Midguy1 Posted December 19, 2021 Posted December 19, 2021 I do think another consideration should be about the extremely low probability of potentially having to quarantine for longer than 24 hours in the hotel, based on current rules. I hadn't considered this when I booked, which in the end turned out to be fine, but will say that I wouldn't want to have been confined there for any longer than few hours I spent there. Next trip I'll be carefully considering whether I'd be happy to be confined in the hotel of choice if I struck unlucky and had to quarantine for 5/7/10/14 days or whatever the rules say. 18past19 and Ryanqqq 2 Quote

I thought if you tested positive as an international arrival you were carted off to hospital for quarantine, even if asymptomatic, not allowed to stay in your hotel? Quote

That's my understanding as well. I don't think the amenities in a hotel room will be a concern if you test positive. The Test & Go partner hospital will be anxious to extract as many baht as possible from the insurance policy you were required to purchase to enter the Kingdom. Quote

Yes I think that is correct, a positive test would mean a hospital stay. Quote

Hence I took considerable care to avoid infection before the trip and wore 3M FFP3 masks on the trip. Also I kept my air vent on. Even though we sign up to rules that say we are released if we pass the test, there have been reports from Richard Barrow and others saying that we can be forced to quarantine if sat near someone on the plane who fails a test. Hence I booked a window seat at the rear of the plane to improve the odds. However, I've not heard much about people getting caught by this. Also, if some people get their results in 5 hours and others are next day, I don't quite see how that would work. Quote

Although there are many opinions as to what happens if testing positive on arrival with no symptoms, (ASQ hotel, Hospital hotel [hospitel], Rest at home, etc) there is a detailed report on reddit that explains the chain of events. Here are a few excerpts from the report from a person who tested positive on arrival in Phuket. The original report is on Reddit.com: Quote Everything went super smooth for me up until the moment I got my results late last night local time, my results show 'Detected' which basically means 'Positive'. Currently, I've been told I have to wait in my hotel room and await further instruction. I have zero symptoms, feel absolutely fine, my PCR within the last 72 hours was negative. This makes no sense. UPDATE #2 I've found out that no matter what, if you test positive, you have to go to the hospital, there is no chance of ASQ after a positive covid test, if you test positive from an ASQ they'd send you there anyway. That's what it seems anyway. There are limited ASQ Hotels in Phuket anyway compared to other places, so it might be different in other regions of Thailand. UPDATE #3 - Day 1 - 30/11/21 I am safely settled in the hospital. It was a very weird experience. I was picked up by Ambulance, with barely a word said to me by the Ambulance staff, I sat down and was immediately having my blood pressure and heart rate monitored, they left both on me for the entire 30-minute ride to Bangkok Hospital Phuket. https://www.reddit.com/r/ThailandTourism/comments/r5dycp/testing_positive_for_covid19_on_arrivals_pcr_test/ reader, newscene, splinter1949 and 3 others 2 4 Quote
Popular Post 18past19 Posted December 24, 2021 Popular Post Posted December 24, 2021 Center Point Silom River View Touch down at 11:15 pm Airport pick up by a private nice sedan Check in around 12:30 am Swab test taken at 12:40 am Result became available around 2 pm US $150 for a spacious room with balcony, a kitchenette and even a washing machine inside the room. Food was pretty ok. All towels were brand new. I have never felt that clean inside any hotel room (even at those so called 5 stars) on the other side of the world. Everything was suspiciously clean and spotless. no AUNTS!!!!! Very well run, very well organized and nice - 5 Star from me. Highly recommended. I was also impressed by how well the whole process was run. i was swabbed and all set in my own hotel room within 90 minutes from the touch down. The fastest I have ever experienced. vaughn, vinapu, daydreamer and 2 others 4 1 Quote

On my December 2021 trip, i was swabbed immediately once the check in was done despite my pretty late arrival. it was around 12:30 - 1 am. everything was ready in anticipation (including check in paper, documents for my PCR test etc.) The airport pick up was with a benz and the driver in white gloves. The result came on the next day around 2:00 pm if i remember correctly. That package included 3 meals (though I ended up checking out once I got the result). This time, the airport pick up was by a very tired van with some serious injuries on its seats. i arrived at the hotel around 7:30 am, check in was a breeze, but i was told that i was going to be swabbed at 11:00 am (that would have been more than 3 hours after my check in). When I inquired, they said they had a fast track option for 2500 bhat. I am glad I chose it. the result came back within two hours. The package came with only one meal. nothing to complain about, but just some comparisons. vinapu, splinter1949 and reader 3 Quote

Result by approx 8:00 am next day. As you state, I see they are now offering just Breakfast in the package. With standard test timing, that's totally unsatisfactory if you happen to arrive in the hotel at lunchtime. What are you supposed to eat for lunch & dinner ? If I were booking now, I'd either insist on booking one of the hotels that is offering 3 meals (many on Agoda) OR I'd make sure they have a suitable fast track package. 2500 to be released within 2 hours seems like good value, but this does depend on what time of day that is. Getting an early result at (say) 24:00 doesn't add much value for me. Quote
18past19 Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 according to my experience during previous stay with them, it took almost 12-13 hours the result to come back. and i was afraid i wouldnt have been able to go out tonight if i were supposed to be swabbed at 11:00 am. the fast track option took only 2 hours.
