I was surprised at how depressing it was with so many businesses closed up

I'm sorry to hear the place hasn't really sprung back to life yet. But wiling away time at the beach doesn't sound too bad. Hopefully Bangkok has more to offer.

BTW, what was your final impression of the Classroom?

Stopped at the metal table restaurant (Pakboong loy Fah), which I'll refer to as prison table restaurant

I know this place. Call it what you wish, but the food is very good. It used to call itself Flying Vegetables Restaurant - for good reason!

It still likely is-thats just the exact /en/ translation of the Thai. Though the Thai also specifies the type of greenies. In /en/ translated as ´morning glory´ which the younger among us may also want to endulge in mornings. Sadly these stiff when fresh greenies start to soften when cooked in the hot oil........

Amazing to see that such places still do exist-and apparently even in very same place- since < 2000. Cannot be said for any of the gay places (well, hmm, BBB?)

Across the road there used to be a BOAT restrt-normal budget inside Thai-with its staff all hurrying up at 21.00-closing time to get on their fancy dress and take up the days #2 job in the bars opposite in B´s t´n.

"The Men of Thailand" 7th edition from 1999 lists A-Bomb, Ambiance, Le Cafe Royale, BBB, Toy Boys, which all still exist in some form.
