If I had over a million USD to invest in one country I would want something bigger than just 1 rai  (~0.4 acres)

Agreed. Although, coming from zero land ownership to lets say 0.4 acres of land in a premium location, some might bite. Definitely a good thing for those who already invested as much or more already.

Anyone who does want to spend about £0.9m on 0.4 acres of land in Thailand should wait for the small print and confirm that ownership means just that.

According to a Bangkok Post article I read a few months ago, on the properties foreigners are permitted to buy at present, the maximum lease is 30 years.   Now if that's correct, the first task is to calculate the probability of outliving the lease.

Yes, we can all buy today! 40 million baht minimum. :)

Here's a nice little plot for you, although it might blow the budget:

The way i understand the article is to have 40mil baht investment in properties is the requirement to be able to purchase 1 rai of land. The price of that land of course should be market value.

Investment of 40 million Thai baht in real estate, securities or funds over 3 years allows ownership of up to 1 rai of land for residential purposes plus 10-year visa and some tax benefits
