How do you identify money boys on dating apps?

Recommended Posts

I’ve seen lots of post saying using dating apps to find money boys, but how do you identify if someone is a money boy without asking in an awkward straightforward way? Do money boys use any code in their profiles to hint that? Thanks

What's wrong with asking in a straightforward way?  There is nothing awkward about it.  There is no code.  I almost always simply ask, "Are you money boy?"  I have never been lied to about it and the boys don't mind at all.  When a boy tells me yes, he is a money boy, if I am interested in him I make my offer and take it from there.

If a boy resents me asking, fine - I'll move right to the next boy.

That actually makes sense and I will try that. I just feel like some people would feel offended being asked in that way. Thanks a lot!

Virtually 100% of the time if a guy has a selfie in an elevator flexing his muscles in an elevator mirror he's in the trade. Escorts spend much more time than most other people in hotel elevators and on the way up they're cleaned, groomed, and dressed nice. They see themselves in mirrored elevators as top-form. Few other people take pics in elevator mirrors while there's few escort ads that don't have an elevator selfie. Anyway it works 90% for me.

Usually a simple "escort?" will not be an immense insult. Usually. I would not ask in person though.

MB letters, dollar or baht sign, desired age 18-80 or even 18-99 are signs that he is MB indeed.

I agree with Gaybutton, nothing awkward to ask straight away, if they may be offended , usually profile says ' not MB' or something to that effect.

Don't be shy to ask as some profiles of bona fide escorts  don't give any hint

Vinapu identified the most reliable signs.   In Thailand, I think photos of them wearing just underwear are also an encouraging sign.

I definitely DON'T ask if they are a money boy, as that could cause offence.   Although, in the case of Pattaya, money boys are so common, that they must be used to getting asked.

I introduce myself with something like "Hello.   How are you today ?"    As my profile contains my age and a photo, if a much younger lad replies to me, he's probably a money boy.    Some say so immediately.   I may chat for a while, or if impatient might ask "What are you looking for here ?".

Another way is to fake your location to where the bars are, during opening hours.   If a lad is in a gogo bar during opening hours, he's probably a money boy.  However, this only captures a very small percentage of them.

Also, keep your eyes open in the bars.    Lads out drinking with other known money boys are probably in the same profession themselves and may be on the apps.

My experience was the same as vinapu's. If someone young  was interested in a guy of my age, he was a mb. Yes, yes, I know that miracles do happen in saunas- or used to- but if memory serves,  I found that Pattaya's Romeo twinks expected to be paid without my needing to ask.

I'm glad to hear that as my experience with apps is minuscule - 3 trials and none particularly memorable  but I comb them for fun from time to time and noticed some familiar faces I met using other means i.e introduction or met them in bar.

None of those actually identifies himself as MB in profile  so we need to look for other signs , ask straight or use approach Londoner mentioned - if guy is interested in guy of my age he must be in for the money or have really weird sense of humor

This is my first post under a new name having had problems with "Londoner" not being able to post for some reason.

I think everyone had that problem yesterday afternoon and evening.    I couldn't post either and no one else was posting.

In Brasil - they use 🅱️ In the profile name, which is searchable & definitely means money boy.  I see lots of C/L too, which I think technically means they have a place, but appears to be money boys too.  I’ve found if searching for CM (centimeters), you will find them as well.

I can only tell you I have been using the apps for years and have communicated with a lot of boys.  Whenever I am not sure whether he is or is not a money boy I ask.  I have never had a boy offended by it.  They simply answer - and they answer honestly.

I am actually more wary of boys who say they are not money boys.  The following kinda-sorta explains why:

Many years ago on a Sunday morning my family was eating breakfast when the telephone rang.  My father answered.  He listened patiently to whoever was talking to him.  Finally my father said, "Sorry, I can't afford a free vacation" and that ended the phone call.

Funny how in Thailand "Money Boy?" is used and is highly offensive while in Czech a polite "Masseur?" or even a very polite "Escort?" is rarely too offensive.

I'm thinking 9 times out of 10 it's the guy who is timid about asking for money for sex and is relieved if someone breaks the ice on the $ subject first. But politely.

In Medellin guys on Grindr post "Prepaygo" over their photo (technically a prepaid cellphone card).

In the US the polite euphemism has become "masseur?" while many guys online swear they're just "fitness trainers".

Pattaya does have an abnormally high number of money boys, so I expect they are used to it.      It's really not complicated.

Also, obviously no one should start the conversation with "Are you a money boy ?"

Start with some basic pleasantries.

If anyone on this forum chat with the guys in the pictures above, and think you can hookup with them for free...keep dreaming.

Fortunately, I wouldn't want to hook up with any of them for free.    I will not be alone with this view.

I usually go straight to the point "Are you money boy?" especially when the boy has a lot of underwear pictures.

If the boy "seen" but did not respond, or responds with something cryptic, like a period "." or a question mark "?", I rephrase my question to "Do you want sex for money?" and many times they say "yes".

I like how you are so direct ! Maybe i should try that instead of beating around the bush !

P doesn't consider the term "money-boy" offensive. For the only time in our eighteen years of eating out and travelling together, P told me one evening that he'd just been insulted by a group of young guys- Thais- in Pattaya's Central mall. He was livid. Very unusual.

He wouldn't tell me what they'd said but I assumed that it was a word associated with prostitution.

"Money-boy and bar -boy OK," he said "but not...."  and here he quoted the Thai word he'd just heard.
