Hi Club Karaoke - A Review from November 19

I finally decided to get out of my apartment. I had a bout with Covid which took longer than expected to heal. The cough is still there but the ATK tests negative. The doctor said the cough may last a few months. A few rounds to the hospital over the past month made me just not to want to stray from the necessary places. However, tonight, I ventured out and I wanted to see if Hi Club was like their videos on LINE.

First, there is a thread here that discusses the place.

Second, their LINE group is very active. I was told it opened at 9PM so I got there around 9:30. No one was there and I was the only customer. So, I had my pick. Being secluded for a month I got greedy and invited 4 boys to sit and have drinks. All were young and manly and cute. A few six packs and very cuddly. All were straight and none were open to gay encounters except to get sucked and to fuck. Well, that was not what I was looking for so I told them to fuck off.

Just kidding. I liked two so I took them home with me. On a scale of 1-10, well, perhaps the fun factor can't be properly rated so I'll pass on the service rating as it would not be fair. But, on a cute scale, at least a 9. I enjoyed their company for the night. I told them 3k before we left the bar and they were both OK with that for an overnight.

Having to do it again, I think I would have chosen more carefully to make sure they could at least do a few things other than get sucked or fuck. But, hey, they told me in advance and I should have believed them. All from were from Laos.

The cost of the bill at the place was 3899. That was 1699 for the mixers and whiskey (which they throughly enjoyed and played some games). The off was 500 baht each. And, there was a fee per hour for boys to sit with you. That was all a bit odd and I'm not sure if that was BS but I paid anyway.

All in all, the place is very clean, newly renovated and comfortable. No smoking inside that I saw and the boys with me all went outside to smoke. The music was not too loud when I was there and it was good music and not Thai music. I was told it did not get busy until 2AM, so apparently, I get older and the night must start earlier.

The place was easy to find and on the main road near the other massage places.

Great-a timely wonder of fast exploration. Myself walked by there  that afternoon-just when the rains had stopped and all those pipes still leaked on the footpath. It is north side of that street near soi 11. The 4-5 m2m msg shops are a little further on, coming from Spn Kwai. And indeed it seems that about any willing guy from the real Laos is in BKK at the mo working around there.

Outside all black and only sign KaraOK. The old-style Sapan Kwai shops in the tiny soi off Pradipath have more or less same style, but actively promote that singing and of course mostly/only to Thai music. I know some very old hits/nrs from years ago, but cannot sing and will just leave that to others.

(yes, charging by the hr for guys sitting is/was common, but at very low rates in the past-another take-over of the many more girlie bars, but is often waived if customer spends enough-which you clearly did).

Pong, I didn't understand 2 things. One was each guy got 2 drinks (I had to sign), not sure what that was for but after asking 5 times, I still am not clear as the mamasan is the only one who spoke English and helped herself to drinks as well. The other thing was the hour was charged but at what rate? Yes, I should have been more atune to the bill at the end but I just wanted to pay and leave when the boys said they wanted to stay with me.

Can also no explain- if I do the math 1200 is unaccounted for-did the guys not drink from the set -up with the whiskey etc? Even @ 100/hr per guy the ´sitwithyou´ fee is quite high IMHO. Nah yah, its gone and over and there is no recourse-nor do I assume that there will now be a tornado of new visitors there.

IF this set appeals to you-and they will open from 21.00- the old standing Sapan Kwai karaOK bars etc in that small soi off Pradipath are still there- DD, STax left hand, U-Turn, Waterloo right side. Stax said to be best for farang. There will probably be someone who can explain it all, that is of course: if you enjoy it so much to want that. THai music mostly, yes, and REAL old-fashion style karaOK-Buddha may help you with that. Ask for Asanee Wasant or BIRD-both firmly from <2000.

That is an evening drinking + double overnight at 10K (USD 275)! Not that cheap for Thailand but still: something like this would easily cost me USD 3000 in NY city.

Yes, and the cost of an escort in 2001 was 300 USD per hour from most agencies (or 200 from Stella's, or 50 from Port Authority, or 20 from video booths, or free if you were waiting out night in Chelsea long enough to find someone who missed the Metro North).

It is standard for to be charged for the time that a host or hostess spends with you in Thai-style host bars or karaokes. The charge will either be on an hourly or half-hourly basis, depending on the policy in each venue. The going rate in most Saphan Kwai hostess bars is about 200 baht per half-hour, per girl that you invite over to sit with you. Not sure how that compares with what you had to pay at Hi Club, but I assume that it was somewhere along the same lines.
