Curious what happened to the Russian invasion thread?

How many Americans remember the GOP dropped their objection to Russia invading Crimea when Trump won the nomination?  Probably most.

How many Americans forgot how Trump held up sending arms to Ukraine?  Sadly, probably most.

Well, Putin IS a war criminal. I understand abuses by soldiers on both sides, but policy is what makes a war criminal. You cannot defend Putin's systematic bombardment of civilian targets.

You are right on pointing out to USA hypocrisy and double standards, but Putting is indefensible.

War crimes is intentionally targeting civilians to commit genocide or cause mass hysteria, famine etc. I don't think Putin's after the white race or using a fraction of Russia's power to kill civilians. (Unlike Americans in our genocidal wars against what we consider inferior races.)  And the Nazi Azov Battalion has been executing prisoners in Donbas with Zelinsky's and America's support plus killing 14,000 civilians there for over eight years. (Zelinsky and the Azov are both financed by the same billionaire oligarch who controls Mariupol). The Azov is trapped in Mariupol today and as many civilians as can have escaped them and fled to safety (90% over the border to Russia, btw). The Azov are proud war criminals. Biden is too.

Biden's Record as Senate Foreign Relations Chair and VP:

Killed 1 MILLION civilians in Iraq

Killed Half Million civilians in Afghanistan

Killed 200,000 civilians in Libya. Slave markets to sell Blacks re-established.

Killed 200,000 civilians in Syria, 200,000 in Yemen and ......

14,000 in Donbas.

(claims he didn't support Libya)

Putin:

Snake Island massacre: PR firm lie.

Ghost of Kyiv: PR firm lie.

Mariupol Theater: Staged by Nazi Azov Battalion and PR Firm lie.

No sympathy for Putin (he was Clinton's friend) but Biden is an indefensible world-class war criminal. Putin's a rank amateur in the bloody hands department. And now Biden/Clinton want WW3.

And more proudly Azov-labeled video of POW's (Russians and Donbas fighters) being executed in front of their graves for the pro-Ukrainians to masturbate to. This has been going on there for over 8 years with Ukraine and US support. The western world is whining because the Nazi Azov is surrounded in Mariupol and desperate now.

Not what CNN/Fox/BBC/NBC/WaPo tell you? How amazing.

I share your disgust for Biden and USA foreign policy, but you definitely are Putin's bitch.

I've made it clear I can't stand Putin any more than I can stand our regime-changing thugs. Putin is as much a capitalist crook and anti-free speech as my US government. He was put in by the US originally to promote capitalism by selling off Russia to billionaires.

I  don't have to be the US's bitch when it comes to regime change wars that kill so many people needlessly. The net result of the Ukraine/Russia war will probably be an autonomous Donbas which Ukraine agreed to 8 years ago in the EU-written Minsk treaties it signed but refused to comply with. The 14,000 dead in Donbas since then and all the death and destruction of this war were wasted and useless except for the west trying to bring regime change. It's only worth it to the military corporations that run America. I'm sure Secretary of Defense Austin will get a huge bonus for this war when he returns to Raytheon and his stock in it is skyrocketing anyway.

Circling back to this thread & reread my post on 3/5.

Russia looks even more incompetent now than 6-weeks ago.  This war has been a disaster for them and most likely will lead to ouster of Putin (it may have already happened) and the collapse of the regime.  To date, an estimated 20,000 Russian soldiers dead, thousands of tanks blown up, they can’t secure Ukrainian airspace & their flagship battle cruiser “Moskva” sunk by Ukraine.

the problem is here is two-fold

1. Every sector of Russian society is corrupted to the point where it does not function. The oligarchs and mafia has stolen almost everything from everyone.  In the case of the military - they stole everything there too, thus nothing is maintained or supplied.  The vehicles for the invasion got stuck in the mud due to no maintenance and the troops ran out of food after just a few days as just two examples.  When was the last time you bought anything made in Russia ??

2. Putin was misled about all aspects of this war and how quickly it would end.  All the top advisors were/are afraid to tell him the truth about the pathetic condition of Russian military and their capabilities. This, along with faulty intelligence about Ukrainian resistance & that the Russians would be greeted as “liberators” doomed this operation from the start.

Now, the Russian military is seen for what it is - incompetent, corrupt, poorly equipped and strategies stuck in old Soviet bureaucratic system that renders them incapable of altering plans that have already failed. Oh yeah, at least 7 top generals have been killed in action which would never happen in a NATO/US command structure.

There is absolutely no reason to think their nuclear weapons would be any different from the rest of the Russian military. The vast majority won’t work & haven’t been maintained. On the chance that some of the actually do work, their use will guarantee a swift response from NATO countries where all the weapons do work & that’s the end of Russia. And they know this.  And we’d probably shoot down the ICBMs.

Last night, I watched 2 episodes of Netflix “Last Czars” - in episode 2 Czar Nicholas was facing an attack from Japan and the commentary was about how badly he overestimated Russias capabilities, the faulty intelligence and the catastrophic blunder to engage Japan in all out war.  You could have replaced every comment about the Czar with Putin and it would be accurate today.

Russia has a long history of quickly deposing its leaders that lose wars. So, expect the same for Putin and hopefully we will see a free Russia in the next few years.

And, no - Russia is not a superpower by any stretch of the imagination. Their beleaguered economy was the size of New York State pre-Ukraine with a an overextended/corrupt military that was simply an illusion.  Yes, there are the nukes - but, Pakistan, North Korea & Israel have them too and they are hardly superpowers. A more accurate description of Russia is a third world kleptocracy/dictatorship with oil/gas and some faulty nuclear weapons. The things they are very good at are spreading disinformation, propaganda, false flag operations and buying off corrupt western politicians - in short, using the freedoms in western democracies against them to divide & sow division from within.

if you still have any doubts - google the illustrious history of the sole Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov. Today it sits in drydock and when it actually makes it out to sea, it has to be accompanied by tugboats to ensure it gets from point A to point B.  Yes, the Russians are that incompetent.  It’s because of the systemic corruption where everyone steals and nothing actually works.  This will not change until the regime is gone and Russia rebuilds as a free democracy.

Hopefully this "War Fever" will break before there's nothing left of Ukraine. Maybe Dr. Brenner's discussion and reasoning will help in that direction.

https://scheerpost.com/2022/04/15/michael-brenner-american-dissent-on-ukraine-is-dying-in-darkness/

In an email with the subject line “Quittin’ Time,” Brenner recently declared that, aside from having already said his piece on Ukraine, one of the main reasons he sees for giving up on expressing his opinions on the subject is that “it is manifestly obvious that our society is not capable of conducting an honest, logical, reasonably informed discourse on matters of consequence. Instead, we experience fantasy, fabrication, fatuousness and fulmination.” He goes on to decry President Joe Biden’s alarming comments in Poland when he all but revealed that the U.S. is—and perhaps has always been—interested in a Russian regime change.

On this week’s “Scheer Intelligence,” Brenner tells host Robert Scheer how the recent attacks he received—many of a personal, ad hominem nature—were some of the most vitriolic he’s ever experienced. The two discuss how many media narratives completely leave out that the eastward expansion of NATO, among other Western aggressions against Russia, played an important part in fueling the current humanitarian crisis. Corporate media’s “cartoonish” depiction of Russian president Vladimir Putin, adds Brenner, is not only misleading, but dangerous given the nuclear brinkmanship that has ensued. Listen to the full discussion between Brenner and Scheer as they continue to dissent despite living in an America that is seemingly increasingly hostile to any opinion that strays from the official line.

A Russian man’s view of Putin's  propaganda.

For several years I have been watching a YouTuber called NFKRZ. It is run by a young Russian guy called Roman, who used to post videos about daily life in Russia, including politics culture etc.

With the outbreak of the war he, like a lot of other liberal minded Russians, has fled the country, in his case to Georgia.

This week, he posted an interesting video looking at some of the left-wing propaganda outlets to Russia controls, and is using to spread its line about the Ukraine war. It is quite commonly known that Russia pumps out a lot of propaganda on Facebook and the RT News channel, usually praising Putin as a proper conservative and aimed at FOX News watching types.

But they also control other, left-leaning websites, and that churn out propaganda that is meant to appeal to left wingers, usually focusing on perceived or real western hypocrisy.

I kind of knew this already, but it was interesting to see it from the perspective of an anti-Putin Russian person.

Watch below:

I have just been reading about the rape and murder of a one year old boy in Ukraine by Russian soldiers. The Russian army cannot sink any lower, this is genocide. Russia must be isolated from the civilised world for decades to come.

Modern regime change is typically not the result of war, but rather a collapse within a deeply corrupt system - like the USSR, Eastern Europe, Arab Spring, etc

Sometimes it takes a while, but eventually happens.  Russian regime change will happen more quickly than anyone thinks.

Sanctions are just starting to take hold and shortly the planes will stop flying, elevators will stop working and electronic equipment will all shut down due lack of parts.  Outside of energy exports, the Russian economy is simply an assembly plant for western parts which are no longer available.  It’s done & over - bleeding out to a prolonged death.
