reader Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Walking on Rama 4 yesterday and came across an open door to a construction site. As near as I can figure, this was once the rear entrance to Soi Twilight that hosted its last show three years ago. Olddaddy, JackR, BL8gPt and 4 others 3 1 3 Quote

GWMinUS Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 Amazing the Soi was shut down 3 years ago and nothing has been built on the Site. What a waste of time the Bars could have been open... 🤔 Quote

reader Posted July 10, 2022 Author Posted July 10, 2022 In BKK, I think there’s only one thing that speeds up permits and permissions. It’s lack of same that delays them. GWMinUS, splinter1949, Patanawet and 1 other 1 3 Quote

reader Posted July 16, 2022 Author Posted July 16, 2022 The two structures in upper left of photo appear to be situated where "Balls Sports Bar" (i think it had a few different names over tome) was located. If I recall, the Swiss (Lucas) who managed Tanrtawan Hotel and also ran Dick's Cafe and Balls. TMax and ggobkk 2 Quote

About 8 years or so ago there was an excellent British Pie Shop at the top of Soi Yen Akat. It made a wide variety of pies, including a Green Curry Pie, and they were all delicious. It was forced to move out as a result of the block due to being demolished. After moving several times, I believe the shop has now been reincarnated as the London Pie Shop and Restaurant near Ekamai BTS station. Not surprisingly, the Yen Akat block is still standing. Quote
Department_Of_Agriculture Posted October 15, 2022 Posted October 15, 2022 Ah well, at least people can take a walk down memory lane now, even if it's only halfway down the lane. Hopefully they won't build some big monolithic building and we will still be able to identify the former locations of our favourite bars when walking through whatever it is that eventually gets built. Since Bangkok is expecting a major glut of office space over the next two or three years, perhaps they won't start work on anything permanent for a while to work. More of those open-air "spaces" would be welcome in the meantime. vinapu 1 Quote
fedssocr Posted October 16, 2022 Posted October 16, 2022 probably will be yet another shopping mall or luxury condo Quote

reader Posted October 19, 2022 Author Posted October 19, 2022 Finding passage from Surawong to Rama 4 great find—and over hallowed ground no less. Looks like it’s directly opposite the Beer Garden. Think of all the guys who once danced above it 🤗 vinapu 1 Quote
