Super Bowl as seen in Pattaya

I was up early to watch the Super Bowl this morning. I am happy they show these events, but wish they would allow the commercials to be seen. One of the fun things for some of us is the great commercials.

I had read that there would be a segment in 3D. So I had a friend from the USA send me a pair of 3D glasses.......at a $41 FedEx fee. Anyway, it was all for nothing as they did not show it here on Thai True sport 4>

By the way after I received the 3D glasses I found out that it is very easy to make your own 3D glasses. Just get some clear soft plastic and a blue and red markers. Some web sites even give you a template to cut the glasses out.

I was not able to see the show. I read that it was a good game. Too bad you were not able to use your glasses. Do they insert Thai commercials in place of the US ones?

I watch the Superbowl on True, and fully understand why people around the world..except in the US..don't like American football. This was a good game, and went down to the wire...but it is so slow waiting for the US to show all the commercials. If you see the game in the US, it is an entirely different pace, and the announcers add a great deal to the game. But here, it is so slow that it doesn't keep you attention. Oh well, it was good anyway.

This about the super bowel comercials:

NEW YORK (AP)—Along with the usual punchlines, cartoonish violence and car chases, the real world of a depressed economy slipped into the showcase of Super Bowl commercials.

In a Bud Light commercial, employees sat around a conference table while their exasperated boss wondered what they could do to make their budget.

“We could cut back on marketing,” one person said.

“We could eliminate bonuses,” said another, a line more timely than even Anheuser-Busch could have foreseen.

“How about if we stop buying Bud Light for every meeting?” one employee wondered, an act of betrayal that got him tossed out the boardroom window.

An excellent game!

One of the best Super Bowls in my recent memory, won in the last few seconds with a spectacular catch in the end-zone.

Some of the commercials were really cute and well done, however there were some duds as well.

The 3-D segment did not come off very well. We had glasses and the 3-D effects were dark and failed to convince any of us that it was anything different from regular tv.

Even though, without the actual commercials, the game may have seemed slow, it was still a toss-up until the very last. I felt a little badly for Arizona since it has taken them so long to get to the "big party" but they have nothing to be ashamed of, they played well.

Hope it will be as much fun when I get to watch future games in LOS.

I am guessing Jason105 was not in Thailand so would like to ask if you (Jason105) were watching on a digital High Def TV or analogue?

I now have a VPN connection here in Pattaya and hope I can watch some 3D shows which will be shown on ABC.............I think those feeds must be digital.

In Bali, the bar where was at had an ESPN feed so not the commercials one would see in the States.

As far as I know, there were no gay bars in either Bali or Pattaya that bothered to open for the game.

I thought Harrison's 100 yard interception return was awesome. Have you ever seen a player with a jersey in the 90's do that? All those windsprints paid off.

Great game!

Super bowl commercials are about the only commercials I miss from the states. At least the best or most controversial of them will be replayed ad nauseum on news shows for the next couple of days.

Only got to see those last 3minutes. Must have been quite sad to be rooting for those hapless Cards.

No commercials are seen here . When there is a commercial break, the screen freezes where the game was stopped and you get to watch nothing but a frozen screen of immobile football players. We did get to see Bruce Springsteen's half-time show. But otherwise, at half-time they switced to 3 Thai commentators who provided commentary and a summary of the first half of the game.

On TRUE (UBC) tv we saw no commercials, but did see the players and field during the commercial times...whatever NBC was sending out on the feed from the stadium. It reminded me of many years ago...late 80's..when I had a satillite dish in the US, and you got the direct feed from the field to the network centers...you saw the stadium durig the commercials...but in that case you continued to hear the commentators..and some of their talk was interesting to say the least. There was no talk on this, and the only one you heard from the field was the referee when he explained a penalty.

Yes, I watched the game on UBC Satellite - True 4 and saw the same screen freeze. But 2 weeks before I watched an NFL playoff game on the same channel and they had a camera in the announcer's booth and you could watch and hear announcers Joe Buck and Troy Aikman when they assumed they were off camera during commercial breaks. You could see them straightening out their ties, combing their hair and making themselves presentable before going back on the air.

I have watched games where the off camera chat went something like....

"Jesus, you really missed that last play!"

"Well, I was distracted by something on the other side of the field"

"I covered it, no problem. Where you going for dinner tonight?"

It can be more entertaining than the game at times.

You are right. Much to my dismay, I was still here in the US.

I was watching on digital High Def but it didn't seem to help the 3-D.
