PattayaMale Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 (Washington) Legislation was re-introduced in Congress Thursday that would allow Americans in a same-sex relationship to sponsor their “permanent partners” for legal residency in the United States, a right currently afforded only to opposite-sex couples under immigration law. The Uniting American Families Act was filed in the House by Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY). Nadler has been fighting for the bill for nearly eight years. With Democrats now in Control of the Congress and the White House Nader said Thursday he is hopeful the measure will become law. “In 2009, we should be ready as a society to acknowledge that stable American families come in all varieties,” said Nadler Quote
Guest MonkeySee Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 This would be great news if passed. Look out for the religious right to start a mud slinging contest. Rush and O'Rielly will be on a campaign. Quote

Guest GaySacGuy Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 There may be opposittion from those groups mentioned, but I don't think it will get the big splash like gay marriage. This is only providing a legal right and not really the religious issues that gay marriage has. It would be really great...I am all for the bill. Does anyone know the number of the bill, and what title it carries? Once we have that info we should contact our representatives...especially senators..and encourage passage. Quote
JayBee Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 You can get more information about the bill, and updates on its progress (if any), at this site: www.immigrationequality.org Quote
Guest laurence Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Would anyone who has a Thai bf want them to come to the US? For me, perhaps for a visit for him, but it would be a nightmare is most respects. Unless the bf was educated and well spoken in English I would not want to think how he would negotiate our friendly Customs and Immigration agents. Quote

What is going to happen when he finds out that by US standards he is hot, and half the gays in town start hitting on him? Quote

This will be as much red meat for the Religilous right (reich) as Gays in the Military was with Clinton. They will brand this as opening the door for federal recognition of Gay marriages. I say great. Let's go for it, since our chance for success may never be this good again, with a sympathetic President and a Democratic congress. Just don't fool yourself. This will not happen easily. The Customs & Immigration agents shouldn't be much of a problem, as the problems will mostly be solved at the US Embassy in Thailand. There the boy will have to obtain a visa, and that is the real problem. Once he arrives in the US with a valid visa, C&I shouldn't be too bad. Quote

They will have to be retrained on how to speak to Gays as people. Another fringe benefit of the bill. Quote

I have had more contact with them than I wish (I seem to be on the list to be searched when entering the US), but I have to say that most of them have been pretty professional. I hope they only get better. Quote

I hope they only get better. I travel in and out of the country two or three times a year and I have only been searched once. They were very professional and were only looking for porn, especially child porn. Like it or not, as long as the child molesters hide in our community we are going to be suspect. I really do not think that this is aimed at gays. I have a straight friend that returned from Thailand that went through the same thing. This is probably the only board where I can get away with saying that I will gladly put up with searches if it helps them get the sickos child f........s off the street. Quote

My friends (?) have said he is not "good looking" meaning not big, old, muscular, hairy etc. We are now down to one semi-gay bar haunted by older farang except during the summer at the pool when the cuties come out.
