Marking a forum as read

Just interested.  What happens when you mark a forum as read?

It will be marked as read

It's a way of keeping track of what you've read/want to.  When you read all the posts that interest you in a forum but there's others left, you can mark the forum as read so when you come back only the new stuff shows as unread.

Still I have a further question.  The little box says "mark site read".  It does not say "mark forum read"  So If I click on it does it mark the whole site as read of just the forum I am in at that time?
