Gov't clarifies new rules for approved "Test and go" pass holders

The government has clarified the position of about 200,000 intending visitors who earlier received permission to enter the country without quarantine via the now-suspended Test & Go programme.

Sumanee Wacharasin, hazard communication director of the Department of Disease Control, said on Wednesday that although the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) suspended registration for Test & Go from Wednesday, people previously approved would still be allowed in.

The visitors could travel the country if their first RT-PCR test upon arival returned negative.

However, hotel managements must ensure the visitors stayed in their overnight rooms until their test result was known.

In addition, the visitors and their places of accommodation would be tracked around the clock via the MorChana app.

Missing Covid-infected tourist surrenders on Koh Samui

An Israeli tourist who sparked a manhunt by leaving his Bangkok hotel without waiting for his Covid-19 test result, which proved positive, surrendered to police on Koh Samui on Wednesday afternoon.

He initially headed to Pattaya, but later went south to the holiday island.

Ohad Baruch, 29, turned himself in shortly after noon.

After talks, he was taken to Koh Samui Hospital by ambulance for Covid-19 testing. Health volunteers escorted him.

They should jail him for a few months and then deport him, with a ban on returning to Thailand.

Whatever systems Thailand puts in place function because people agree to follow them and mostly honour that agreement.  In future, I don't want to quarantine with armed guards because of idiots like this.  So an appropriate deterrent is needed to discourage serious rule breaking.

According to the new rules, the cost of two PCR tests will be added to the cost of the 7-day Sandbox quarantine.

In news that I'm sure is a totally unrelated, the current Health Minister says he hopes to be a candidate for prime minster.

Whilst I believe that is correct for the sandbox, apparently the Thai government is responsible for the cost of the additional PCR test for those who got the pass for test and go before the deadline.

I believe that it is correct for the test and go, as stated in the link (above) you posted about the new rules.

As usual, I read the Bangkok Post whilst having a coffee and croissant.

If I'm interpreting the figures correctly, about 75% of Thai Omicron cases are already from non-travellers.  As ALL travellers get tested, whilst those already here have good incentives to avoid testing, the actual percentage of local Omicron infections is likely to be far higher.  So by the time the Test and Go suspension is reducing traveller numbers, it will have little effect on Omicron numbers.

I guess the number of tourists here will peak soon, as new arrivals will soon slow down due to suspension of test and go.

Meanwhile, UK data shows the risk of ending up in hospital with Omicron is significantly lower than with Delta.  Apparently that's data compiled for the same time period, so should be a good like for like comparison.

I still favour removing most restrictions.

Does someone know what the purpose of the expiry date of the Thailand pass is? I thought it can be used for more entries within expiry date, is that correct? So theoretically I could go to Thailand again because I still have a valid TP, even with the suspension now?

An important issue. At least for me. I have a flight for March 11th and Test and Go hotel for the 12th . Bluntly, I'm very pessimistic. However, were there a relaxation in the rules, the first thing I'd is to apply, hoping that even if the March12 date is lost, I could use it as soon as  (or if) the scheme is reintroduced.

The Thai Pass has a specified entry date and I believe it's valid for within 72 hours of that.

You need to show proof of a quarantine hotel booking to get the pass.

Obviously the hotel booking has a specific arrival date, so logically the pass can only be valid for a specific arrival period.

My intention is to apply for the Pass as soon as I am able to, even if it's eight or more weeks before entry. I have flights and bookings . This means that if the system were reintroduced and then suspended again, I'll already have the Pass.

No new Covid surge

There were 22 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,532 new cases registered during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry said on Sunday morning.

This compared with 30 coronavirus-related fatalities and 2,766 new cases reported on Saturday morning.

On Saturday, 3,771 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said in the afternoon briefing that almost half of the new deaths occurred in the southern region.

The 22 new fatalities were Thai nationals between the ages of 25 and 93, 10 of them in the southern region – three in Nakhon Si Thammarat, two in Satun and one each in Krabi, Chumphon, Trang, Ranong and Surat Thani.

Bangkok registered one fatality while none were detected in the city’s adjacent provinces.

The 2,532 new cases included 2,449 local infections and 60 imported cases.

Bangkok had 414 new cases, followed by 179 in Chon Buri, 144 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, 79 in Samut Prakan, 73 in Prachuap Khiri Khan, 66 in Chiang Mai, 60 in Surat Thani, 55 in Kalasin, 54 in Trang and 51 in Pathum Thani.
