La Royale Condo workers protest

Recommended Posts

According to Pattaya Daily News, workers from La Royale have not been paid for 6 months and so they stopped working and blocked streets in protest. This project is charging 76 baht per square meter.

I bring this up asking if this is a beginning(or continuation) of what might be in store for other of these big projects in Pattaya and Jomtien. Or is this just an example of a very rich Chinese investor (owner) taking advantage of of the poor Thai workers?

I imagine 76 baht per square meter is wrongly quoted. I am sure the best advice is do not buy a condo unless it is already built at this time.

The article says: "There are 150 units selling at Bt76,000 per sq.m."

In any case, the way things seem to happen here all too often, I agree with you. I would not make down payment or any other kind of payment on a condo, planned or still under construction, unless the construction company is well established, has an excellent reputation, is financially solvent, and can prove it. Even then I would still be a bit nervous.

Given the history of half-completed projects littering Bangkok and Pattaya following the 97 crisis, only recently completed, I share your assessment.

There are plenty of new, completed condos available, many at reduced rates to choose from.

No need to gamble on future construction.

Speaking of new construction, whatever happened to Ocean One? It does not look like there is much action at that site.

I have heard the construction was stopped because of the economic climate world wide. Even in rich Dubai the planned world's tallest building has been suspended.
