Guest LastSamurai Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hello, Sorry, quick (maybe too quick search of message board didn't lead me to a precise thread! I'm interested in recommendations for relatively simple single accommodation near Dongtan Beach or elsewhere in Jomtien, or, if need be, South Pattaya for apx. 3 weels mid April to early May, ideally in range of 1,500 to 2,000 B per week (or am I dreaming of yesteryear??? Thank you Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I don't know of anyplace on Dongtan Beach that cheap. However there are many places that are only a quick 10 baht bus ride away that rent in the 10K range per month. The places i know are in Pattaya but I'm sure they also exist in Jomtien. You can get cheaper than 10K a month but for for most people on holiday, it's often better to get things such as saftey boxes, wifi, swimming pool, and nicer room than to go for the even lower cost places. There are some very cheap near the Russian condos below Big Buddha. You can walk to the gay beach, but a rather long, inconvenient walk. And at night you're really stuck and isolated. Quote
Gaybutton Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 am I dreaming of yesteryear??? You're dreaming. If you need accommodations that inexpensive, then the only thing you can do is try to find a room in one of the tenement types of apartments and rent it for a month. You can find places that are as inexpensive as 3000 baht per month. It will be a dump, but you'll get a bed, some broken down furniture and maybe a ceiling fan. If that suits you, those kinds of places are available. Don't forget to tell us all about how the boy you take off likes it when you take him to your room . . . All kidding aside, if you really can't afford decent accommodations, then don't you think you're better off saving your money until you can? Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I don't think the original poster's request is all that unreasonable. He is hoping to pay 2000 a week and probably willing to pay a bit more. On Dongtang beach it's just not happening. There's only a few places there and all more expensive. But I was paying approx 10K a month(electric varied) for what I consider an extremely nice place in Pattaya. I have friends who are paying about 7,500 baht for a place less nice. I saw a Nirun Condo offered for 5K a month or 4K a month for longterm. Now I personally don't like theh Nirun Condo but it's probably nicer than most boy's room. I guess this strikes a nerve with me because before I moved to Pattaya I asked on the Sawanasty Forum if anyone knew of places for about 10K a month and I got my head bitten off and told that I should just stay home. And lo and behold I get to Sodom By The Seashore and 10K/mo places are everywhere. I agree with you GB that when on holiday, it's probably best to have a certain comfort level. But the 6K he's hoping for 2K X 3 weeks is not ridiculous, but just a little bit on the low side. Right now, in Bali, I am typing this in my room with free wifi for which I'm paying 260 USD/mo. There's a pool too. Now it's not a place that I would recommend to most people on a holiday. But I'm happy here and choose not to stay in my favorite place that's 5 times as expensive. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Samuri, Here's a nice place in South Pattaya for 9K a month plus water and electric. No pool though. If a pool is important there's other places i can suggest. http://www.selinaplace.com/booking.html But I suspect you really want Jomtien. Beware, the beginning of your trip is Songkran and location is very important with regard to getting constantly doused with buckets of water. Quote
Guest LastSamurai Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 Oooops, I goofed. I'm usually pretty good with exchange rates (as the yen soars up and down day-by-day). Let me correct myself. I'd be looking for a weekly rental based on B 600 per night X 7 minus 15-20% discount for renting by the week. This adds up to something like B 4200 minus B 600 to give a more realistic (?????) figure of, say, B 3600 per week. Post Songkran, in the hottest month of the year, am I still dreaming???? As for what the boy I off thinks of the place, I really don't care since usually they leave before they come , or in some cases before I come BTW, does Songkran end on APR 15 or 19??? Any revised reccommendations most welcome. Thank you. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 April 19th is the craziest Songkran day in Pattaya but April 20th may still have some residual water throwing. April 15th is the end in most of the country. 600 baht a day is reasonable and doable. But not on Dongtan Beach as far as I know. I stayed at Tui's 5 years ago and it was much cheaper than now. Think the White House on Dongtan Beach (not to be confused with the White House on Soi Whiehouse) is reasonable priced but still over 1000. If you really like staying on Dongtan Beach you could spend a week there and two weeks in a cheaper place. Btw-Though there are lots of monthly discounts there are not that many weekly discounts out there. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Here's a place you may like that prorates the monthly rate. There are lots of good monthly deals in Pattaya but great deals for short stays are tougher to come by. Excellent rooms at the the VCC Condo and MyView Condo are only 400 a night. These rooms are 37 sq. metres, with a kitchenette, balcony, in room safe, and nicely furnished. In about a week their swimming pool opens, big enough to do laps, actually it looked like you could even swim today. It's especially good if you value a kitchen, personally I don't. Fine print: When renting by the day you still pay for water and electric but at 4 baht/unit this is a reasonable charge. The less you use the aircon then the less you pay. If you want the room cleaned it's 150 baht, up to you. Laundry is 200 baht, guess that means sheets and towels, not sure if it includes your clothes, up to you if you want the laundry done. Cable TV is 10 baht a day, won't break the bank. A mandatory check out cleaning is 400 baht so this is not a great place for only a one or two night stay. So a 10 day stay would be 4000 + 400 check out + cable, electric, water, and any optional cleaning bills. The ideal tenant is a guy who likes to swim and cook but doesn't soil the sheets too much. It's on Soi 17 (but some call this Soi 16, there was a confusing renumbering) but it's the soi between Pattaya Tai and Soi VC. It's less than a 5 minute walk to Cat's Place or TukCom, maybe slightly more than 5 to Sunee Plaza, and a little less than 15 to EZY Bar. The monthly rate is OK for what you get but by no means a great deal. But the daily rate is great for some people. Patrice, the rental agent, also provides the same daily deal for Yensabai Condo and View Talay though electric/water charges will vary from place to play and the condo price depends on the location. Check out the website for an idea of what's available, just divide the monthly price by 30 to get the daily rate. Patrice seemed like a good guy. I walk by there at least 3 nights a week and I have yet to see a customer inside. The "ladies" sit on the terrace and greet passers by - sometimes they entertain themselves by playing badmitton in the soi in their silk komonos and high heels. When walking by the other night I wondered if maybe this was a front for some other business as the business here seems rather non-existenet. Maybe they get busy later - I always walk by between 9:00 - 11:00 PM. Quote
Guest Astrrro Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Does anyone really go to Cat's Place? I walk by there at least 3 nights a week and I have yet to see a customer inside. The short answer is no. The only reason I metioned Cat's and EZY, a ladyboy bar on Soi BJ off Walking Street, is that I cut and pasted and old post I made on a ladyboy forum for Samurai. I also walk by Cat's a quite a bit since the Day/Night area is easy uncongested walking and yes it often appears to me as if there are no customers. Cat's has done a poor job promoting themselves. All it takes is an occasional post on the forums but it seems so many barowners miss the boat on this one. It's especially important if you're off the beaten track and for many Day/Night qualifies as such. The room you look into is a small bar area but the other room is a gogo. All drinks are 90 baht, quite reasonable for a gogo. So if you're curious why not drop in? Since it's often empty, if you bring a small group, there's a private party feel to the place. One night six of us went and had a blast. But it's not one of my regular hangouts. If I was well to do, I'd "support" the place because Cat and her Swiss boyfriend are really good folk. But my entertainment budget is limited so liking the owner is not reason enough to be a regular. Quote
