TotallyOz Posted June 19, 2022 Author Posted June 19, 2022 I liked Conrad Ricamora from How to Get Away with Murder fame. And, of course, the diva herself, Margaret Chou. Pete1111 1 Quote

Guest Posted June 20, 2022 Posted June 20, 2022 I saw the movie & liked it. Fire Island is beautiful and no place else like it in the world. For once, there was on somewhat honest portrayal of drug scene in the Pines. Drug use is way more widespread and pervasive tho. Not exactly a fun crowd on the third day of their binge. Not everyone of course - but enough to give a distinct energy that isn’t idyllic. Quote
Members RockHardNYC Posted June 21, 2022 Members Posted June 21, 2022 As with many "gay" movies, I found this one dreadful. Insufferably bad. Now I realize that I'm no ordinary homo. I may be an elitist with high-brow taste, but I can also enjoy camp and silliness, if it's well done and makes me laugh out loud. This movie is nothing but stereotype cliche, an insult to Asian gays, and bad acting. The script stinks, too. The premise - finding love or a good fuck between rich and poor on Fire Island - is absolutely unoriginal and uninspired. The creators like to equate this effort as a gay Pride and Prejudice, and that just makes me want to VOMIT. There aren't many great film representations of Fire Island so I was curious to see how they managed the camera work. I had my fingers crossed and hoped for the best. I couldn't wait for the film to be over. There isn't one character I enjoyed. Not one character I would like to share a drink with. This drug/sex theme on Fire Island is SO TIRED. So 1980's porn. How anyone who survived AIDS can stomach this painful banality is beyond me. I've written quite a bit about my life on Fire Island over at the other place. When you live and visit a house that is not drug or sex motivated, the experience is otherworldly. I long for someone new and talented to create that side of Fire Island. This was not it. joizy and TotallyOz 2 Quote

I think you need to watch it just a few more times to completely understand all the nuances. Quote

I'd rather be waterboarded with a splintered stick up my ass. Joel Kim Booster seems to be enjoying his "flavor of the month" moment, but even he was dreadfully over-plucked. He must have a gay agent who lives in West Hollywood. Bowen Yang does not have a face for movies. It's a face that's begging for a sledge-hammer. The tension in his mouth is impossible to watch in close-ups. How he got cast as a "love" interest is beyond me. And if I see one more actor with sand-blasted WHITE teeth, I may actually buy a sledgehammer and stalk the snow white tooth fairies. TotallyOz 1 Quote

You are far too kind...the producer and director and actors starring in this monstrosity should hang themselves in shame. Quote
