well until the early hours of the morning sometimes, with the build then starting to happen sometimes well before lunch time again on the same day with only a few hours gap in between there must surely be SOME reason behind it happening like that as it makes zero sense otherwise, even when factoring in the whole TIT thing !? floridarob and vinapu 2 Quote
reader Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 One reason could be the need to open the road to allow for trucks to service the business needs of the lease holders (trash removal, deliveries, etc.). There's also the access of emergency vehicles in case of fire to consider. Wouldn't be surprised if it reopens in a different, smaller configuration. Quote
paulsf Posted December 6, 2022 Posted December 6, 2022 It appears the Night Market is open tonight. reader, Patanawet, 18past19 and 1 other 4 Quote
reader Posted December 6, 2022 Author Posted December 6, 2022 This photo taken about 1a.m. Wednesday. The vendors' area extends from the Surawong entrance to the alley that connects to Patpong 2 (near Dreamboy), my friend tells me. The remainder of Patpong remains open to traffic. It's heartening to see new life returning after the long winter of covid. Ryanqqq, 18past19 and vinapu 3 Quote
