I read about the cancelation in yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle, and in the article-- the mayor of Rio de Janeiro had NOT made a decision regarding Carnaval 2022.  But since all of the special New Year's Eve events/activities are being canceled in Rio, Sao Paulo, and Salvador (Bahia), I'd assume there will not be a Carnaval 2022 since it's a very, very major and very huge affair that goes for a week+ and involving lots and lots and lots of folk.

I managed to take in Carnaval 2003 and truly enjoyed all of the festivities. Four events still remain with me today: Sambadroma (sp) event, a gay ball, the gay parade in Ipanema, and a trip to the Green Isle accompanied by 20 escorts and about 45 to 50 men enjoying ourselves on a boat for almost 5 hours.

When I returned to Rio from our all day boat trip-- I had company at my hotel.  One of the hugest guys on this trip came and entertained me royally for an hour+ prior to my going to the Gala Ball.

You realize it's almost 2022, so you're talking about something almost 2 decades ago 🤨

Yes, I'm quite, quite cognizant that within a few weeks, 2022 will be here.   I also find your comment unnecessary, for my first response here was relevant to the initial inquiry.  I answered the question.

What followed regarding CARNAVAL 2003 was my reminiscing about THAT TIME.

I May have said it, but many are thinking it. It's nice to "reminisce", but the question was about Carnaval 2022.

Many of your replies are regarding things that happened so long ago, some of the GP's weren't even born yet.

Maybe Oz can make a History channel board where we can all go back and talk about the old times in Brasil, Mexico, Thailand, etc....

Imma add some old timey stuff. AFAIK the fireworks are a go but I think public transportation such as Metro is closed so as not to facilitate crowds heading to Copacabana. So if you are there and not on location, but perhaps viewing on telly, here’s a bit of history, though there may be better sources. It just showed up in my social media feed.
